The only subscription options are for sign up or to put delivery on hold. If you choose "account" or "other", you are asked if you want to hold or receive a call back. They make it incredibly difficult to cancel your subscription. It honestly felt like a scam as you jump through loopholes online to figure out how to unsubscribe. Once you finally find it, you get vague instructions to "call customer service" to cancel. Then you have to find that number on a different webpage yourself just to jump through loopholes on the phone until you finally can speak with someone at a call center who sounds like they are just reading off a script - trying to get you to stay. After they said they canceled my subscription there was no confirmation email. No assurance whatsoever. So honestly I am going to have to watch my bank statements for a while to see if they charge me again. read more

I agree with all the 1-star reviews that discuss the F-ING IMPOSSIBLE process to cancel a subscription. It is absolutely F-ING INSANE. I too will have to dispute charges with my bank because repeated phone conversations with phone banks far far away have failed to get the subscription canceled even though the "agents" - whom I could barely understand, or sometimes couldn't understand at all - assured me I was canceled. These people tried to argue with me to get the subscription extended. It's unbelievable how much time I've spent dicking around with these people. I cancelled my digital subscription via the customer service call. They continue to bill $21.99 (2months and counting). Since customer service didn't work, I tried to cancel online and ask for a refund. I get redirected to the Customer Service number. I haven't used the service since cancellation. I'd like to randomly bill the Register for $21.99/month until I get a refund, but alas, no way to do that. I expect they will continue billing me until I put a hold on the card. Their customer service is non-existent, and the CS call center closes at 3pm, so you have to call early in the morning and hang on hold while getting cut off. Good times. We cancelled our subscription when the annual subscription cost increased to over $600/year! Unfortunately, we had subscribed using "auto-pay" hooked up with our joint checking account. After our subscription cancellation, papers continued to be delivered. Finally, it was necessary for us to place a stop payment on our checking account. In addition, we sent a "certified mail" letter to the Register to formally document our subscription cancellation. At that time, their office was NOT OPEN to the public (a very bad sign for any local business). I've never seen a newspaper that is more thin-skinned when it comes to any criticism from its readers. Like many newspapers with an online version, they used to allow readers to comment on stories, but they have eliminated that. Now they only let us click on a set of five emoticons/emojis like we are children. Once they published a story about a group of people who had posted a challenge to the new Downtown Civic Center on Facebook. The new Civic Center plan has been a very controversial and resulted in a pretty dramatic upset in the 2018 election for City Council. I found it odd (and politically suspect) that they waited over one month to run the story. Since they insulate themselves from their readers, I posted on their Facebook page and asked them why. I immediately got "Likes" on my comment from other readers, so of course, they deleted my post. I posted "Seriously, Register? Free Speech Much?" They deleted that post and then permanently blocked my ability to comment on their Facebook page. I've been told by a few friends that letters to the editor are never published if they criticise this "newspaper" in any way. What a bunch of babies. Why is it that local North Bay newspapers like: the Press Democrat, the Marin I.J. and even the Sonoma Index-Tribune are capable of allowing readers to post comments and encourage a dialog with their readers, but the Register cannot? I used to pay for a digital subscription but my credit card expired and I tried to call to fix it. The listed a toll free number with "business hours" of 5:30am to 3pm, so who knows where they outsourced that department. I tried to call anyone at their office using their local number, but their voice response system gives very limited choices and I either got voice mail, or it hung up on me. This the Worst customer service I have ever experienced. First, their software charged me double, then it took 5 months to receive a refund. Thus, I now refuse to pay online. There was no hard copy of my current bill sent and I had to request one which I was told will take 3-4 weeks to receive. My subscription will run out during that time..Simply amazing. read more

Shady company. All these reviews are accurate. I guess since no one buys papers anymore, they are in the business of scamming people. First, they charge you a $10.00 paper statement fee, and 3% interest on late payments. I understand the late payment fee, but $10 bucks to send a bill is ridiculous. Second, I payed my bill numerous times, once over the phone, which they claimed never happened, and twice through the mail. They finally claimed they received my payment, months after the check was issued, all while charging me the $10.00 fee, and 3% interests. I ended up paying a few hundred dollars for a legal announcement. Don't bother calling. They either send you on this endless loop, or hang up on you. I am a local business owner here in the valley, we have been here for decades now. This is one of the most unethical businesses I've had the misfortune of doing business with. The unfortunate thing about this paper is that most of their wine and food industry writers, which should be the most educated, most engaging, and most critical in the world are none of these. They only write glowing pieces so they can continue to be invited to every wine event in Napa and fail to really evaluate. Style of writing? I think lacking. The paper also "covers" certain news relating to wine events with people who are not really qualified to explain what is happening to the readers. Here we sit in the middle of the finest wine producing region in the world surrounded by world class dining, and this paper cannot figure a way to be relevant - leaving the San Francisco Chronicle and Santa Rosa Press Democrat to win accolades. The people of this Valley should speak up and ask for editorial and news leadership. Queen of the Valley's Cancer Center has a staff who are professional, caring and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. My 90 year old mother has been receiving radiation treatments for 3 weeks. The quality of service is exceptional thanks to the commitment of their staff at all levels. Each staff member goes above and beyond to provide quality services and care each visit. I was overwhelmed and they helped me navigate the process, kept us informed, and even assisted with referrals to Molly's Angels. Molly's Angels is a fantastic non-profit that assists with transportation to medical appointments. I was so overwhelmed and did not know how I was going to get my mom to her radiation treatments, as I live nearly 2 hours away. Molly's Angels has helped take my mom to and from her appointments on the days I am working. They are so kind and friendly that you automatically trust them, and they have always come through for us. Each volunteer has been so kind and comforting to my mom. Nicole is an amazing woman who reached out immediately to help and let us know we were not alone! I felt my stress level go down immediately. The Napa Register not only charges to much for there advertising which is to expensive for new businesses. But now it wants you to pay to read it over the internet. Hi, I just cannot understand how bad the service of the newspaper is. I subscribed for the 3-day full access on Feb 13, 2018 paying $100.83 +tax. I never received a single issue despite three calls. I finally asked for refund. Instead of full refund, I only received $62.30. I was told on phone that I will get full refund. I need full refund. If not compensating extra for poor service, you are deducting amount. How is it justified? I need to receive full refund immediately. read more

This is a "small town" newspaper concentrating on local flavor and events peculiar to the city of Napa as well as information re: the rest of the valley. If you are interested in wine, food, entertainment, and culture in Napa, this is the place to look. There is some effort to touch on national and international news. Letters to the editor range from mundane to esoteric. The guest editorials are excellent. I think both the right and the left get their say. We have subscribed to the Register for over ten years and look forward to each issue. read more

The Napa Valley Register was essential to me when I lived in Napa, because they were the only source of information about serious local issues and elections. Their pre-local-election editorials (following interviews with candidates) were even-handed, nuanced, and enormously helpful. I admire their objective coverage of the most serious and contentious Napa Valley issues (wineries, development, housing, taxes, and the environment for a start. Sure, no reporter is perfect, and sure, they do happy articles about individual businesses and locals in the valley, but every newspaper does that sort of harmless boosterism. The editor, Sean Scully, does a fine job with what appears to be an impossible budget and an impossibly small staff. If the Napa Valley Register ever closed, or went in the direction of the pointless Patch, there would be absolutely no source that I know of of community news. The NVR is in my view an essential community resource, and I am especially aware of this now that I live in a big city with multiple media. read more
