Vancouver International Airport - Really enjoyed this place.

Impressive layout considering it's an international airport. We got in and out in record time…read more If you're renting a car, pick up and drop off is a breeze as the rental car area is just right across the arrival area. All you literally need to do is cross the street. Immigration was a breeze. I do have to mention that much like other international airports, they no longer stamp your passport. I've noticed that they just do a digital scan of your face and you're good to go. On our exit, I ended up getting some alcohol at the duty free cos they seemed cheaper or at least cheaper.

A breeze to fly out of there. However, don't make the mistake I did. Normally we drive so our…read morepassport cards are fine to cross the border. Our annual trip we take a cruise ship for one night from Seattle, then dropped off in Vancouver. We went bring our passport books only the cards. This was the first time we sailed there. When we got to the airport we only had our passport cards. Even if the passport office convinces you to get the card as well as the book, remember when you fly internationally you can only use the book. The card is only for land and sea. We almost didn't make our flight, but customs were gracious enough to let us through. We will never do that again. Another nice thing is our flight to Seattle is only 30 minutes. It'll say one hour, but in reality it's only a 30 minute flight. It takes long to flight out and land then taxi in. I would've given 5 stars, however this time around was the first time tsa was particular about my cosmetics. I've never had problems going through tsa with my solid body butter, or my balms. I pretty much had to throw away a few of my items. Even though most of the bottles were empty. So I really didn't mind throwing away my half empty toothpaste, my husbands half empty travel size shaving cream, and my almost empty hair freshener. They did give me baggies to fill up as much as I can. This was a first in all my travels 5 times a year domestic or international where I had to toss the same cosmetics I always travel with. Most are travel size. My husband thought gal had a chip on her shoulder because she was yelling at one of her co-workers the same time. So maybe it was a bad morning already. All and all it normally runs smooth at YVR.

Sweet little regional airport. "International" because it has direct flights for the US, which…read moreappear to have their own gates (and probably a US customs, but it's not currently open). The main domestic terminal has 11 gates. There are 2 cafes, a seated restaurant, and a news stand. Not a lot of options. Wash rooms are really, really nice! I'm not confident there's enough terminal seating for everyone if there are delayed flights stacked onto regular departures. The seats are large, which is nice, but the organization of them didn't prioritize capacity. There are only so many flights in, so there are also only so many opportunities to rebook if your flight is delayed. Currently the 6:20a to Vancouver is delayed until 10a, and our 8:20a to Vancouver is fully booked and standby is full. Ferries, however, run on the hour from Sidney to Vancouver. So book flights with awareness that if you get stuck, the airline is limited in getting you where you want to go.

This is a very nice airport. Clean and well managed. Great staff…read more On arrival, customs and immigration was quick and efficient. Leaving was easy too. I got here 90 minutes before my flight to Seattle with no worries. I even ran into a Brother Freemason working security. Lovely man. It's bright, comfortable and pleasant at YYJ.

This tiny airport manages to be both luxurious and user friendly all at the same time. Parking is…read moreright by the door. Arriving 30-45 minutes prior to flight time is just fine. The planes are so small that they'll ask your weight, and ask the customers who would like to be the co-pilot. If that's you, then you'll ride right up front next to the pilot. The Terminal where you get your boarding pass is approximately 30 to 40 feet from the gate. The gate is a ground floor glass door. From there you walk across the Tarmack old style, and up a little flight of steps to board your plane. Luggage goes in the wing, even your carry-ons. Since the plane holds 10 people including the pilot, think of it like as a Disneyworld ride. The views are arresting. Flying at perhaps 8,000 feet, this is the way to see the San Juan islands and Puget Sound in all their glory. There is one downside, the engine hum is so loud that you can't possibly have a conversation, but there's so much to see, why would you want to? Oh, And there's no drink service or food -- obviously. These little planes get tossed around by the winds and bad weather so if you're prone to airsickness, do the rest of us a favor and take the ferry.
