I never thought I'd be writing a five star review for a funeral home, but here we are. If not for…read morethis business and their care and kindness, an extremely difficult time would have been impossible to bear. When it became evident that my mother was in her final days, we considered other funeral homes in the area, but despite the lack of reviews, the Wantagh Abbey has a stellar reputation for over 50 or 60 years, so we decided this would be the place to handle arrangements. My father had one request: that we also arrange for my grandmother who had passed 8 years ago, to finally come out of the basement and laid to rest (yes, you're reading correctly. Don't worry, she was cremated). We're admittedly a weird family when it comes to death and I can't tell you how 8 years had passed without figuring out a place for grandma, but with ashes you always have these grand plans for (illegal, don't worry we didn't do it) spreading in magical or important places. Or putting in a piece of jewelry. You get where I'm going with this. The problem was that we didn't have a cremation certificate for some reason, so while dealing with my mother's arrangements when she passed exactly one week later from our first planning visit, all kinds of hoops had to be jumped through and the Abbey went above and beyond to help us in this pursuit (it was not easy). I Doug, the Funeral Director, and his staff couldn't be more helpful and kind throughout the week of planning for my mom's wake, funeral (wish we would have just kept it all to here as the Catholic Church truly failed my mother with her funeral) and burial arrangements. They even recommended a five star florist (Numa's). Mom was laid out in the one large room (currently they only have one wake at a time). The space is not overbearing, rather almost comforting with plenty of types of seating from chairs to couches and loads of little tables, easels etc for photos and mementos. They assisted us with our USB for a photo stream and provided us with poster board for photo collages. What I also appreciated: no upselling to the Caddy caskets (or is that just done on TV? I think of Six Feet Under...) They show you all options and let you make your decision. We combed through the options and found the perfect rose gold casket for my rather glitter and glamour loving mother. Other stuff to know: They have a dedicated parking lot that's across the street. The other place in Wantagh we considered did not have off street parking. It's also literally a block walk from the Wantagh LIRR station. It's super convenient for your friends and family who wish to pay their respects. Thank you, Wantagh Abbey, for everything. I hope not to use you again for a long time, but it's comforting to know you're there in times of need.

Laid to rest was an acquaintances father, sturdy and gentlemanly the kind soul that he was, he left his earthly body at the celebratory age of ninty four. The man who received us was very fair and frail with the flaxen hair of a Nordic man, his mannerisms were well enough and spoke beautifully, more nobly than his job - assumingly not the owner As the parish priest spoke, I drifted back to the pillars defying the notion of any possibility of being called upon as if sitting in class, yet he did. Something about Star Wars, father and son, God the father and Jesus - I'm beginning to think that my desire to listen in most situations is rapidly eroding, even with men of the cloth. I'll need to address this sooner than later. Easy to locate off the Cross Island Pkwy upon exit as, as my buddies 2016 Mercedes-Benz S550 navigational system took us on a local, displeasing scenic route on our way to the wake. Waze it home partner. Barring the extreme heat inside, I found the funeral homes apoearance and staff to do well for the family in mourn.

Our funeral director, Joseph Camolli, was beyond helpful and professional; his attention to the details of an otherwise overwhelming process made for a truly memorable tribute. We are thankful to him, James and other staff members for their attentiveness and services including a thoughtfully selected addition to the casket. The facility was clean with a convenient, ample parking lot; easy accessible throughout for physically-challenged attendees. One suggestion would be an upgraded / stronger wifi/router signal as in these times streaming services will become the 'new-norm'. We would like to commend them for a job well done, from our first appointment to the burial. Rhona Mason-Fogah
