This place still does it for me. Great soups (usually 3-4 options per day), served up with a slice of bread that you'd have to dislocate your jaw to be able to eat (I'd recommend tearing it up tbh). Whack a wee piece of fruit onto the side and you have yourself lunch for 3 of your earth pounds... AWESOME! I plonked myself inside for a spot of lunch and initially cursed the fact that I had to perch myself on one fo the stools by the window. Now usually I have the fear taht these chairs are either going to break under me (damn you CM role for my growing gut!) or, I'm suddenly going to get dizzy and tumble to my demise from the heady height of 2ft (or whatever height it is). But wait! 'Dem stools is sturdy with a capital woooft. Keep your bottles of Irn Bru, packets of Paracetamol and hours tucked up in bed. The only thing that I need to cure a hangover is a visit to my local one stop lunch shop! Named for it's soups and rightly so! Naked soup has been churning out the best in home made goodness since I moved to Glasgow. Recently had a Chorizo broth that would have blown the face off of a buffalo, but spicey is how I like me grub! The sandwhiches in here are also very good and all home made as well. £4.95 sees you walk away with a soup, sandwhich, drink and peice of fruit. Bargain considering how good the stuff is! This is a place I have fancied trying for some time now but alas every time I walked by it's been in the evening when it's closed. I had a day off and was round at my man's and we were out on some errands and I suggested there for lunch. Before we headed round Ian firstly thought it was the Two Fat Ladies restaurant or a another branch of theirs but happy days it was Naked Soup. Please note there is no nakedness involved, well I suppose the soup doesn't have clothes on so then I guess they really are naked. Oh my! We decided to opt for the meal deal, which involved a soup, sandwich/panini, piece of fruit and a soft drink/coffee. Watch out though, as the panini costs a wee bitty more as part of the meal deal. At first I was going to just have the soup but when I saw the size of the crusty bread, I was worried my jaw might just break off. I decided to go for the lentil, sweet potato and coconut soup, a brie, bacon and cranberry panini, an apple (they only had the choice of apples or tangerines), and a cheeky wee can of Irn Bru, because I'm that classy. Ian had the same soup but had a ham and cheese panini, tangerine and a coffee. It was absolutely mobbed and mostly full of students, no seats inside or out so decided on taking away, since it's only 5 minute walk away back to Ian's. We did have to queue for a bit. The guy who served us was very nice, we said this was our first visit and he welcomed us, which I thought was really nice of him. The other guy helping him was a busy bee too with making up the sandwiches at the back and serving and clearing tables. It's definitely a whoosh of activity and I would advise going early or when you're not in any rush. The food was deeeeelicious, I would highly recommend as they did have a good choice on offer at a reasonable price. Fantastic little cafe serving soup and sandwiches. Great atmosphere that reminded me a bit of the diner in Batteries Not Included. They show a film on a big screen too which is nice. I cherish the day I found Naked Soup. If you like going out for lunch, eating healthy and saving money this is the place for you. It does fantastic meal deals, such as a sandwich, drink, soup and piece of fruit of your choice for under a fiver. The soup is homemade and delicious, and the two guys behind the counter are absolute gents. The only downside to Naked Soup, is it's a best kept secret that everyone knows about; it can be hard to get served on a busy lunch time without a lot of queuing, plus there isn't a lot of seats so you may find yourself having an impromptu outside lunch in the park, so pray for good weather. Located just off Great Western Road on Kersland Street the vibe here is welcoming, cool and laid back, they mostly supply the good people of the west end with take away, but you can find a few booths inside and a small seated area outside to eat in if you prefer. This is not really somewhere I would linger for long, not because the staff wouldn't make you feel welcome but because it is so busy at lunch time I would hate to take up a table for too long. The staff are pleasant and will usually say hello and have a smile for me when I come in but on the whole are normally too busy to engage in more than the briefest of conversations which I don't mind, like I say they are super busy so I don't take it too personally. There are a few members of staff who are perhaps a tiny bit on the glum side...but I think this is just their personality so again don't let this put you off. :-) Food wise as you would expect there are lots of soups on the menu - always on the board is lentil, sweet potato and coconut soup, then usually another 2 options which change around. Some of my personal favourites include - cumin & parsnip, tomato & celery and a chicken & rice (which is hardly ever on but amazing) If you are unsure if you will like a soup just ask them for a little sample to try which they are always happy to give you. Now you may think initially that the soup is a little expensive at £4.20 for a medium carton but this includes a huge chunk of fresh bread and a piece of fruit so in fact is pretty reasonable. Also on offer is a selection of all day breakfasts my favourites being the square sausage roll which is always awesome and freshly made pancakes which are fantastic, but you do have to wait a wee while for them. There is a beautiful selection of sandwiches, paninis and cakes to tempt you too. To top it all off they also make a pretty mean latte...well worth trying when you are next in the west end and looking for some lunch. read more

Went there for a nice catch up with lovely fellow yelper Rosie last Friday. I was pleasantly surprised by the wooden interior, with a nice retro warmly feel. I ordered the chicken, Manchego and coriander mayo sandwich which was lovely. Not quite sure about the side tomato and red pepper soup though which was a bit bland. Only 2 soups on the menu this day, lil surprising for a place called "the naked soup" but ey. Little overpriced I thought too, would be nice to have a lunch deal going on. Total bill for myself 6,20 pounds for a small sandwich and a side soup with no drink. The website though, advertises a lunch deal for around a fiver. My experience at Naked Soup sucked harder than an angry squid. The soup was good enough but you will not BELIEVE what happened as I went to sit down and eat it! It was a busy day and pretty crowded. I was moving a stool so that I could sit on it - not the easiest of manoevers when you're eight months pregnant - when someone shoved me from behind and told me to get out of their way. I lost my balance and nearly fell on my bump - pretty rude and dangerous, I'm sure you'll agree, but no reason to criticise the eatery, right? Wrong, cos that man was the OWNER!!! He proceded to tell me off for my lack of manners for not getting out of his way, and told me I had better improve my ways if I wished to return to his establishment (to which I replied it was unlikely I would - that's literally what I said as I was too shocked to think of something suitably sweary!). When I relayed events to my husband, who had been up at the counter, I had to restrain him from punching the guy for endangering his unborn son and slighting me. To explain this I should point out that I am hard of hearing, and it's entirely possible that I was asked to move politely before being attacked. It's not the only time I've had an angry or impatient person assuming I was for some reason deliberately ignoring them (despite the fact no-one I know has done that since primary school). However, lack of understanding of a hidden disability does not permit shoving, especially not of five foot tall heavily pregnant ladies who appear to be alone. Random rudeness, we deaf folk are used to, but this was inexcusable. Please people, just tap me on the shoulder and say it again, and be sure that what you're saying is along the lines of "let's eat someplace else!". read more

I cannot believe this wasn't my first review! The best soup in this area by far! Hidden a away off Great Western Road if your passing stop for a coffee or even better some soup! What to start with!! Sweet Potato and coconut soup, this has been on their menu for years probably since it has opened! I'm guessing I'm not the only person that loves it! Then the bagel with creme cheese with the option to add salmon! Now your probably thinking you can get this anywhere and yes you can however when in other places I just feel they scrimp on the cream cheese and on the salmon! Naked soup portions are very fair, they will even tailor your order! Now for my fave! The waffles and maple syrup! Sometimes you can add ice cream they toast the waffles just right! You can also have the choice of takeaway or sit in! If you sit in you always have daily news papers and if you don't fancy a paper there is sky news on in the back ground! Naked Soup rocks! The soups are delicious (my favourite is the Lentil, Sweet Potato & Coconut) and are made fresh daily on the premises. The coffees are really nice too and they each come with a small slice of caramel shortbread. Everything on the menu is excellent value and prices are much cheaper than most other cafes in the area. The staff provide fast and friendly service (especially if you consider how busy this place is). The cafe is often packed, so if you can't get a table, take your lunch to go and enjoy it in the Botanic Gardens (you can sit on a bench in the main glasshouse if it's raining). read more

The food's fresh, healthy and cheap (if you get a meal deal - soup, sandwich/salad, a drink and a piece of fruit (generally tangerines or bananas are the only ones available...?)). This place is literally a five minute walk from my school and so i like to pop in whenever i feel like i need a caffeine fix. Having only tried their coffee and waffles i cannot so much about their food. However their coffee is very nice and fresh (not a bad price either for what you get). The waffles and syrup were lovely, i had never liked waffles before i tried them here to i have been converted and seen the light! I've been wanting to try here for a while and finally got around to it last week. Nice handy location just off Great Western Road and 2 minutes from the end of Byres Road. It's very small inside but I was lucky to grab the one seat left when I got there and this was late in the afternoon. There are a few booths and some seats around the window, outside seating is available but well we all know what the Scottish weather is like. I chose the lentil, sweet potato and coconut soup and it was delicious. It came with a giant piece of bread and a piece of fruit, chuck in a drink and it came to just under £5. There are usually 3 soups to choose from but there are also plenty of other options available, waffles, all day breakfast, sandwiches etc Saw a range of things served when I was there and it was good quick service considering how busy it was. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The place seems to attract every type of customer from students to tourists which has got to be a good sign. Definitely need to go back to try some other soups but I'm sure it will be just as good. Think this might become a popular lunch spot for me read more

Hence it being a main stay of the West End. Hearty, quirky and tasty soups are freshly prepared each day and are obviously the main attraction here. Of note is the excellent value lunch deal, that, for a mere £5, you can take home, a soup of your choice, a sandwich of your choice, a piece of fruit and a drink. Wowzer! Usually buy the Brie And Grape sarnie from M&S but decided to try Naked Soup's Brie and Cranberrry Jam sandwich/Roll this morning. One word: Amazing! It was so tasty. I know they don't make the cheese themselves but the jam and the fresh rocket salad was so good. It just tastes really fresh and not "generic." I'd definitely walk the extra five minutes to pick something up from them more regularly. They were also prototyping nacho bowls which looked really good also. Well worth a try! read more

My friend suggested popping for lunch here today to heat us up on a chilly day. Soup, I thought - a good idea on a day like today but not the most exciting of lunches. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. The soup was brilliant. Thick creamy and delicious and kept me filled up all afternoon. It was served with a chunky bit of tasty bread and a piece of fruit too. I also ordered a can of diet coke as was th-ir-sty and it came to £4. Bargain. I used to come here for lunch back when it was on Byres Road, and if it's still even half as good then you're in for a treat! Since my student days I've traveled to places with some of the most diverse cuisines in the world, and have still never come across such a delicious soup place! So healthy and wholesome - why haven't soup cafes caught on elsewhere? so, i really want to give this place two stars, but then i remembered the time i went to naked soup for an early morning breakfast... and that breakfast was an egg and bacon sandwich + an espresso. and that was delightful. well, the sandwich more than the espresso... but all in all a good combination. however, i've been to this little place a couple of times for lunch and i've always been letdown. maybe it's just the soup selection has always been particularly bland when i choose to go in... i dunno, but the sandwiches (sans breakfast, im talking paninis) are an absolute joke. mine tasted a bit like plastic and was just generally not nice, despite being something simple- i think it was like salami and cheese. i definitely do not recall the meat being nice. so the next time i went for soup i hoped for better options and opted for just bread, no sandwich. the soups have always just been meh... nothing special and nothing more homemade tasting than a tub of soup i can get from waitrose. also, the bread that came with the soup almost tasted like a bread substitute- it was very light and airy with no real taste. sigh. basically, i just want wow soups. wow soups with interesting ingredients in a bowl please. read more

I often forget about Naked Soup because it's quite a way removed from the heart of the Byres Road cafe scene and being such a small place I often wonder whether it's worthwhile taking the risk of heading out all that way just to find it full to the brim. Thankfully I take the risk sometimes and am rewarded with some of the nicest coffee in town served with a wee caramel slice (a lovely touch) and a very tasty Cheese & Ham panini made of top quality ingredients. The soups, as you'd expect from the name, are great and come with a healthy fruit of your choice. They also offer American pancake stacks for breakfast and there's usually a free newspaper laying about. I love the friendly atmosphere of this place, it's a real local gem, though the wife often complains that she comes out smelling of greasy cheese toasties... read more

Nice interior and pleasant staff but the menu could do with a refresh. Arrived at 1pm on a Sunday - hoping for a breakfast roll which they say they do all day at weekends, except that they'd already run out of rolls, so instead of offering the fillings with the bread they still had, the only options were sandwiches. I've had them here before - the veggie options are rather bland and have been on the menu for a long time. Personally I do not want cranberry with brie, but because they're all premade you can't ask for one without. I find the mozarella, pesto and tomato insipid and predictable - why not ring the changes with artichokes, feta etc, perhaps offer a tuna melt. So I opted for the veggie soup - sweet potato, lentil and coconut. It had a good texture but it was underseasoned. It really needed a kick of something - cumin, chilli, anything to give it some depth. Oh and the bread it came with was stale, really stale. read more
