Kathy treated us to a wonderful historical tour!! Outdoor patio was a spectacular surprise. Great Union history here.

We finally made it to Nancy Whiskey! I've been wanting to come here forever and St. Patty's Day was a perfect time. My friend has been here before and describes it as a classic. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the crowd was enjoying dancing to an Irish Band. We had an absolute blast. We will most certainly be back!

We went on a bar crawl for my friends 40th birthday and we had such a great time visiting this super old bar and learning about the history. They had a really cute outdoor area as well.

If you're not a regular don't bother. They will ignore you. Bummer because I really wanted to like this place and was excited to go. Drinks and service was weird, it was like we were intruding, taking up the place that was for the regulars and they so did not want to help us. Went for fish on a Friday and it wasn't bad, but the hole vibe we got made us not want to return. And that sucks cuz we were paying customer and probably won't return. But they won't care.

Well, I couldn't be happier Nancy Whiskey's is back open and in full swing after a fire that had them closed and rebuilding for almost a full year! They are back to business and I couldnt be sadder that some of the greatest memorabilia in the city went up in flames, but NW is slowly regaining their old-school dive bar charm. Weekends you will find live blues (no cover), Thursday is open mic night, every night there are cheap drinks and the bartenders, staff and owners are great. Don't miss St Patty's parade day, St Patty's Day, Tiger's Home Opener and the Friday night before the parade (St Patty's practice) as they are probably the craziest and wildest times of the year. Tents are up in the back for added space. Also Nancy's is a GREAT spot for bar crawls but keep in mind its hard to find a worse neighborhood in the middle of nowhere (actually, they are across the walking bridge - I75 - from old Tiger Stadium, God Rest Her soul). The new backyard is sort of a part of the bar now, and you can go back there for fresh (ok, smoke-filled) air. Also, Nancy virgins are treated with a welcoming gift. Be sure to tell em I sent you :)

It is a true Irish bar. Nice staff. Huge selection of whiskeys. Dark dive bar. Kind of off the beaten path.

Always a good time. Cheap drinks and loud music. The ultimate dive bar. It has a dark past but it is a part of Detroit history.

We came in sat at the bar and got our drinks in an instant. Our server was quick and got the job done. I ordered a whiskey and Coke 10/10 because Maker's Mark and Coke don't miss. Very disappointing first experience…read more My companion and I visited McShane's in Corktown for the first time and sat down at the bar. We waited approximately 3-4 minutes while the bartender talked with other staff and lingered nearby. During that time, he never acknowledged us, never made eye contact, never said "I'll be right with you," and never asked if we wanted anything to drink. He was close enough to know we were there, and we were clearly new customers sitting at the bar with no drinks in front of us. After waiting without even a simple greeting, we decided to leave and try the outdoor bar instead. I asked the bartender outside if he was the bartender, and he said yes. He remained seated, continued talking with a group of women, and again made no effort to ask what we wanted or explain how service worked. I even mentioned that we were new there, but that didn't change anything. At that point, we decided to leave altogether. As we were leaving, instead of trying to help or understand why we were walking away, the interaction became dismissive and argumentative. I don't expect instant service, especially if a bar is busy. I do expect the basic courtesy of being acknowledged. A simple "I'll be with you in a minute" would have been enough. Instead, we were left feeling unwelcome and ignored by two different bartenders. We took our business elsewhere, and unfortunately, our first impression of McShane's was that new customers simply weren't a priority.

I walked up not sure if it was even open but a haggard looking woman carrying a bunch of shit popped out and carried on down the road. I knew it was open. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly bartender with glasses and a handlebar mustache. There were maybe 3 or 4 other people at the bar I could see. A couple more in the back patio. This is a real great bar. They have a pool table, full bar, and great beer selection. Not a huge selection but a good one. Plus it was a gay bar and I couldn't even tell. Great place welcoming everyone. Support local! Cheers!

But if you know crowds are coming when shows let out... you've gotta be ready for it. Two bartenders for a packed bar just wasn't cutting it. I waited about 20 minutes for a drink and eventually just gave up, which is frustrating when you're trying to enjoy a night out. And the one drink I did get earlier honestly looked like a sample cup. The place felt kinda dirty and weirdly quiet (before the rush)? Like super dark (which I get, dive bar) but no music or energy to balance it out. It just felt off. I've been here a few times now hoping it would hit different, but it hasn't yet. If you're the owner reading this, I'd just say plan for those post-show rushes. Even one more bartender and a little boost in atmosphere would go a long way. I'll probably still swing back because of the location, but man... I'd love to actually enjoy it next time.

I thought the saloon-type entry doors were a fun touch. I liked the atmosphere, too. The menu is wide-ranging, from breakfast any time to burgers, salads and sandwiches. I don't drink alcohol often, but I noticed they had a good selection of hard cider. I decided to get the one that was on the top of the menu -- something with pineapple. It was sweet but very good. My sister had the Honest John's hard cider that was on draft. It wasn't as sweet, but it was good as well. I had the grilled johnny john sandwich -- chicken, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce on grilled pita. It was very filling; I only ate half! My sister had the chicken Caesar wrap, with the same result.
