On the ticketing concourse, there are staffed and automated ticket vending machines and the usual ticketing contactless scanners at the turnstiles. De Brouckère metro station is named after a Belgian nobleman who was mayor of the city from 1848 until his death in 1860. According to the wiki, he was responsible for major urban renewal in the city, including the creation of water mains and the first boulevards in Brussels. The station is part of the run where Lines 1 and 5 overlap, between Sainte-Catherine and Brussels-Central stations.

Nor will you see him covered platforms. Nor will you be able to play the game 'is it the drains or has someone crapped themselves?' Nope you won't get any of these. You'll get shiny floors, escalators that are always working and a light airy feel to your wait for a train. Minus for being constantly closed whenever there is a European leaders summit. But still five stars!

Awful awful awful! I am not a fan of the Brussels métro. This station in particular! Poor planning,…read moreor they're trying to squeeze out as much money from Belgians and tourists as possible. It's a two platform station, and they aren't accessible to each other from inside the station. That means if you get on the wrong platform, and you've already paid your fare, you have to go back outside, go to the correct platform, and pay again. Ticket machines only take coins, not notes. So if all you have on you are Euro notes, or a non-EU credit card, you're screwed. Try doing that when you're pressed for time to get to the train station and you are scrambling to find coins and make your train.

Also there are tons of smokers around the tram stop that it might feel like you are the one smoking and not the people around you, I really think they need to have traffic lights here (similar to the UK) cause it's a death trap for motorists and pedestrians alike. Yet if I didn't have a car, around Montgomery would be my ideal rental because it is such a major transportation hub of Brussels and with buses, trams and trains, it would be a great location to base yourself from and be super quick to get anywhere else around Brussels that you need to go. So three stars bc of how bad amenities are but 4 stars bc location is great.

There is also a lack of shops, so no syrupy coffee to help you pass the boredom away. What really gets me is... when the escalators break down which seems to be at least once a week. It's gotta be the deepest metro station on the system, so you're buggered when you've walked up them. I'd soon go to the next station and walk back then climb bloody Everest to get out of the station. Nothing breaks down at lovely Schuman!
