My family has chosen to use the services of a different funeral home due to distressing events in dealing with Jordan's. My father was a veteran and yet, with 12 days between his death and the funeral, there were no military honors afforded him at the time of the funeral even though we requested it. His cremains were presented to us at the time of the funeral in an urn. Three months later, Calverton National Cemetary notified us that the funeral director had dropped off an additional bag of ashes indicating that the cremains in the bag also belonged to my father. To say we were confused would be an understatement. We had the urn at home on my mother's mantle and now another bag of ashes purporting to be our father's. We reached out to the director, had meetings with him, and were refunded our money. But what still remains is how we could have over 12lbs of ashes from a 5'5", 145lb, 92yo man who died from bone cancer. Needless to say, while Jordan's refunded our money, no one ever helped us to resolve or answer the question of why there were 2 separate containers of ashes. And, who do they really belong to?

She handled our loved one's ashes with care and ensured we had everything we needed. As for the remaining staff there that day, a dark haired man, Roger or Rob, was very unkind towards my family and me when picking up our loved one's ashes. His demeanor and behavior towards us made an already sad experience worse. He was very cold and I was ready to write it off until there was a painfully noticeable difference in the engagement between my family and another woman who was there about a loved one as well. When you lose a loved one, you hope to be treated with kindness and compassion. While I can understand that everyone may not have the capacity to do so, given the line of business this is truly unacceptable. I hope that going forward, EVERYONE who walks through the doors of Macken Mortuary is met with the kindness and compassion they deserve.

Horrific experience…read more I accompanied a friend to pick up the remains of their spouse today and it was one of the worst encounters in recent memory. We walked in and were greeted by a man (without a mask) with a, "Hey, what's up, guys?". The casual and insensitive tone was a bit jarring but not a big deal. But the transactional nature of the process was. We were treated as if someone had accidentally dropped a delivery at the wrong address and we were mildly inconveniencing him by picking it up. When another friend asked the man to kindly put on a mask, he was told (not once but twice) that he was welcomed to wait outside. Due to great restraint, nothing else was said but my widower fried was clearly confused and distressed. Very quickly, another gentleman stepped in to finish the "transaction", which tells me this was not the first time this level of disrespect had happened. The whole wretched experience of picking up the remains of a loved one was made surreal by an insensitive and uncaring man who has clearly been doing this too long. I highly recommend trusting your loved ones and their families anywhere else.
