I am from the States, and I am a beer enthusiast! I was on a business trip to Malvern working with a company that later screwed me over, but that did not put me off of Malvern, because of this pub! The Nags Head is a place that has 15 hand pumps for cask conditioned Ales. The place is old like a real pub should be. It is so kewl to sit in a public house that has been around over 200 years. The service was great the the restaurant that is attached is really quite good. Specializing in "Slow food" they only take reservations but I as a single managed to get squeezed into the dinner line up. I highly recommend if you are ever in Malvern to find the Nags Head and enjoy it! read more

I absolutely adore this pub and restaurant. Traditional in style with low ceilings, open log fires, and corners to huddle in and have a natter. The bar service is top notch with orders taken swiftly, but I was a bit disappointed that they were not able to offer presseco or champagne by the glass. They sell plenty of real ales and craft beers here - a wide variety which is superb. We sat by the log fire and it was lovely to see locals, and visitors in here. This place can get pretty busy as a result, so it would be wise to book a table if you fancy eating in the restaurant otherwise you can grab some bar food in the bar! The Sunday menu offers roasts and fish, and let me tell you the roast was superb. The service was excellent and after devouring my roast the dessert board was bought out - lots of lovely traditional desserts such as crumbles, sticky toffee pudding and a cheesecake. This time round I shared a cheesecake with a scoop of rum and raisin ice cream. A place that I could happily relax in for a few hours and I did! I will be back. read more

One of my favourite little pubs. The Nags Head is quirky, cosy and welcoming. The staff are great and quite efficient (which is rare in pubs these days). The pub is full of lots of small areas to sit with a few fireplaces dotted about as well, nice in winter. The patio area is great during summer, perfect for walkers/ramblers. There is an outdoor log burner to huddle round to keep toasty. The lunch menu, while it is limited, is nice but could do with a bit more variety. But the restaurant part of the pub on a Sunday lunchtime is another story... absolutely banging roast dinners here. If you're in the area then a visit here is a must! read more

Quality. A fantastic selection of unusual real ales and a bustling, friendly atmosphere. They even had three different farm ciders. The biggest problem was actually knowing what to choose!!! My Ledbury-based brother took me here one evening, saying it was the best pub in Malvern, and boy was he right. What a great selection of real ales, from all parts of the country. There are plenty of little corners to escape into and enjoy a good pint and a chat. Only two small gripes, one was getting to the bar and being served quickly. I think some of the locals were reluctant to give up some of their space. And finding the place in the dark wasn't the easiest, even for my local bro. But from the train station we managed to stagger across and up a few of Malvern's lush green fields to reach our destination. Visited here with my son and it exceeded my expectations with the wide range of excellent ales on offer. Hadn't booked for food but with hindsight we should have as there was a very full dining room. The atmosphere is very rustic and not at all restaurant like, with great views at the rear and solid wooden tables etc We had a long wait for our food but hey ho we hadn't booked and when the fillet steaks arrived it was worth it, all freshly cooked veg to accompany. Cheese board excellent long wait again but hey ho! Definitely visit again a real English gem! read more

Typical market town pub, with good food and good value beer

This is the best pub in Malvern, and has been for a number of years now. On a friday and saturday night, it is heaving and it can sometimes take a while to get a drink because the bar is so small. This fact is the only reason I didn't give the Nags a 5 star rating. There is a decent sized seating area outside which is usually busy even in the depths of winter. The Nags is very popular with local people, but in no way could it be accused of being a Local, having, as it does, a suprisingly cosmopolitan feel for a provincial town. read more

Another great spot to visit while in town. A fair walk from the Abbey Hotel, but worth the jaunt. An authentic pub with a great selection of beer. I was looking for a spot to sample the local beers and was quite happy when we arrived, a great selection of bottled and draft beer. It was crowded, but friendly. I am always in 2 minds about the Nags Head. On the one hand, yes it has a great selection of beers and lots of space outside (but not around the bar) and the owner is a great guy who spotted a niche market in Malvern. It is a good place to take impressionable visitors, business clients and relations. On the other though, it does attract the CAMRA beer nerds, people who think they are a bit "trendy" and Public School types who don't mind the high prices. I sort of preferred it before, when it was a rough spit and sawdust place and where you felt a fight was about to break out any minute amongst the tattoed bikers using the pool table. It was more honest and not a pretend free house. I prefer the 3 Horseshoes down Poolbrook. read more

The Nags is a brilliant location for any night out. The restaurant serves great food to suit most tastes, and the bar menu is great for lunches. Staff are friendly and flexible - happy to accomodate large groups at short notice where they can. Definately worth a visit on the way up to or down from the hills if you go on one of the routes nearby, or for social gatherings of all occasions where you can look up at the hills in a great view instead. An evening is usually packed with locals and not-so locals! A word of warning - the great atmosphere is helped by a no-swearing policy, have a care with your words. read more

Honestly one of the best pubs, set into the beautiful Malvern Hills. Multiple guest ales through out the year, great pub and restaurant food, as well as entertaining locals. A fantastic finish to a breath taking walk on the Hills. Plus its all down hill from the top. read more

I've been going to the Nags Head for many years now (and why not, I live just round the corner from it!) The pub is well run, the staff are friendly and the beer and food are both excellent! However, I've recently started to avoid the place because it's become a victim of its own success: particularly on Fridays and Saturdays where it is so busy that it turns into a bit of a sweat pit! Another personal gripe is that it tends to attract the pompous 'rah-rah' types who see Malvern as a brand accessory rather than a place to live. Despite this, give it a go, it's great, and so are Duncan's (the landlord's) other enterprises at the Chase Inn in Upper Colwall and the Swan Inn in Newland. read more
