I thought the place was really reasonably priced although I see from the other reviewer that he didn't agree. Maybe since then they have dropped their prices. Not sure, but for 2 beers and 2 spirits and mixers it was round about 12 pound, which was the cheapest we had paid all night! I think this is a nice place for tourists as well because it is really a nice, little, traditional British pub!

The Botanist was an excellent find when we stayed the night in downtown Newcastle. Located on Monument Mall, you have to up three flights of stairs or take the lift (elevator) to reach the main bar and lounge that has a strong botanical garden theme that is quite beautiful, especially with the location being under a dome. The dome is gorgeous and really enhances the botanical garden and atrium effect. The cocktails are very good as well. I ordered a buttered coconut old fashioned that was quite rich and creamy, but very satisfying with the toasted coconut and butter-washed Makers Mark bourbon with homemade salted honey syrup. My wife enjoyed her Botanist Ultimate Gin & Tonic as we took a table with these plushy lounge chairs. The bartender was fantastic and friendly in making us the cocktails. Really nice guy who made us feel at home. Additionally, they have a rooftop balcony to enjoy the drinks; however, on this evening, it was windy and cold (at least for us Floridians) to where we decided to stay warmer inside. But we would return in a heartbeat.

My friend and I had the pleasure of soaking up the sun here this afternoon. Drinks are very reasonably priced. I don't think I've ever found another place in Newcastle where you can get a glass of wine for less than £3! They also have a good selection of pub and British food and a few dishes under 500 calories for those wanting a lighter option. I had the Spanish style chicken which was lovely albeit nothing particularly special. I would be keen to try a Sunday roast or come here again mind!

I was recently in Newcastle for a guided beer tour (read: ale pub crawl) and our first stop after…read morearriving in the city was Bacchus. As soon as you cross the threshold into this place, you're hit with the juxtaposition of the clean, modern styling from behind the bar and on the walls against the dark, old-school wood and upholstery of the seating and the cool brass of the hand pumps. Whilst in here, I decided to sample what I presume to be a local brew - "Toon Broon". Being someone who enjoys a bottle or two of the ol' dog*, I figured this would go down well and I certainly wasn't wrong. I received a good, easy drinking brown ale which I'd quite happily have knocked back in larger quantities had we been there for longer. The stand-out aspect of my visit here, though, has to be the bar snacks. My girlfriend and I ordered a hand-raised pork pie and a black pudding scotch egg to share, but to be honest we both agreed afterwards that we'd rather have ordered two of the scotch eggs. There wasn't anything wrong with the pork pie, not by a long shot. It was a good pie, filled with quality pork which was excellently seasoned without too much jelly inside the pastry which I liked, and it came with a seemingly home-made piccalilli which was also pretty good. It just didn't stand up to the black pudding egg, though. The egg itself was wrapped in a good layer of black pudding, maybe 1-1.5cm thick all round, and coated in what looked to me to be panko breadcrumbs to add some crunch. The egg inside was cooked, but not overdone with no discolouration around the yolk. Not content with simply serving up a cracking scotch egg, it came accompanied by a dark ale chutney. Oh. My. God. That chutney. It was stunning; it was delicious in it's own right but it added an astounding sweet-savoury note to everything which was amazing. Overall, I'd quite happily return to Bacchus if I ever found myself in Newcastle again on the beers. Not just because they have a cracking range of beers and spirits, but in no small part also so I can order about 10 of those scotch eggs. (I accept no responsibility for any addictions to black pudding scotch eggs which may arise from visiting after reading this review. Consume at your own utterly delicious peril.)

It's long, thin and cramped, but for that reason it's not allowed to pack several hundred people in so there wouldn't be a stampede in an emergency. It's an original, and that's the appeal. Having said that, it's been fitted with a safety feature to ensure a speedy exit for all concerned parties. It's called a door - there's one at the front, and one at the back, too. The Crown Posada is a perfect little pub, and there's too few of them left. Stained glass windows, a snug, ornate ceiling, real ale, and the fading gramophone entertaining those nearby. It's perfect.

It has one of the best views of any bar from here as you look down the bank over the quayside, and the Tyne Bridge and the Swing Bridge are below. There is always real ale on too! Good place for a pub lunch, and not too busy or noisy at the moment while the High Level Bridge itself is out of action.

I have been taking my spaniel here for over 5 years without a problem. The staff have given him…read moremedicines when needed, and even cuddles, which I so appreciated. He is sadly no longer with us, but after a stay on the hottest days last summer, I know staff worked long and hard to keep everything cool. Also, after lockdowns, when kennels everywhere were full, and I didn't know when exactly I needed to travel, due to a family emergency, Ryan offered to find my dog a place whenever I needed, and followed through. It was one less thing for me to worry about, and I was very touched by their kindness. So I really can't speak more highly of everyone here.
