Going through box after box of "stuff" accumulated over the years we spotted a toy that we usually display. Opening the battery compartment I was dismayed to see batteries from "I don't know when" still installed. Needless to say, not only they were dead but there was that white crusty gunk on the contacts. Out to the garage I grabbed my trusty can of contact cleaner and found that it was as dry as those batteries. Rather than disappoint our granddaughter with a lifeless Santa, I drove the single mile to our neighborhood NAPA store. While I did learn that my original cans price tag promised many years of inflation, the replacement was still affordable. Back home I sprayed and rubbed the connections, installed new batteries, and Santa came to life! Storing the new can of contact cleaner next to a nine year old tube of dielectric grease, I thanked my lucky stars that reasonably priced help was right around the corner. It is really nice having support for stuff you rarely use handy for that unexpected emergency when it hits.

There was a promotion for 20% off when you ordered online and picked up in the store so I took advantage of that. I picked up the parts a few days later and the Assistant Manager Josie was friendly and gathered my parts quickly for me. She also helped me carry the parts to my car. This is about what I understand is NAPA policy concerning batteries…read more I bought a NAPA vehicle battery in Minnesota in November of 2017. Battery was determined to be defective by NAPA in Kansas City December 2018. NAPA in KC wants a new battery price for a replacement battery offering no credit for the defective battery at 13 months. I was told by assistant store manager I needed the purchase receipt to get any credit against defective battery. No matter if this is correct that I need the damn receipt or not I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER BATTERY FROM NAPA IN MY LIFE! You shouldn't either! I have had other brand defective batteries and have never needed the receipt to get any credit when the defective battery is prorated against a new battery. It has not mattered whether I returned the battery to the same store I originally bought defective battery or not. Bad policy NAPA!

I was driving my family around in the van when I hear a chirping sound under the hood, then my A/C…read moregoes out, and my battery light goes on. It's 95 degrees outside. In my best Scottish accent I yelled, "Great! That's just great!" I pulled in to O'Reilly's on Marshall drive (just off I-35) . The first guy tests the battery, and says it's indeed low. I asked for prices on a new one, but he pointed out that my current battery was under warranty from the place I bought it, so I should take it back. This alone is worth some stars because it saved $80, and was honest, but it gets better. Meanwhile, I looked down and saw my serpentine belt was broken in two! That's not good, and explains the rest of the problems with the AC and battery. To have the van towed and have even a cheap mechanic replace this would be $300 MINIMUM, and likely more. I bought a belt there for $12, and another O'Reilly guy helped me replace it. He looked up the diagram (it wasn't under the hood like usual) and loaned me the tools. Within 45 minutes or less, I was back on the road and all is good. So what could have been a day or two without the van and $380+, turned into $12 (plus what I tipped the guy on the side) in under an hour. If I need any auto parts or advice, there's only one place I'm going henceforth!
