I wholeheartedly recommend Nancy Langley if you're searching for a psychotherapist, either for short- or long-term work. I first met Nancy more than a decade ago when a therapist friend suggested I contact her because she has much experience in helping people cope with personal and family illnesses. At the time, my son was gravely ill and waiting for a kidney transplant. If it weren't for Nancy's steadfast support and nurturance, I don't know how I would have found the strength, in turn, to offer my son the emotional support he needed at the time. Fortunately, my son received a live-donor transplant and is still doing very well as I write this review many years later.
After my son recovered, I decided to end my short stint in therapy with Nancy, but about a year later asked her if she would be willing to work with me on some ongoing challenges in my life. In particular, I wanted to do a better job at juggling my responsibilities as a single mother, maintaining intimate relationships, dealing with my father's declining health, and simply feeling more fulfilled in my personal life and career. She was eager to work with me again, and so my long-term therapeutic journey began.
I won't confess how many years I worked with Nancy on "my issues" (lest you be tempted to compare me with Woody Allen), but it was a long time. Sometimes we met weekly, other times, every other week, and sometimes less frequently. She was even willing to do some phone sessions when we couldn't meet in person. Nancy was always prompt in returning my calls and flexible about meeting with me on short notice when I wanted some extra guidance or support.
It's difficult to summarize Nancy Langley's skills and qualifications as a psychotherapist without writing a tome, but I'll attempt to list a few here. Nancy listens--no, not just hears what you're saying--but listens deeply and compassionately and uses her finely honed intuition to unearth the golden meaning behind your words. Remarkably she also recalls little details from previous sessions, which are relevant to the discussion of the day. Nancy is whip-smart, but always approachable and down-to-earth, and her feedback is constructive and on target. She is never judgmental, regardless of how atrocious your thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors may seem to you, but does offer concrete suggestions for improvement and occasionally even gives "homework" to be done between sessions. Although in-depth therapy is serious work, Nancy has an excellent sense of humor and laughs with you at all the right times.
If you have the good fortune to work with Nancy Langley as your psychotherapist, I believe the chances are high that you will feel safe, deeply cared for, and much wiser for having done this life-affirming work with her as your guide. read more
