I walked in recently for a manicure on a rainy day during my vacation and ended up getting a regular polish (non shellac) for $45. Rather pricey, and the manicurist herself was rude--no conversation, just yes/no answers to my polite questions and attempts to make chit chat, despite the fact that she would speak to other customers.
I would probably have forgotten the experience quickly and moved on, but the polish chipped immediately--I saw chips as soon as I walked out of the shop, and didn't have any confidence they would be resolved politely or I would have gone back in. Ended up having to get the polish removed and have a whole new shellac manicure done (for only $40) once I got back to Sydney.
