The staff were friendly, and I didn't have to wait too long to be called back. Hygienist ?Daniele? was easy on me and even complimented that I was the easiest clean in weeks. I asked if that meant I got the easy on the hygienist discount. Laughs. Dr Wardius was obviously very experienced and thorough and easy to work with. A couple of recommendations were made and I was out of there quickly. While the practice was not pushing technology, I left thinking that maybe the office could use a little bit of a technology upgrade. But it was just an overall feeling that I had, nothing specific comes to mind.

I called about 5pm on a Thursday and got an appointment for the next morning, unheard of in the city. On the basis of that appointment I needed a deep cleaning, scheduled for the following Monday. They are also replacing my veneers which are very old. They just took wonderful care of me. Everyone was very professional and non-judgemental, they do their own insurance processing right there in the office, and even fill prescriptions. So glad I found this office!

I fully believe that they botch insurance claims on purpose so they can squeeze as much money as possible from the patients. The practice manager is incredibly unprofessional as well. I was actually prepared to contact the Bureau of Consumer Protection and the State Board of Dentistry to complaint about this office. I might still do the later. The point is, that my family and I will not be returning there, and if you're a head of family who cares about them, you should pay attention to all of these reviews. They are that low for a reason, and protect your family by not taking them there.

I have passed it hundreds of times in the past two years since living in the area. It's a quaint building, a residential property. I went in today after making a SAME DAY APPOINTMENT, which is unheard of. I arrived half an hour early and the inside is so quaint and cozy. You don't feel like you're in a waiting room, you almost feel like you're on someone's enclosed country porch. I filled out my paperwork, and I was taken back to the dental chair RIGHT ON TIME. No waiting, no wondering. The hygienist was incredibly sweet and polite (the receptionist too), took all my info and was very considerate and understanding taking my x-rays which of course are so unpleasant. Then I saw Dr. Emily Hu, and I cannot recommend her enough. She was SO patient with me. I have no pain tolerance, and she was so considerate and kind. Several times she held up a hand mirror and showed me exactly what was going on with some problem areas, and explained clearly and in a non-judgmental way. Going to the dentist is never fun but this experience was so great, I just can't believe it. I have seen some pretty crappy dentists in my life but HappyCare and Dr. Hu were the best I have ever visited in my 40 years on Earth.

OK my ninjas, let's talk…read more I freaking hate going to the dentist. I really hate it. I have horribly sensitive teeth (yes yes, everyone says that; trust me on this one), and just the thought of that metal dental hook of death gives me the sweats. I'm not exaggerating. Because I have soft teeth (thanks, Dad!) I have always been vigilant about going to the dentist every 6 months... until I got a job that was 100% travel, and going to a 2-hour dentist appointment required me to take a 1-week-increment of vacation time. So... I hadn't been for a checkup since 2007. (Don't judge; I wasn't happy about it either.) Anyhoo, I deemed 2010 to be The Year I Get My Teeth Addressed. My teefs were even more sensitive, so I had to break up with my old anti-nitrous dentist and find a place that did *sedation dentistry*. Enter "Simply Beautiful Smiles," or the dentist formerly known as Bethel Dental Associates. When I called, I got an appointment for the next day. I went in for my first checkup, and their office was easy to find: right next to Booth's Corner Farmer's Market. The place is huge. When I sat in the dentist chair, I told them about my dental anxiety and sensitive teeth, and how everyone who says they have sensitive teeth and dental anxiety are liars and are giving people like me a wussbag bad name. They started to do a cleaning and after 2 seconds I had hit the ceiling 3 times and they said, "Yep, you're a candidate for sedation dentistry." So they sent me home with some prescriptions to fill, and some stuff to read. They offer three levels of sedation: Level 1 is just plain ol' nitrous. That wasn't gonna do it for me. Level 2 is what I got: A crap-ton of pills (benzos, mostly), plus nitrous. Level 3 is "open heart surgery sedation" -- administered through an IV. They set me up with a 4-hour appointment to replace some crowns that had gone wrong, a widsom tooth extraction, and a simple cleaning. They also handed me 5 prescriptions: three for heavy-duty drugs (Valium, Ativan, and Vicodin), an antibiotic, and some funky prescription toothpaste. These guys are not screwing around. They take dental anxiety seriously. They told me to take the Valium the night before my appointment to so I'd be sure to sleep well (very thoughtful), and then I was to take the three Ativans in the office as soon as I sat down in the comfy dentist chair. As soon as they kicked in, they added a bonus helping of nitrous (Would you like mint or orange nitrous? I recommend the orange) and the next thing you know you're all done. My procedure took three hours (not counting the first hour for the drugs to kick in), and I swear it felt like 45 minutes. I remember bits and pieces, and they were all pleasant memories. They let me listen to my iPod-- I highly recommend listening to Air (soothing, groovy, hides the drill sounds nicely, etc). Today (which is the day after the procedure) I feel fine; my jaw muscles are a little sore-- this is to be expected considering I had someone's arm in there for 3+ hours; and the corners of my lips are a little raw (also to be expected, and nothing that some lip balm doesn't soothe). Dr. Slysh (my dentist) is fabulous, tells horribly punny jokes (which is charming and disarming). His staff is wonderful and warm, they handle all of the insurance crap, so all I have to worry about is mah teefs. I go back in two weeks to get my temporary crowns turned into the real deal, and sadly I will not need to be sedated. :-) [A Quick 2018 Update: Dr. Slysh has moved to one of their other locations, but Dr. Shalit rocks all the socks and I love him dearly.]

A detailed xray was necessary and was taken at a different practice. My husband brought the disc to this office and weeks went by. Regardless of how many times he spoke to the office manager, no follow up was done. Besides this, the office made us pay $243 in advance but would not explain why.(husband's coverage had hundreds of dollars still available for treatment) He went to another practice and had an excellent dentist who removed the tooth (told him that never should a second root canal be done on the same tooth!) We have been trying to get a refund for the money we paid, and keep getting told someone will get back to us. So far- crickets.
