    Spectacular place where Solidarity reigns!!

Kathy treated us to a wonderful historical tour!! Outdoor patio was a spectacular surprise. Great Union history here.

We finally made it to Nancy Whiskey! I've been wanting to come here forever and St. Patty's Day was a perfect time. My friend has been here before and describes it as a classic. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the crowd was enjoying dancing to an Irish Band. We had an absolute blast. We will most certainly be back!

We went on a bar crawl for my friends 40th birthday and we had such a great time visiting this super old bar and learning about the history. They had a really cute outdoor area as well.

If you're not a regular don't bother. They will ignore you. Bummer because I really wanted to like this place and was excited to go. Drinks and service was weird, it was like we were intruding, taking up the place that was for the regulars and they so did not want to help us. Went for fish on a Friday and it wasn't bad, but the hole vibe we got made us not want to return. And that sucks cuz we were paying customer and probably won't return. But they won't care.

Well, I couldn't be happier Nancy Whiskey's is back open and in full swing after a fire that had them closed and rebuilding for almost a full year! They are back to business and I couldnt be sadder that some of the greatest memorabilia in the city went up in flames, but NW is slowly regaining their old-school dive bar charm. Weekends you will find live blues (no cover), Thursday is open mic night, every night there are cheap drinks and the bartenders, staff and owners are great. Don't miss St Patty's parade day, St Patty's Day, Tiger's Home Opener and the Friday night before the parade (St Patty's practice) as they are probably the craziest and wildest times of the year. Tents are up in the back for added space. Also Nancy's is a GREAT spot for bar crawls but keep in mind its hard to find a worse neighborhood in the middle of nowhere (actually, they are across the walking bridge - I75 - from old Tiger Stadium, God Rest Her soul). The new backyard is sort of a part of the bar now, and you can go back there for fresh (ok, smoke-filled) air. Also, Nancy virgins are treated with a welcoming gift. Be sure to tell em I sent you :)

It is a true Irish bar. Nice staff. Huge selection of whiskeys. Dark dive bar. Kind of off the beaten path.

Always a good time. Cheap drinks and loud music. The ultimate dive bar. It has a dark past but it is a part of Detroit history.

Probably didn't write a review sooner because I never thought it needed it, but I want to really give them their roses. Yes, it is a dive bar. But it is two levels of fantastic. Reasonably priced drinks in a world gone so mad that an old fashioned is $20 nowadays, really good food (try their burgers, very good or their wings, booyah!) and while I should give them 1 star for this, the only bad thing about them is that it's a spot for Arsenal supporters (Go Blues!) LOL. One of the best parts of the bar is that they offer shuttles to the major venues for their events. Why I usually start here before every Lions or Tigers game I go to. Regarding service, the bartenders are usually fun, and I am a fan of all of them. They provide great service even when they are packed. If you go in wanting fun and a good time, you won't be disappointed.

I thought the saloon-type entry doors were a fun touch. I liked the atmosphere, too. The menu is wide-ranging, from breakfast any time to burgers, salads and sandwiches. I don't drink alcohol often, but I noticed they had a good selection of hard cider. I decided to get the one that was on the top of the menu -- something with pineapple. It was sweet but very good. My sister had the Honest John's hard cider that was on draft. It wasn't as sweet, but it was good as well. I had the grilled johnny john sandwich -- chicken, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce on grilled pita. It was very filling; I only ate half! My sister had the chicken Caesar wrap, with the same result. We ordered some plain fries to share. Those weren't anything special. All in all, I liked the restaurant and would go back.

It's lively, welcoming, and has that perfect mix of neighborhood bar and downtown cool. The kind of place where you can show up for brunch, dinner, or just drinks and know you're going to have a good time. I ordered the pattie melt, and let me tell you -- it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and loaded with flavor, with that golden grilled bread and melty goodness that makes every bite better than the last. It's comfort food done right. And the frozen mimosa? So good. Refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to sip. It's the kind of drink that makes you want to stay for "just one more." The "you figure it out" approach to the individuals guest experience is always respected and appreciated, and with one of best old school juke boxes Ive seen in years. Other amenities including a fully operational porcelain sink in the middle of the bar for patrons that need a quick rinse (something that I didn't realize was super convenient. Why has this not been adopted elsewhere?), and a giant metal still of fresh water readily available for thirsty patrons (if you can't get it to shut off, plug it with your finger and ask a regular before you really off the bartender, which is to be expected). A perfectly priced order of a beer with a whisky chaser, along with a can of red wine, and an order of fries was the perfect way to celebrate the occasion. Rehashing, once again, our unconventional story led to us trying to figure out what was happening within the different social circles of the room. This was both entertaining and worrisome at the same time (obviously none of our business, but we left hoping the best for everyone involved lol). Not sure if the reincarnation of Log Lady is a regular, but I am pretty sure I heard her say "it's happening again" from the corner of the room. 10/10 recommend after a major life purchase. 4 stars. This is an update to my previous review of HopCat Detroit…read more I still love the food and the lively, energetic ambiance here. The fresh, flavorful meals and the downtown vibe make it one of my favorite spots to grab a bite or hang out with friends. That said, I want to elaborate on my not-so-great dine-in experience from before. One night I decided to eat in, and while my waitress was genuinely nice and attentive, the experience took a weird turn when my meal was brought out. The guy delivering it just walked past me, dropped the plate on the table with a loud clank, and didn't greet me or even acknowledge me at all. It was jarring -- not only did it feel careless, but it completely broke the warm, fun vibe I'd come in expecting. On top of that, I had the app downloaded to earn rewards points, but my waitress never added them, which was frustrating enough that I ended up deleting the app. That one visit definitely stood out as an exception in an otherwise positive history with this location. Since then, I've had better experiences with staff, and the food and overall energy of the place continue to shine. Despite that one odd incident, I still highly recommend HopCat for the atmosphere, creative menu, and fresh food. I'll continue coming back and will share more updates (and pics) along the way.
