Reminds me of Shakespeare:
"Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good."
You get the idea.
There's no Chinese equivalent to the above, at least not to my knowledge. There are, however, a couple of poetic idioms. I like my idioms
分一杯羹
望梅止渴
and of course
換湯不換藥. There are many many more, so I'll stop.

The ladies here are helpful when I'm looking for stuff. They know what I'm trying to cook up,.... for a friend,...that is.... Occasionally they'll try to upsell, but not on my most recent visit.
I know I'll be back when I run out of ingredients and I'm making my next batch of soup, ummmmmm, errrrr .... for a friend... read more
