If you enjoyed browsing or reading Bernard Roetzel's "Gentleman: A Timeless Fashion", or the more…read morephilosophical "Men's Style: The Thinking Man's Guide to Dress", you will enjoy visiting Rego Bespoke Clothiers, or Rego, located at 130 King Street West near the elevators of the Toronto Exchange Tower. It's a Toronto institution and a great alternative to the sterile, even if well-appointed, men's clothing shops in the city. At Rego, you may have the opportunity to be assisted by the owner, which makes for a more personal shopping experience. But you won't need any assistance in observing that everything in the store from the suits to the sports jackets, shirts, bags, scarves, hats, ties, trousers, jeans, shoes (and you should see some of the winter boots in stock) is of excellent quality. Whatever you choose will make the person wearing them impeccable and worthy of the essays on style cited in the books above and in the best Esquire and GQ articles (note style is not fashion, it's far more enduring and personal). The selection betrays a singular search for quality and sophisticated details and materials yet without fuss. The owner and the staff are happy to satisfy all customer requests while ensuring refinement and exclusivity. You will look elegant; yet you won't look like your colleagues and those walking past you in the downtown streets. People will wonder where you acquired your garments. The prices are moderately expensive (and the sales are excellent), but the garments that last over time and you never get tired of them. I can offer personal proof of this: I bought a Rego branded dress shirt in 1997. It still looks great now and I still wear it - on important occasions no less - now. It helps that I'm approximately the same size as I was 22 years ago. But, it helps even more that the materials and manufacturing were of the highest quality. Even the store itself is timeless. It's well-lit and welcoming; it is quite large yet intimate. There's everything from classic style or sportier clothing, featuring top brands like Corneliani among others. If there's a single overriding theme to the selection it is the ability to stand the test of time.

The "stylists" were friendly and seemed knowledgable. My wife and I spent about an hour looking through fabric and having my measurements taken, which overall was fun. My sone small criticism at this stage was I felt they prodded me a bit too much into upgrading from "custom" to "bespoke", despite the fact that I had already agreed to spend what I consider a lot of money. After we finalized all details, they told me it would take 6-8 weeks to make and arrive. Eeeee. That's longer than I wanted to wait...but fine, good things are often worth the wait. Four weeks later, I received a call and was told they haven't even started making the suit as they don't actually have the fabric I selected. They then (albeit gently) again suggested I upgrade to "bespoke" so I could get a similar fabric. I was frustrated at how long it took them to identify the issue, so I ultimately asked for a refund and they didn't fuss too much and reasonably promptly refunded my credit card today. To give them the benefit of the doubt, they very well may have been a "one off" kind of mess up, but I lost patience and am now in the market for a competitor.

I didn't want to go to any old traditional tailor as I want the modern designer fashion GQ look, this is what they specialize in. Staff is nice and very relaxed here. Lots of people seem to like getting their wedding suits here, I'm not ready for that yet but when the day comes I will surely trust my big day to the guys at Garrison. Highly recommend.

However, at $3.99 for an incredibly delicious, piping hot sausage dog, this was a steal. They had three versions available that day: beer bratwurst, brick lane chicken, and ginger beef. I asked which one they recommended. I was told they don't like recommending things, but that their most popular was beer bratwurst and they didn't have the ginger beef. I was trying to decide between brick lane chicken and ginger beef, so that basically took care of my dilemma for me. I got the brick lane chicken. It came with a chicken sausage I'm guessing was tikka masala spiced, apricot chutney, and fried onions. The sausage was juicy, the bun was soft, and the fried onions added a delightful crunch. I love street meat, but this takes the cake. If sausage dogs cost over $4 on the street and only have basic toppings, why would I get those when I can get this? I was so happy after having this that I texted my brother to let him know about it. He told me to bring one home for him. I would have, but I had half a day of food adventuring to go before I got home, and that poor dog would have been a mess by the time I got home. Oh well. That just means I have an excuse to come back, not that I need one... Did I mention there was NO lineup at lunchtime? Someone please explain to me why this place isn't super busy all the time. Cheap eat for sure, and a fantastic one at that!

However, we came to St Lawrence Market in search of specific items and pastured eggs was one of them. I was delighted to see that Sausage King sold them for $8 per dozen eggs. I suspect that these are not real pastured eggs here. The yolks were pale yellow and the overall taste was like a regular cheap egg from the grocery store. I would suggest the shop owner to check with their supplier as this is a turn off for their customers.

It finally fits properly based on my measurements. Working with Kunal was a better experience as well as he understands customer service and worked to remedy my situation. Overall, it's obviously impossible to completely fix what originally happened given that my suit didn't look great at my Wedding as well as the painful experience of working with my previous rep, Steve. However, as I previously mentioned, Steve is now gone. If you are working with Kunal on a suit you should have a good experience as he is professional and delivers a good product.

After spending well over $10,000 and more than a year dealing with The London Bespoke Club and…read moreKunal Arora, I can confidently say this has been one of the worst luxury service experiences I've ever had. I ordered multiple garments including two suits, shirts, sport jackets and a custom overcoat. Almost every order was significantly delayed beyond the promised timeline. Delivery dates repeatedly came and went, follow ups were required constantly, calls and messages often went unanswered and communication was consistently unreliable. The overcoat situation was the final straw. The order was placed in October with a promised delivery timeline of late November. It ultimately took roughly six months to complete, during that time there were repeated assurances, changing explanations, missed commitments and long periods with little to no communication. I eventually had to go through a credit card dispute process over the deposit multiple times to have them deliver my garments. What makes this especially frustrating is that this is positioned and priced as a premium bespoke experience! At this price point clients expect professionalism, accountability, transparency and respect for timelines. Unfortunately that was not my experience here. The craftsmanship may be good but the overall customer experience completely destroyed any enjoyment of ordering bespoke clothing. Reliability and honesty matters just as much as fabric and fit, if not more. For the prices being charged, there are many better tailoring options in Yorkville and Toronto that communicate properly, respect their clients' time and deliver when they say they will. Based on my personal experience, losing money, and never having one of the shirt delivered, I would strongly caution anyone considering ordering from here to think very carefully before committing.

We learned that Sydney's is proudly Canadian, where most items sold in shop are Canadian made. The merchandising in the store is perfect - well laid out, not overwhelming with excessive bells and whistles with an old antique feel. Professionalism is usually top on my list when I walk into a high-end store and this shop exceeded my expectations. The staff were not only exceptionally knowledgable about their products, but they were all friendly and happy to help without at all feeling pushy which is a rare combination. And to top it off, we got to meet the owner in house. You could tell immediately that Sydney is down-to-earth and takes pride in his brand and wants his clients to leave happy and well dressed. I must point out that this is not an alteration service where one brings their pants to be taken up an inch. This is a true Bespoke tailor shop where you will receive a personalized consultation with the tailor who will be cutting the cloth you choose, hanging your sleeves, and fitting you in your new suit at the end. The shop features glass work that the proprietor has had commissioned from students in the arts at Ryerson - one way in which he contributes back to the community, custom made iron work around the windows from local craftsmen and women, not to mention his own paintings, sculptures, and murals that demonstrate his varied artistic talents and usually incorporate a captivating blend of contrast and texture regardless of the medium. Don's passion for art and eye for fashion is carried into every garment that he makes. I have trusted Don to choose materials and patterns for me in a very consultative manner, giving him free artistic licence on the finished product, and I have never been let down. I love the way I feel in my suits from Trend. They fit perfectly. It is also nice to get frequent compliments on my shirts and suits. I'm often asked where I bought my shirts and suits, which is a great compliment to Trend's finished product. I'm pretty shocked to have come across such polarized opinions of this business on Yelp. What does NOT shock me is that both negative reviewers share something in common: a total of one review each on Yelp. I would disregard them. If you're looking for a fantastic bespoke suit, my advice is that you make an appointment with Trend and go see for yourself what all the hype is about. You will not be disappointed.
