I was a yoga newbie when I started at the studio at their longtime location in downtown Royal Oak over seven years ago, and was very excited when the studio moved to 13 & Rochester, gaining more space & their own parking lot. The space is really lovely, warm & welcoming, as are all the staff, front desk, owners, teachers & classmates. Experienced attentive teachers & a philosophy of 'adapt the post to your body, not the body to the pose'. I'm very happy with the instructors I've had & am constantly learning & challenging myself, which I really enjoy. Being part of this beautiful community of yogis means a lot to me & I've met some wonderful people here. Thank you, Namaste! read more

First, I purchased a new student class pack with a short expiration period. I came down with the flu and asked for an extension and they never responded. Second, I took a Hatha class and mentioned to the teacher that I just started Ashtanga yoga last year and the studio closed. She said very sarcastically "This is not Ashtanga yoga!" Which made me feel unconformtable. Third, the class had 0 sight lines. You cannot see the teacher. Direction was very wishy washy. Fourth, I won't be coming back. read more

Namaste has now moved to 13 & Rochester, and the new space is just as lovely. The staff continue to be extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. I've taken 3 classes at the new place and love it! read more

Studio offers a new student pass which is a great way to try it out. Teachers are really good and staff is friendly.

Great little studio in Royal oak Went to 4 different classes during my time here. Very much enjoyed the diverse instructors and classes read more

I really want to like this place, the people are nice, and they have good equipment, it's clean and has a great space. I was hoping to make it my regular place, and wanted to go before work multiple days a week. Unfortunately currently they have nothing at 7 or 8, not till 9:15 that doesn't end till after 10, so too late in the day for this to work. I'd just like a nice basic beginner friendly class a couple times a week at 7:30 or 8 ish. read more

I am recovering from a fractured 5th metatarsal surgery (pin in my foot) and wanted to ease back into yoga as well as other physical activity. I wanted to start with gentle yoga classes. I bought an unlimited pass for a month. Everyone at Namaste Yoga is very nice and welcoming, including other students. I told the instructors about my injury and they were very accommodating. They have everything you could possibly need to adjust your postures like blocks, folded blankets, mats, etc.. I have never done another type of yoga except hot/Bikram yoga, so this was a nice change. It's not as challenging but the challenges are there in a different way. They have a very, very tiny parking lot. The driveway is easy to miss since it's very narrow on the left side of the building. There are maybe 6 spots? If you get there early enough, you might be able to snag a spot, otherwise street parking is your best bet. I'm so glad I tried them out! I will keep going even after my pass is done. read more

Namaste Yoga is the real deal in the sea of hot/pop/workout/western yoga. Classes are designed and taught to help you bring your attention inward and become more aware of your inner self. This is a challenge for most of us, as we rush around, perpetually busy, always thinking ahead. Namaste is an oasis from that, and you always feel better than when you came in. Classes range from; gentle hatha, yin, vinyasa, restorative to better backs and slow flow. I recommend this studio to anyone who is wanting to deepen their practice and awareness. read more

Open for live classes or you can attend through zoom. I did a live class this morning with Barb and it was amazing to be back in the studio. They are sanitizing, and staying safe with masks, social distance mat indicators are taped to the floor, hand sanitizer, disinfecting the studio regularly. I highly recommend this studio read more

I am new to the area and have been trying out new yoga studios in search for the perfect one where I can practice. Pros: - The location of this studio is great since it's not right downtown where it can get busy during rush hour. - Offer lots of different classes - Very affordable; they offer student discounts. - The staff is friendly Cons: -The studio space isn't super welcoming, the floor in the yoga room is cold and almost has a doctors office vibe. Although, the windows are amazing and during the morning can be very relaxing watching the sun come up. - The classes move slow - I was disappointed in the Vinyasa class since Vinyasa is supposed to be fast and typically the room is heated and the class I went to was neither. I think this studio is great if you are looking for a calm and relaxing kind of yoga experience, not a make me sweat and get a good workout yoga experience. read more

Having practiced yoga in several different cities for five years now, I have been exposed to numerous studios. Namaste is a quality studio, but I would have given it three and a half because it can be hit and miss as far as instructors/classes go. I've been about 10 times and even when I attend on the same day, I've repeated my instructor only once. I need some consistency in my yoga life, please! Consistency is my biggest problem with Namaste, which can be attributed in part to my varying yoga schedule. At times classes are packed and the instructor is challenging. Other times, it can resemble what you'd imagine yoga to be at a retirement home. Basic can be super easy or it can also be more challenging than you'd imagine, although I was hungover that morning. Other notes: The good: All of the instructors are super nice and open to helping you. There are no militant barkers and most participate with you or adjust you. Yoga mats are also provided at no rental charge, which is a plus if you happen to forget yours as I do. I like all of the windows and the lack of mirrors. Having mirrors can sometimes be distracting or even keep you from twisting your body a certain way because you're staring in disbelief. The not-so-great: I once stood in line for a very long time as the woman at the desk talked with two Detroit Mercy students about being college athletes. She went on and on (well after they had paid and I was still waiting) about how she was a former college athlete and how everyone should hire college athletes because they have such great work ethic. I couldn't help noting the irony. Maybe former college athletes just aren't so great with customer service at reception desks! I don't really know. read more

I've been challenging myself to daily yoga practice, therefore, I have been at Namaste every day the last 15 days. Whew. Namaste offers a great variety of classes throughout the day, some of them more challenging than others. Also, because they have so many instructors, many of the classes by the same name can also vary in pace and style. As someone who digs variety and enjoys the change in pace, I've had a lot of fun the last few weeks exploring the different classes. A few quick notes: -The vinyasa classes are generally faster paced and a little bit more challenging. These are the classes I've gone to, where I want to work on my crow pose and eventually get to a headstand. -The essential hatha classes are a little slower paced, and depending on the instructor, can be quite challenging. -The energetic classes are not always 'energetic' - I went to a few thinking it would be like a power yoga. They were not. But ultimately, what I like about Namaste is that it seems like it truly just values the practice of yoga - in its most elemental sense. As another reviewer noted, most of the students here trend older, are not always clad in lululemon, and don't look like the commercialized version of a yogi. But, I think, that's part of Namaste's charm: yoga, after all, is not just for fitness, but to promote a lifestyle that is more mindful - and that is exactly what Namaste delivers on. read more

Namaste has a really soothing laid-back atmosphere. They make yoga accessible for all levels. Some places seem to have a bit of an elitist attitude, but every time I go to Namaste, I feel welcomed. First class is free, and they have an intro 5 class package for $50. I think their prices are on par with other studios in the area, and they are my favorite! read more

Went here a few years ago for a winter package deal for three months. The staff is friendly and there is no pressure to preform any of the yoga moves perfectly. The studio is somewhat tight when there is a full class. Unlike other studios in the city, Namaste Yoga, sticks to the calm, zen-like atmosphere that people normally associate yoga practice with. They offer mats and blocks for people without their own equipment. There is also a small changing area if you need it. The only thing not to like about this place is the pricing. If you're not included within a package deal, it can be expensive as $14 per session! Luckily they do offer different packages year-round. Be sure to ask about the deals. read more

I hate yoga. Well...I used to hate yoga. I went to several classes at studios in Chicago and always felt out of place. There it seemed I was too "new" to do the classes. Namaste has completely changed my attitude. I LOVE yoga now! I finally get it. I haven't been to a ton of classes, but I try and get to Moonlight Yoga at least once a week. Cheryl is a great instructor and I especially enjoy the neck massage with lavender oil during shavasana. Her class is a great way to end a long stressful day! Go to Namaste and give yoga a chance! read more

This is my favorite place to do yoga. For one, it's less expensive than many other studios, and they supply mats, blankets and cushions at no extra cost. It's also a really beautiful space with a lot of natural light. I've only been here a handful of times, but I really enjoyed my instructors. They were open, kind, funny, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure every student got the most out of the session. I'm definitely a beginner, but Namaste is accommodating to students at all levels. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to try out a new studio. read more

Love this place, I have practiced yoga in the several different countries that I have lived in and I must say that Namaste is one of my favorite studios. The vibe is relaxing and non-judgmental. Classes are taught by a variety of people of all ages and shapes, there is no stereotypical 'yogi' here. My favorite teacher, Beth, is heavily pregnant and sooo inspirational. I find myself floating out of her classes not only having had a great workout and stretch, but having had a great life lesson too! This is yoga for people who want to experience the peaceful energy and non-judgment of yoga, which is how it should be. read more

Favorite yoga studio! I love the instructors first of all! I have had classes with 3 different instructors and they are all helpful. I like that they walk around and help you if you are confused/ need to modify. I never feel like I will hurt myself. They have a pilates/yoga fusion class which is wonderful! I also really enjoy their late night classes. Overall the staff is friendly, the studio is clean, and I always leave feeling great. Come here and get centered! :) read more

I've been going to Namaste on and off for over 4 years now. I had to have spine surgery back in 2007, and so I do the gentler classes. Luckily for me, Tuesday morning and Sunday morning is a Better Backs glass, and I find it both gentle and challenging, which is nice. Sometimes when things are for bad backs, it's almost too easy and I get bored. Tuesday's 9 am class is with June, and I adore her. It's a little more gentle than Sundays, but every once in awhile she surprises me and really really kicks my butt! This class is usually not so cramped, and I would say great for someone new to yoga. Sundays class is at 10:45 with Rhonda. She is awesome, her class is ALWAYS packed, so get there early, and she gets you moving. It's a much more energetic class than Tuesdays. I wish June did an additional class during the week. That is honestly my only complaint, that there is only Better Backs twice a week. You're first visit at Namaste is free, and I believe they have a new member package as well. read more

I just started visiting Namaste Yoga a few months ago, but I've been going once a week pretty consistently. I love the new location on Rochester Road in Royal Oak. Not only is it very close to my home, but there is ample free parking available which wasn't available when they were located on Troy Street in downtown Royal Oak. I usually attend the 8am Saturday morning class with Samantha. She is awesome. I'm very much a beginner in my yoga practice, and she does a phenomenal job in making me feel comfortable during our session. She consistently reminds her class that yoga is about function, not form. Her voice is very soothing, so it's very easy for me to relax and fall into my practice. I highly recommend taking one of her classes. I've always been hesitant about trying a new studio, or a new instructor, but not anymore. I've found my studio in Namaste and my instructor in Samantha! Thanks guys! I'm a huge fan. :-) read more

I went to a more relaxing nighttime yoga class here. it was awesome! The instructor seemed very knowledgeable and no one in the class made any attempts to show off as I have experienced at other yoga classes (Center for Yoga). I would love to come back here! read more

if you really want a yoga place that makes you feel comfortable and included, i suggest namaste. there is just something absolutely pleasant about all the instructors. it's the perfect yoga studio for a new person and great for any laid back person looking to enjoy a class. a plus side is the large airy room with plenty of windows. i'm personally not a fan of the dark, hot yoga room. love, juston read more

I went to my first class at Namaste this evening. It was prenatal yoga with Laurie (Lori?) and she was great! The instructor was knowledgable and helpful and very kind. I am excited to go back! read more

on my quest to find the perfect yoga place for me, i made my first stop at namaste yoga. i am a novice - i've been to the center for yoga in birmingham for their free saturday class a few times & that's about it. namaste was friendly, the room was big & the instructor had the typical "I-LOVE-LIFE-SO-MUCH-BECAUSE-YOGA-IS-SO-GREAT" attitude that i have come to expect from a yoga instructor. however, she yapped a bit too much during the lesson. and they left the lights on in the room practically the whole time. AND there were windows that lead to the parking lot. and she was all "OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK AT ME" and then i saw the parking lot and was like "i don't feel very relaxed, and my buns...they don't feel nothin' like steel (RIP Brittany Murphy)". In short, I think finding the right yoga place is a highly personal experience rooted in preference - and I don't think Namaste is the right permanent place for me. But i'll probably skeeze on their free saturday class from time to time. read more

I really need to try Namaste again before judging, but that's what Yelp is for: judging. I tried out a class here a few months back and have been more than reluctant to try again. I'm an intermediate student, so I'm somewhere between a novice and a champion. I must preface what I'm about to say by saying first that I think it's WONDERFUL when those who are extremely out of shape and morbidly obese partake in an activity that will benefit their health and assist a more healthy lifestyle. However, when I jumped into my first class at Namaste, there was no warning that everyone in my class would be very, very obese and have a very hard time even sitting in child's pose, if they could even make it there to begin with. I felt like this class in particular should have come with some type of disclaimer to the average student. I am just looking for a satisfying yoga experience with a professional, endearing teacher who can really connect and teach students, but what I felt here at Namaste was alienation and confusion, especially by the instructor in a dirty Detroit Lions sweatshirt who was also very large and could not do any of the poses she was trying to instruct others on. I know my review reads very jerky, but there is no polite way to explain what I experienced here. Although, I still would prefer this experience Yoga Shelter's practice of blaring Jay Z and Beyonce while everyone tries to melt into savasana, but I'm not sure when I can work up the courage to return. Also, the aesthetics of the studio are very strange. The classroom is laid out in an L shape, so that can just be kind of funky for everyone. read more

i checked out namaste yoga the other day and really enjoyed it. they have a nice promo where you can have your first class free and then after that you can buy a 5-pack intro for $50 which is a great deal. i went to gavin's ashtanga mix class and found it challenging, but in a good way. i did find it hard because for some of the poses we did that i rarely do or haven't done before i didn't know what the sanskrit name was. so i spent a little bit of time looking around which would shake my focus. but that is what is really cool--i practiced (or attempted to) some asanas that i had never seen before. the space was nice, the light was great at my 6:30 class. the only thing is that the 8pm class was outside waiting for us to finish and it got a little bit of noisy towards the end. oh, and i guess you should know that the class did chant in the beginning. i'm not much of a chanter. but it was only 1 minute of the 75 minute class so i guess it's okay for me. read more

I love, love, LOVE this place. I'm a yoga novice, only having started practicing in July, but I've been trying various types of yoga at Namaste with various instructors. It doesn't get much better that Namaste Yoga. Reasonably priced. Great atmosphere. Professional staff. What more can you ask for?

This is a great yoga studio - simple and unpretentious. Anyone should feel comfortable walking in and signing up for a class. Some of the classes are easy and relaxing, some are a seriously good workout - there have been plenty of times when I couldn't hold onto that downward dog or plank as long as they wanted! No judgement; lots of instruction and if you have questions, the teachers are always around to answer. I always leave with a sense of calm... read more

I moved here two years ago from Chicago after graduating college and needed to find a place close by to continue my practice. I've tried out a few other places around and some were better than others. This has been the best so far. I know Yoga shouldn't be competitive but in Chicago it can be that way sometime. The look when I came in to Namaste Yoga the first day with my Manduka mat was priceless. Good teachers and good people here. read more

Namaste is great. I never worry I might get hurt in one of their classes or that a teacher doesn't care about me. This studio is the real thing an Linda, the owner, is a great teacher who is very knowledgeable. The quality of some of the other teachers does vary a bit, though, and a few of the general classes should be labeled "gentle" so people can expect a much slower-paced class than usual. read more

So far, I have really enjoyed taking classes here. I usually go to the same class every week and it's a very easy class. I wish it was more challenging, but it's free! The staff is very friendly and I don't feel awkward there. There is no pressure to preform in the class I attend. The instructor is different each week, as they rotate. The music, if there is any, is always calming and quiet. The class itself is very relaxing and I always feel more peaceful when I leave. Although I only attend the free class so far, I know that the drop-in fee (meaning you haven't purchased a class package) is $15 which is very reasonable. I usually see prices between $16 and $25/session. Parking is sometimes an issue, as there are only a few spots in the back. But you can usually park across the street on Troy St. or on the next street running perpendicular to it (can't remember the name). The owner is very nice and she's approachable. I've seen a couple of very young girls there (probably age 8) and although small kids can't do all of the poses, the class is definitely kid-friendly. read more

Cute yoga studio with excellent variety of classes, reasonable prices, clean facility and very friendly and accommodating teachers & staff. I'm a novice and Mike (I think that's his name) showed me how to intensify my yoga poses, which I appreciate. First class was free, plus I got a super great deal on livingsocial.com. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I did not quite like the ambience of the studio. The windows are huge and there are tons of light coming in. I prefer my studios to be dimly lit, thus providing a more relaxed atmosphere. read more
