Vegetable Coconut Curry with garlic naan and mango lassi, soo goood!
    Aarti B.

Delicious veggie coconut curry, bursting with flavor! The curry tastes like Korma with a coconut flavor and a mild spicy kick. The fluffy Garlic Naan was pillowy soft and perfect for mopping up the curry! The heaping portion of curry and garlic naan were priced reasonably. The restaurant gives a 15% discount to locals, who live in the area, which the staff kindly gave me. There's a nice small outdoor patio in front of the restaurant. Excited to come back for some curry!

Fast and delicious for lunch! We ate outside on a windy fall day and enjoyed some warm sunshine for our meal. The bread basket was incredible--garlicky, buttery deliciousness. The masala sauce was so smooth and flavorful with just the right amount of heat for my taste. The chunks of chicken breast were not dried out like can be the case with chicken tikka. And the rice was fluffy and fragrant! Can't believe I haven't tried this neighborhood staple before now and it's my new go-to.

Had a great dinner with my sisters here. I ordered the lamb biryani, and it was delicious tender lamb with a perfectly seasoned rice and a yogurt-based sauce that brought everything together. I asked for no spice, but it still had a tiny hint of heat, which I actually enjoyed! My sisters started with the veggie samosas, which were generously filled and flavorful. For their entrees, they chose the tikka masala. While the portion was on the smaller side, they really liked it, and it paired perfectly with the garlic naan we ordered. The naan was warm and garlicky, a great complement to everything we tried!

Delicious and authentic Indian food near Woodley Park metro. Food came quickly and nice ambience.

Excellent food exotic to an american. i highly recommend the garlic naan. i expect any of the naan are equally great. The cocktail i ordered was a generous pour / portion. The staff were very attentive and I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought the prices were a very good value for the quality

Takeout Review: A very good fine Indian cuisine experience. In the city this is one of my go-to restaurants for Indian cuisine. At this place you get authentic Indian flavors at a reasonable price. What I like most about this place is they are true to the heat levels, so order accordingly. If you choose medium or spicy spice levels expect true heat. I was very impressed with the quality of curry used in the chicken curry and lamb curry. The cardamon is so prevalent and in traditional fashion you get a hint of sweetness, warmth with the heat and depth of flavor. I really appreciate the focus on detail with some of their staple Indian dishes. I've tried various dishes and I always have a feeling of satisfaction in that I just ate a comfort meal. The focus on detail is comes into play with their takeout operation. The takeout food is so fresh. My drive home from the restaurant is approximately 20-25 minutes and the food still tastes restaurant quality fresh upon arriving home. My favorite dishes are virtually any curry dish. The naan is also delicious. I will continue to patronize and one of these days I will dine and and I anticipate giving it a 5* after my dine-in experience. Give them a shot.

Naanwise is a pleasant Indian restaurant steps away from the Woodley metro stop. The dishes were generous and the restaurant did not skimp on rice (thank you). Service was quick and the restaurant is nicely decorated in an Indian motif. My Rogan Josh was tender and the sauce will seasoned.

We were looking for a spot after walking around the zoo and came across Naanwise! Food is delicious, service is great and good portions. We ordered mango lassi, lamb biryani, lamb curry, chicken chettinad and garlic naan. The mango lassi was delicious and refreshing. We ordered all our food "medium spicy" which is a level 4 out of 6. Lamb biryani and lamb curry had soft and tender lamb pieces and both were great, the chicken chettinad was delicious and definitely spicy. One garlic naan gave 2 of us 2 pieces each. Overall all our food was great and we had enough for leftovers. It is pricier than we expected. We usually do order extra food at Indian restaurants to bring home leftovers, but typically it's not as much this. One recommendation: plastic bags or plastic containers would be better to carry leftovers. Ours started leaking and broke our paper bag within 20 minutes.

    Lamb Biryani

Naanwise continues to serve up delicious dishes! The service is impeccable and it's always feels like you are having an excellent home cooked meal. Love all the dishes on the menu. Go to dishes include Lamb Biryani, Chicken Makhani, Chicken Coconut Curry, Daal Fry, and the Chicken Pakora to name a few!

Wanted to love this spot and routinely give top Yelp ratings... however, the family ended up not eating the food (so spicy our eyes hurt when we opened the food... lol... and I am Queen of spicy... the spicier the better... very seldom get anything too spicy for me). They had leftovers and frozen pizza instead. Side of Raitha missing, so no relief in sight if we endeavor to try it. Ordered via Uber Eats, so no way to fix the error. May try again sometime and order mild food, but we usually only like spicy (just not this level of FIRE). :)

I do think this review could be beneficial for others with a number of severe food allergies, but I want to be clear about how the restaurant tried to rectify the situation because my bad experience wouldn't necessarily reflect the experience of others. The reservation site requires you to input any allergies ahead of time so that they can accommodate you. I've used this many times before at other restaurants and never had an issue. In my experience, restaurants will be prepared with the allergy ticket at arrival. I have also eaten at numerous Indian restaurants before without issue, and I had a friend with me who had suggested this place because Indian restaurants are usually accommodating, in their experience. When I sat down at our table and mentioned my allergies, the waiter immediately said that I chose the wrong restaurant. This struck me as quite rude, and I was shocked because I have eaten at so many restaurants in my life and have never been told that. It left a bad taste in my mouth, but we continued to try to work something out. They were unaware of my allergens, so they went to print the allergen ticket and discuss with the chef. When they returned, they pointed to 2 items on the menu. Both of those had my worst allergens in them. At this point I was starting to get concerned for my safety if I were to eat what they prepared. After identifying those allergens on the pre-written reservation ticket, they spoke with the chef again and said they could make a dish from scratch. To be fair, they were doing their due diligence to rectify the issue, however, at this point I was concerned about the attitude toward my allergies and their mistake in suggesting what would be safe to eat. We decided to leave and went to Chef Geoff's down the street. I recommend you compare my experiences at these two restaurants if you have food allergies. Overall I was honestly shocked and mortified because I have never had an issue like this at any restaurant in my entire allergy-ridden life.

The food was great, but tables are too small so if you decide to order a good amount of dishes it probably won't fit. So, I would recommend to not too many dishes as you won't have anywhere to put it. Our table of 4 with a good amount of food, they had to hold orders back just because the plates were too big and the table was too small. We got the fries, we got the samosas, we got the Tikka Masala, Mango pani puri, and some other entrees. All of the dishes were well flavored and unique. I think my whole experience though was somewhat ruined due to the small table and the big plates. I think they need to change the flow of the restaurant, but that's just my observation especially if you're a group that wants to try a lot of different type of dishes. Overall, our experience was good. The waiting staff was nice and complimentary, but the table situation I think is meh for me. Fine for a single person, a bit of a nightmare for groups.

For all my other adventures visit: https://www.instagram.com/food_for_chu?igsh=Zjk3ZDlrNTAxY2J0&utm_source=qr D.C. Michelin #1: For our first stop in our nation's capital, I am reviewing the Indian restaurant, Rania. This is actually my second time at the restaurant, however I only experienced the 3 course option that time and opted for the full tasting experience this time. Ambiance: 4.2/5.0 The restaurant is simple, yet elegant. The noise level is moderate and you don't have to worry about listening to someone else's conversation all night. I have yet to travel to India, but I imagine a fine-dining establishment there to look something like this with the goblets, arches, and see through walls! Service: 4.4/5.0 In my first trip to Rania, I actually had to bring my golf clubs which the host stored for me and even carried it out when I was leaving (it is extremely heavy). In my second trip, the service was again top notch. The waiter was attentive and enthusiastic making me excited for the full tasting experience. The pace of the meal was also perfect. Food: 4.3 Amuse: Two incredible small bites starting with a Sabudana Vada, a warm and spicy fritter that was soooo good. Next, a Chana masala that had that same incredible warmth but a tomato kick instead. First: The first dish of the tasting was a yellowfin tuna tartar and Pani Puri. The crunch of the pani puri complements the tuna so well and the yuzu vinaigrette was not overpowering. I will say, that there wasn't a wow factor for this dish however, but still tasted good. Second: Next up was a scallop dish with an Amritsari (cooking style that blends spices for a burst of flavor) sauce. The scallop was cooked perfectly and sauce is no joke. At first the flavor is subtle as you really taste the scallop, but then the kick comes in and it is delicious! Third: The next course was a Nargisi Kofta quail egg, Swiss chard, truffle cream, and pickled mushrooms. Think of a scotch egg with chicken as the outer covering. This dish was surprisingly spicy (you see a theme here), but the creamy sauce complimented the crispy chicken so well. If it's too spicy, make sure to eat the chard to give yourself a break. This was fantastic, but be warned, it's deceptively spicy! Fourth: I then had a Shrimp momo which is a shrimp dumpling. The dumpling sits in a moilee sauce which is coconut based. First off, I will admit that shrimp dumplings are not my favorite, but it was perfectly cooked in this dish. The sauce has a great savory and nutty flavor. However, there was a bit of an aftertaste that I couldn't wrap my head around. Fifth: For my fifth dish I got to eat a Lamb Seekh kabob. The lamb is incredibly tender and the Kashumber (cucumber in yogurt) is a perfect compliment. I will say that the flavors weren't as strong, perhaps because the previous dishes were so powerful. Sixth: The last savory dish was my selection of the duck vindaloo (chose over the squab tandoori). Vindaloo is a spicy curry and think of the duck like a duck confit. The skin is so crispy and the meat is extremely tender. The duck also comes with naan, rice, and lentils. This feels like a traditional Indian meal but elevated to the max. So much flavor, perfect cook, and the best accompaniments, my favorite part of the meal. Dessert: To wrap everything up, dessert was a chocolate tart with masala chai ice cream. The chai flavor balanced out the dark chocolate fudge to perfection. As someone who doesn't really like chocolate, the chai itself made me want more. Overall: 4.3/5.0 Just like my first trip, the food was great, ambiance serene, and service superb. There were a couple of dishes that didn't wow but overall I can't complain at all. As someone who loves Indian food, this experience elevates while keeping true to its roots. Rania is absolutely deserving of its star, and I can't wait to return!

Some of our favorite dishes were Gobhi Manchurian, shrimp Koliwada, Chana masala panisse, beef short rib with saffron nihari. For Dessert we had kesari mango and chocolate tart with masala chai ice cream, both were great. My only concern is that the staff needs to be trained in explaining the dish when it is brought to us.
