Out of curiosity... I made a note to look up the meaning of Dacantus (this is a Spanish place, only one person working here (the bartender when we arrived) isn't Spanish) - the closest I could get was "wine aerator" but I think that's because there's a wine aerator branded Decantus. We'd never seen Beefeater 24, so hubs ordered one with grapefruit and cardamon garnish and Fever Tree Light Tonic £6.50. When hubs tasted this, he said "wow" very softly and his eyes lit up. I had Bombay Sapphire with juniper berries and lemon peel and Slim Schweppes Tonic £5.95. They really twisted those peels to get as much aromatic oil out of them as possible (and they did it with two sets of tongs, not their bare fingers). The cardamon was a ground spice. The ice was very large - less dilution of the cocktails. I liked the juniper berries quite a bit. We were offered an aperitif to accompany our gin & tonics, chicken in a mustard sauce, quite tasty. Then we ordered the pork cubes. Not at all what we expected! It was a larger portion and the food was universally delicious! We'll be back in summer of 2016!

A glass of champagne starts at £6.90 and whiskeys or draught beers from £4.20. Wine is the usual price for city centre indulgence. The cocktail list looked really interesting and I'd be keen to sample next visit! The only criticism I currently have is the lack of seating or even perches for your drinks....lots of people left standing which seems to work in a pub but takes the shine off this bar. Maybe it's worth a visit midweek as I did attend on a busy Saturday night. He is sadly no longer with us, but after a stay on the hottest days last summer, I know staff worked long and hard to keep everything cool. Also, after lockdowns, when kennels everywhere were full, and I didn't know when exactly I needed to travel, due to a family emergency, Ryan offered to find my dog a place whenever I needed, and followed through. It was one less thing for me to worry about, and I was very touched by their kindness. So I really can't speak more highly of everyone here.

If I were a certain 21 guy I'd be worried. Dover sole was excellent, as was the proper beef filet. The cheese souffle was wonderful and the special request regarding its serving set up was met because they are freshly made, unlike others in town who make them in advance. The bar is a very pretty and inviting room and we couldn't find fault with a thing during our extended luncheon. Aaaand, they allow well behaved dogs in the lovely bar. Highly recommend!

Located on Front Street in Tynemouth this is one of the quieter bars - there seems to have been an influx of people hoarding to Tynemouth in the last few years and from a Friday through to Sunday you will be lucky to find a bar that isn't packed to the rafters! This is therefore my "go to place" with a small seating area out the front and inside this place is more of a wine shop however there is more than meets the eye! They serve most of their wines by the glass and once ordering you take a seat and they bring the drinks out to you. The best thing about this place; the small pot of crisps they bring out to you. It's probably better to describe them as small sticks but it goes so well with the wine it's a good combo! Bonus? We found out about it using the free StreetAway app, and managed to get 34% off 3 Tapas and 2 Drinks! The location, as I previously touched on, is absolutely stunning, and is a real hidden gem. It's nestled right on the River Tyne, next to the Swing Bridge, and we went at night, meaning it was a fantastic sight to see the lights of Newcastle. As for the food itself, I couldn't have asked for more. I'm normally a picky eater, so was very apprehensive about actually eating here. However, I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised (who'd have thought Squid would taste so good!). Initial Reaction: Being that we were unexpectedly staying for the night due to the weather further…read morenorth, through my Yelp search, I found some cocktail lounges to check out. The Botanist was an excellent find when we stayed the night in downtown Newcastle. Located on Monument Mall, you have to up three flights of stairs or take the lift (elevator) to reach the main bar and lounge that has a strong botanical garden theme that is quite beautiful, especially with the location being under a dome. The dome is gorgeous and really enhances the botanical garden and atrium effect. The cocktails are very good as well. I ordered a buttered coconut old fashioned that was quite rich and creamy, but very satisfying with the toasted coconut and butter-washed Makers Mark bourbon with homemade salted honey syrup. My wife enjoyed her Botanist Ultimate Gin & Tonic as we took a table with these plushy lounge chairs. The bartender was fantastic and friendly in making us the cocktails. Really nice guy who made us feel at home. Additionally, they have a rooftop balcony to enjoy the drinks; however, on this evening, it was windy and cold (at least for us Floridians) to where we decided to stay warmer inside. But we would return in a heartbeat.
