Oh boy, here we go, the second place I've eaten at in the Reading terminal market that is well less then par. So I'm a big fan of Indian food so i decided oh look lets try here. I got the Korma Platter (Chicken) with black eyed pees and rice. The first thing i noticed is that the chicken was dry. The sauce it was in was reasonable. I hoped the second bite wouldn't let me down and it did. I don't care how much sauce you out on, your chicken was still dry. The restaurant owner is arguably the most inconsiderate person I have interacted with at Reading Terminal since moving here 2.5 years ago and going dozens of times to the market. For starters, he charges way too much for his food ($16.71 for the plate in the picture) but that isn't what led me here. He lacks decency. He gave me a salad container that was practically quarter filled only (how it looks in the picture is how I got it), and didn't even explain if he ran out or what the reason was. He just covered the container and handed it to me. I then sat at the place's counter top that has a few high chairs to sit at. He decided he wants to clean the area so he does so while I'm eating and pretty much works around me while giving me "are you done with your food" looks. Instead of taking my plate and throwing it away in the trash right behind the counter he points me to a trash in the corner away from the restaurant to throw my plate away in. I would give 0 stars if I could. He just lost a customer :) read more

I ordered the chicken kabob plate, and I have to admit I was a bit surprised. The chicken was actually more like chicken pieces, not cube-shaped as you would find on a kabob. It wasn't too bad, as long as you have some red sauce poured over the chicken. Without the sauce, the chicken would be too dry. The sauce was mild (not spicy), and it was decent. I also had the spinach, and it was delicious. The food also didn't make my tummy upset, which is always a plus. I do not recommend the samosa, hence the three stars. Instead of being your typical triangular samosa, it is more like a pastried handkerchief with the filling in the middle, which is quite strange. In other words, the filling can be clearly seen, as opposed to having an enclosed samosa. I ordered some kind of ground meat filling (can't remember or discern), which looked like the color of vomit. The meat was tasteless and dry. The pastry itself was not crispy, but more on the soggy side. I threw away the majority of the samosa after eating the sides of the pastry. Lessons learned! read more

As the first Indian food I located in Philadelphia, Nanee's Kitchen was the natural choice for lunch. The long line showed it to be a popular eating place, and for the price, it was pretty decent. The menu was quite complicated, as each part of the meal was a separate cost. An easier way to organize the menu would be to set up various meal options of specific prices, instead of making the individual diner figure everything out. I know that I might have ordered more had I known what it would cost all at once, instead of having to add up every item individually. I ordered a small size of chickpea curry over rice and a potato samosa. The chickpeas and rice were hot and flavorful, and though small, the perfect amount of food. It was maybe not the most excellent chickpea curry on rice, but it was satisfactory, and not too spicy. The samosa had good flavor; however, I should have eaten it immediately instead of waiting for several hours, as it was slightly soggy and not warm. If I ever find myself in the area and craving Indian food, I will probably make my way back to Nanee's Kitchen. read more

As most reviews have stated, the food at this place lacks serious flavor (which I didn't even know was possible for an Indian restaurant). I got the butter chicken and some of the tandoori chicken and they were both extremely bland. I also got the collard greens and the server mentioned that they were spicy which sounded great but when I had a bite, there was nothing there. Like nothing. First, you have to deal with the Reading Terminal Market on a weekend. It was beyond capacity and impossible to move. This becomes a huge put off as you try to find a place to eat. Had I known what I was to experience in eating, I would have avoided the cattle crowd and eaten at the Panera nearby. I had what was supposed to be Coconut Chicken Curry and Garlic Naan. Apart from having to dissuade line jumpers, I had difficulty with gentleman serving me as he had difficulty hearing or understanding what I wanted. Now to the meal. Tasteless. Along with the surprise that I was eating a tasteless meal that was supposed to be a curry, I wanted to throw the meal away but was left with the fact that I struggled to walk inside this place and spent fifteen minutes in line with (4 people ahead of me) to order this meal. I soldiered on in eating this bland and very disappointing meal. My only salvation and that isn't much was the naan. It proved to be very tasty and actually surprisingly nice in texture. This meal is not enough to ever want me to try this place or even visit the Terminal again, but I will when I am in town. read more

Do not use this place as your first trial of Indian food. It's greatly underwhelming, There's nothing wrong with what I ordered per-say, but I've been to places where you experienced a dozen flavors in every bite of your dish, while this was sort of "oh, yum, I can eat this". Maybe if you hate spicy food this is a good compromise? Also, being located in Reading Terminal means everything is overpriced. Most Indian places will provide you with enough food for two or three meals at a lower price (my frien and I "stock-up" on Indian food when we're broke). Nanee's portion was enough to be full but not more. The remainder of the complaints are more about Reading Terminal but do effect your experience: it's crowded, noisy, loud. You'll get bumped into and will struggle finding a place to eat (I had to go out to the sculpture gardens outside actually). It works if your geting a pretzel but not if your eating Indian food which should be savored and can get messy. read more

I love Nanee's kitchen, I come here anytime I'm looking for a bite to eat in the reading terminal. The food is authentic and the staff is ready to let you sample anything you'd like. You can order a platter and sit in the reading terminal or have a seat at their counter. Some of my favorite dishes are the Challa Masala, chicken masala, tandoori chicken and I always get the delicious seasoned rice. It's a big meal and will definitely keep you full and energized for hours! read more

The rice was dry and the naan was dried old pita bread pieces. The cabbage was decent, but that is the only nice thing I can say about the food. I read that Nanee's Kitchen's lassis were highly praised and even featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer. After having lunch in RTM, I wanted something sweet but not too heavy, so I seeked out Nanee's Kitchen. When I found it, it looked practically deserted. One couple was lingering, but it looked as if they were just perusing. I went to the cashier, and the man behind the counter sternly told me I needed to get in line on the other side. What line?! There was none. The couple ended up getting food, and I proceeded to order a mango lassi after. It was pre-bottled, and they had three other flavors - one being rose. Many of them appeared to have separated with milk/yogurt byproducts floating on the top and liquid at the bottom. The man shook it up prior to handing it to me so that it was all homogenized, but I still had my hesitations. The lassi had a slightly sour aftertaste -- as if it had gone bad. Although I was using a regular straw to drink it, there were pieces that came through the straw that resembled curdled milk. I barely drink half of it before throwing it away. I've had mango lassis at a number of other places and is one of my favorite drinks, but this was by far the worst I've ever had. When I'm craving something a little different but my wallet is feeling light, I tend to find myself at Nanee's Kitchen. The prices here are fantastic for the amount of food you receive. I'm not going to say this is the best quality Indian/Pakistani food out there, but for about $5, it is certainly worth a try. The area is small, so choices are limited -- chicken korma and the samosas are my go-to's . They do have some counter space so you can possibly grab a coveted spot to eat your meal. read more

Nanee's is an interesting RTM vendor. There are many things in RTM that I love - including Flying Monkey, Downtown Cheese, Mezze, and 12th st Cantina. There's also an awesome juice place - Old City Coffee, etc. However, Nanee's doesn't quite make the cut. I found the woman working there to be VERY nice. The food was interesting. I've never had a samosa made out of filo dough - and such oily vegi's. Additionally, I don't think there was anything besides potato inside the samosa. Which is odd. There's usually a few other things! The alo saag I had was good - no cream, made with real fresh palak. And the rice wasn't so awful. I paid about $5 and I got a TON of food for that - so I can't complain about prices. However, the food didn't taste amazing. It's flavor was OKAY. I really don't understand the bad reviews to this place. I guess I came on a good day, but the food was incredible! It was one of the best Indian cuisine I have had yet in Philly. HORRIBLE FOOD!! I had to come here as a tourist with a group of others. As a vegetarian, I couldn't find that many food choices here. I ordered the Basmati Rice with Channa Masala, Naan, and what they called a "Samosa". The Basmati Rice was not cooked properly and the Channa Masala had no flavor at all. When I asked for Naan, they gave me Pita Bread instead... WASTED $3.00 ON THIS!! The Samosas are Curry Puffs and NOT SAMOSAS! I wish that I could have gone to a more authentic Indian restaurant, but unfortunately, that was not possible. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AND GO TO THE OTHER RESTRAUNTS IN THE AREA INSTEAD!!! read more

The chicken was average. Cooked good, but not enough flavor. The rice was great. My biggest complaint is the price. For the portion, it should be around $6 because it doesn't seem like a "platter". From Nanee's I bought samoas, which were delightful and a two lassis (had to buy a second because the baby stole my first one.)
