At the meeting point of King and Calhoun Streets, the tourists and residents in Downtown Charleston…read moremeet an essential business . That includes this tourist, who was vacationing nearby at the Downtown Embassy Suites. Regardless that Downtown Charleston is charming and rich in history, there are very few businesses catering to the essentials. They are Target, CVS, and Walgreens. When I shopped here it was with an appreciation of the essential goods that Walgreens sells. Right off the bat that is a souvenir. There are very limited places in Downtown to buy Charleston souvenirs. For the record, they were missing in action at Target. Without Walgreens I have some doubt that I would remember Charleston with a T-shirt and magnet. Sold at reasonable prices. The essential store came through for my brother and dad. Browsing the aisles I saw the standard grocery and general merchandise that the typical Walgreens sells. Fortunately I did not need the pharmacy services. Nor did I need alcohol thanks to the Embassy Suites Manager's Reception. The checkout process ran smoothly. There is a single cue that leads to checkout stations. In addition to selling essential goods this business retains the historic charm of Downtown Charleston. Although it is modern inside, it preserves the historic exterior of the former Millennium Music Building. My one complaint is that the pharmacy operates on limited hours. They operate Monday to Friday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM meal break. On weekends the pharmacy is closed. Emergencies and illnesses can occur on the weekend. In conclusion I give the Downtown Charleston Walgreens four stars. I appreciate the essential goods and pharmacy that it provides to the local residents and tourists.

I had to close the package and place the tag myself which is something I do not mind but at least give instructions instead of acting with displeasure and the sense that I don't know what I am doing. Most of us do not send packages daily and every place likes the label somewhere else. Then, I asked the employee where do I place the package because he was not going to do that for sure, he gave me instructions and when I go to the corner I was instructed to go to, now the other employee at this Walgreens gets rattled and asks what am I doing. I said: " I am placing my package as instructed by the other Walgreens employee." These employees a Walgreens employees and it is obvious that FedEx is not part of them and that it is an annoyance so they do not provide customer service. I much rather go to the UPS store than deal with FedEx.

While pharmacy visits can often be a source of stress, the team at this location consistently goes above and beyond to make the experience seamless. The Pharmacy Experience The pharmacy staff here are the true stars. Even during peak hours, they remain professional, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. I've had several instances where my insurance had a hiccup or a prescription needed a quick clarification from my doctor, and the pharmacists worked tirelessly to resolve it while I waited. Drive-Thru Efficiency: The drive-thru window is a lifesaver for parents with kids in the car or when you're just not feeling well. They move the line quickly without making you feel rushed. Proactive Communication: The text alerts for refills are always accurate, and I rarely ever find that my medication isn't ready when they say it will be. Store Layout & Essentials Beyond the pharmacy, the retail side is always clean and exceptionally organized. One-Stop Shop: It's my go-to for high-quality beauty supplies, seasonal decor, and those last-minute "forgotten" grocery items like milk or eggs. Photo Department: I've used their photo lab for everything from passport photos to holiday cards, and the quality is consistently high with a very fast turnaround time. FedEx Convenience: Having the FedEx Drop-off and Pickup here is a huge bonus. You can print labels from a QR code and drop off packages while you're already running errands. Customer Service What really sets this location apart is the "small-town" feel in a busy area. The front-end staff usually recognizes regulars and always greets you with a smile. It's clear that management prioritizes customer care, which makes a big difference in the overall vibe of the store. Pro Tips for This Location Pharmacy Lunch Break: Just a reminder that the pharmacy usually closes for a meal break (typically 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM), so plan your pickup around that! Walgreens App: Use the app to "clip" coupons before you go--I've saved a ton on vitamins and household cleaners just by scanning my phone at checkout.
