I really do detest to take our good Lord and his parent's name in vain but Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey as well....I LOVE NANDOs. One thing is for sure my girlfriend bagged herself a real classy guy, nothing beats a boyfriend who eats chicken with his barehands...what can I say, it wasn't our first date and Nandos brings out the caveman in me. At the time on writing this review, I've been in Nandos more times than a Nun in a confessional box but it really is a cool place to eat. So in a nutshell.... Friendly and chatty staff. I love the relaxed vibes and ambience. The hummus and pitta combo is a delightful starter. Limited menu which is great...chicken anyway you like it....the macho peas side order is refreshingly nice. Unlimited ice cream and drinks...tis a shame they couldn't incorporate unlimited wine and beer but hey a man can only dream. So if Nandos is so great how come its not getting the four /five star treatment from me.... Well its a bit on the pricey side and Im pretty sure I could do a chicken like this at home for half the price. Also I'm in the Dundrum branch and my eating experience hasnt been helped that Im surrounded by "yummy drummies"OMG-ing in their pseudo posh accents about the latest Mulberry line or Karen Millen's latest. So this was my first time eating at Nando's! What took me so long? I guess I never really felt compelled to as I imagined it to be a bit of a fast food place... which it is. The staff have clearly had manors drummed into them which isn't a bad thing. Sat down with friends, looks through the menu and actually liked the fact you pre pay for your meal. I've always hated hanging around waiting for the bill and wondering if someone's going to suggest splitting the bill. I hate having someone else pay for my over indulgence just as much as I hate paying for others. I figured as this was a chicken place the €10 chicken wrap was going to be fantastic. I was disappointed with lack of meat and flavour. I had the Spicy Rice as a side. If you're wondering what this is like just pop down to Tesco and pick up a packet of Uncle Ben's Mexican style rice. As someone who worked in Nando's in a different country just to be close to their delicious food I'd say I classify as some kind of Peri-Peri addict. That's probably entirely down to the fact that their food is loaded with MSG. I couldn't care less when it tastes that good however. The one in Dublin differs to the Nandos you find in Australia (where I worked) in a big way. First of all you have this hybrid fast food/a la carte scenario where you go up and order your food which is then brought to the table. It also has a more "grown up" feel to its international counterparts. The food itself is simply marvellous. If you can convince yourself it's also good for you because it's got vegetables in it then all the better. It probably isn't. The sauces are the best in the business even if they are about a euro cheaper in Tesco and there's a lot of variety on the menu. In summary Nando's is something different for the Irish market. I really, really, REALLY want to give this place more than 3 stars...but, like Simon Cowell at a Hugging Contest, I just CAN'T DO IT! The food was pretty good and they were kind enough to stash a bouquet of flowers for Herself until we arrived for dinner a few hours after I dropped it off, and in general the staff was pleasant and energetic but it just wasn't enough to break the 3-star barrier. First, there's the weird sit-down, stand-up, sit-down ordering scheme. You are escorted to a table, but then you go up to the register to order, and then you go BACK to your seat, after stopping at another part of the restaurant to self-serve napkins, silverware, sauces and sodas. Some time later, food appears. Eventually. we waited 10 minutes for our wine and 15 minutes for our starter (Hummus and bread, so it ain't like they had to slow roast it...). When it did come, it was tasty. But the bread-to-hummus ratio on the starter was way off, and when we asked for more bread, we were told it was 2 Euro for more (which is OK-not-great), but it took so long to arrive I figured I hadn't made it clear that I WANTED it, and thought that the server thought I was just price checking. Our mains were indeed yummy-we had chicken pitas, and the meat was excellent. I used bits of the pita to munch on the rest of the hummus, and the Macho Peas side (with mint!) was a new taste sensation that, after some consideration, I decided I like. They have a limited but acceptable wine list, and the decor is some weird Pacific Island/Spanish fusion scheme that I'm not sure says "Portugese Cuisine" in any way, but hey, I'm from California so what do I know. One last annoyance, I paid well over 50 Euro for dinner, but they only stamped my loyalty card for 5GBP, after making a big deal over the fact that they were giving me one. If you like hot food and real grilled chicken, Nando's is for you. Have been a fan for years having had it in Manchester before, so was glad to see it open up in Dublin in Dundrum. Really wish the would hurry up and open a branch in the city now. The chicken is well-grilled with spicy sauces you choose to your own taste whether mild, medium, hot or extra hot. It's all in the Peri Peri sauce and their chicken is always cooked perfectly. You also have an amazing range of sauces to choose from to garnish on top. Sides: The sweet potato mash and corn on cob sides are the best ones in my opinion. There's loads of sandwich and platter options for those who don't want to go for the chicken on the bone. And you get free refills on your soft drinks. People seem to complain about getting up and ordering but that;'s pretty standard nowadays in a lot of restaurants (Hell's Pizza for eg) and I could waiver that for the amazing food. Dublin has had a dearth of choice for people who like good tasty food and now that we finally have some choice, I won't complain about standing in a short queue for a little while. The service is prompt and friendly, I love how the staff are able to multitask under pressure and still serve you with a smile . This place is great of a number of reasons that people have already listed. Mainly, I like the fact that they have a policy where the staff will revisit your table only once to see how you're doing. None of this, Waiter: "Is everything alright with your meal?" Me: *mouth full* "mmmph urph gurph!" *thumbs up* Waiter: "Excellent!" *5 minutes later* [Repeat] Secondly, this is a place you can bring any KFC lover or picky eater and not get a single look of confusion from them when they look at the menu. So it's great when you've got a group of friends like mine that contains picky eaters, people who say they've allergies to foods they coincidentally don't like, vegetarians who happen to each chicken, lamb, beef and anything with a heartbeat only on days that end in "ay" and a couple of normal people. Seriously, whats not to love!? well, ok, you need to like chicken for this place to work for you, but if you do then you are onto a winner here! The chicken is cooked to order (well, kind of), the soft drinks are bottomless (sadly not the beer though!) and the staff are friendly and efficient. I always have the half chicken, served HOT and extra fries. Wifey likes the mild chicken, the mashed potato and peas Junior sits quietly and just eats...anything, everything... in blessed silence ... noteworthy in itself and a worthy testament to just how good the place is! This is a restaurant in the same way Pizza Hutt is... Very limted table service, mostly self service. The prices are high for the portions you get as they are small. With regards to this "legendary" Peri-Peri sauce... I am not impressed, it just chemically hot, no flavor. I have enjoyed many hot Mexican salsas, BBQ sauces, Jamaican Jerks, and spicy vindaloos and this Peri-Peri sauce leaves me to wonder what the fuss is all about. I'm really glad that I tried Nando's. I had 2 fairly picky kids with me and they tend to like Eddie Rocket, MacDonalds, Pizzerias etc. This was a very interesting and entertaining change and I felt that they were eating real food ! Sam had a half chicken with mashed potato (Sam loves mash), Andrew had a chicken burger (a real chicken fillet) and chips and a "free" desert of frozen yogurt (refillable) and I had a caesar salad. The ordering process is very quirky but the service was very pleasant and they talked me through what I needed to do to place my order. I didn't know Nando's was open in Dublin until a friend pointed me in the direction of Dundrum. I absolutely love spicy food and Nando's does some of the best chicken I've ever tried. Sadly this one was a bit of a let-down. The peri-peri chicken wasn't too bad but I've had better; it was also a bit on the pricey side. The service wasn't that great either and the restaurant definitely lacked in atmosphere. Been to Nandos many times and in several different cities so I know the food pretty well. It is usually good and always seems consistent from city to city. Love the peri peri sauce and the fact you can choose different heat levels. So why the 3 stars? It just comes down to price. I usually go to Nandos for a quick bite at lunch time. The problem is I always seem to end up spending over €10 and all I get is a drink, a chicken fillet burger and a side. The chicken burger is like € 7.50 and doesn't come with anything which is why I need to order a side. Maybe I am just a greedy pig-dog, who knows. Just wish I could get a quick lunch at Nandos a bit cheaper. I will be back to Nandos and the staff in Dundrum were especially friendly. read more

OH really does not like Nandos. I'm so-so and teenager likes it so we naturally went on Friday night. As usual, it was heaving. As usual, high preponderance of teenagers in well-behaved groups. Always a wait for a table which, for a fast food joint, is somewhat incongruous. I won't labour the ordering process except to say it's unique but it seems to work. Helps that your main product is chicken every which way. OH didn't fancy chicken (see above) and the options were limited. She opted for a Halloumi Burger with peri fries and was pleasantly surprised. Teenager and I big opted for the safe solution of butterfly chicken, garlic bread and peri fries. Personally, I thought the whole thing was too spicy but it's Nandos so hard to complain if it actually does what it says on the tin. Bottomless drinks, in and out in under an hour. Good buzz, friendly and efficient service and modestly priced. You gets what you pay for - hearty, spicy, generously proportioned fast food in a reasonably comfortable environment.
