There is a small walk in humidor with some really good sticks at very reasonable prices. Actually, everything I got here was reasonably priced. It's easy to miss this place, being a gas station convenience store, but it's definitely a cut above the rest.

We were accidentally stranded at the Mystic train station, and the station was closed. Luckily,…read moreHenny Penny was right there. We had been planning to enjoy dinner on the train, but alas we were at the WRONG train station. We were supposed to be in New London. I ended up calling Amtrak and then Lyft. We picked up some rather anemic turkey sandwiches. When opened, it turned out that they cleverly packed the middle of the sandwich to look like there was more turkey than the two or so slices that you actually received. The edges of the sandwich were almost devoid of turkey. The food selection is your basic convenience-store offerings: a few sandwiches, burritos, chips, candy, soda, and coffee. The attendant was friendly, and the store was clean. While I can't recommend the turkey sandwiches, we were glad that Henny Penny was so convenient. If there hadn't been hanky-panky with the turkey sandwiches, I would have given them four stars. To be fair, though, that's the first sandwich I have ever bought at a convenience store. So maybe it's typical.

We wandered right up to the fridge to see the wines they already had chilled. After just a few seconds of staring up at the fridge with big wide eyes, a very helpful employee walked up and offered to help us. For the next few minutes, she described so many wines well that we wanted them all - but ultimately chose two that would fit in our wine bag. They also had bags of ice (which we needed for our wine bag) and a full liquor store selection (my husband picked up a bottle of bourbon after finding one that he couldn't live without). Our wines were wonderful (one kinda funky orange and one great pet nat), and the service was great as well. A wonderful shop for wine and other booze in Mystic!

The selection is on the…read moresmaller side, which can be both a strength and a drawback -- it's easy to navigate and find what you need quickly, but sometimes you wish there were a few more options on the shelves. Where McQuade's really shines is the produce. Fresh, vibrant, and consistently high quality, it's clear they put real care into what they bring in. It's one of the main reasons I keep coming back. The only thing holding this place back from a full five stars is the pricing. While the quality is there, the higher costs make regular shopping feel a bit steep. Still, for great produce and a clean, easy-to-shop market, McQuade's is a dependable choice. Cheers

It's a well-maintained and fully stocked Grocery Store, there's the usual floral department, but it's the Deli, seafood, and bakery that are the Stars of show. The quality, variety and diversity of the products they have is impressive. It reminds me of the old Balducci's in the Village (NYC). Employees, who knew their products, could explain to you what it was, give you recipes, and who knew a happy customer returns over and over again. If you want quality, you sometimes have to pay a little more for it. It's called value for your money. Everything in the cases makes you want to take one of each; even though you know you can't possibly eat it all in one sitting and there's only so much room in your freezer refrigerator!

Windjammer Wine & Spirits is a decent local package store that fills a useful niche in the area…read more The standout feature here is easily the wine selection--it's surprisingly broad for a smaller shop, with a range that covers everyday bottles, reliable mid‑tier picks, and a few interesting finds you don't always see in neighborhood stores. If you're a wine shopper, this is probably one of the better stops around. The rest of the experience, though, lands squarely in the middle. The staffing is pretty "meh"--not rude, just not particularly engaged or enthusiastic. You can get what you need, but you're not likely to get recommendations, conversation, or that warm, local‑shop feel that makes a place memorable. Pricing is so‑so as well. Nothing outrageous, but nothing that makes you feel like you're getting a great deal either. It's the kind of store where you grab what you need because it's convenient, not because it's the best value in town. Overall, Windjammer is a solid 3‑star stop: reliable, convenient, and especially strong for wine, but with room to improve in service and pricing. A decent local option that could easily shine brighter with a little more attention to the customer experience. Cheers
