Nola's Bar & Grill: Good Food, Strong Drinks & ALL the NOLA Bounce!…read more We decided to check out Nola's Bar & Grill on Highway 6 after seeing it pop up on TikTok. It's a newer spot that's open 24 hours i believe, so we stopped in for a late lunch to see what the hype was about. Parking: The parking lot is a decent size and, thankfully, parking is FREE! However, I could see parking becoming a challenge once the restaurant is packed. First impressions: We weren't immediately greeted when we walked in. We stood around for about a minute and a half before someone finally told us we could choose our own seats. Our table wasn't clean when we sat down, but our waitress cleaned it immediately, so no major issue there. The vibe: If you like New Orleans bounce, you're going to LOVE the music! We bounced our way through the entire meal. I personally love NOLA bounce, so I was in my element. If that's not your type of music, this might not be your spot. And yes...at one point they had us bouncing to Christmas music. Sir, it's September! The aesthetics could definitely use some TLC. There's some work to be done to make the space feel more polished, but since they're new, I'm giving them some grace. ‍ Service: Our waitress was working HARD. You could tell she was stretched pretty thin trying to take care of all the tables while several people were behind the bar. Another waitress eventually came out to help, but I definitely felt like our waitress could have used some additional support sooner. DRINKS: They had drink specials, including $5 Hand Grenades and margaritas. You already know I love a good drink special! I ordered the Hand Grenades, and BABY...THESE WERE STRONG! I had two and they definitely put me to sleep when I got home. So no complaints on the drinks! FOOD: Seafood Spinach Dip -- 10/10 THIS was the star of the show for me! The dip had crab, shrimp and crawfish, and it was absolutely delicious. I got so full from the appetizer that I barely needed anything else. I would 100% order this again. Al also ordered the oysters, which had a similar seafood mixture on top. She thought they were pretty good but felt like there was more seafood dip than oyster. Still, she enjoyed them. Ya-ka-mein: Neither of us had tried ya-ka-mein before, so we decided to split it. Al thought it was too salty, while I thought it was pretty good. For me, though, this is one of those dishes that belongs in the same category as chili and gumbo--it just feels like something I'd want when it's cold outside rather than on a warm September afternoon. We were also told that the wings are excellent and the fish is really good, so those are definitely on my list for a future visit. The one thing that stood out to me: I believe the owner was there during our visit. I've seen him in several of their tik toks, and he was going back and forth between the restaurant and the kitchen, which is located next door. As a new restaurant, I actually love seeing an owner present. Greeting customers, checking on tables and asking how people are enjoying their experience can make such a difference. Toward the end of our visit, I saw him walking toward our table and thought, "Ohhh, he's about to come check on us!" Nope. He simply asked if we were finished with our menus, grabbed them and walked away. No "How are y'all doing?" No "How was the food?" No "How was your experience?" Nothing. And maybe I'm just a little bougie when it comes to customer service , but those little touches matter to me. They're often what turn a restaurant visit into an experience people remember. MY TAKE Food: Drinks: Music: Service: Needs some work Atmosphere: Has potential Overall: A new restaurant with room to grow Would I go back? Maybe. The food was good. The drinks were definitely good. And I personally loved the music. But there are still some things that need attention--especially staffing, customer service and the overall aesthetics. That said, they're new, so I'm willing to give them some grace and see how things evolve. And if it's late at night, I'm hungry, everything else is closed and Nola's is still open 24 hours? I'd definitely pull up for some good food. We shall see what the next visit brings!

How do you start a Good Friday? By stopping at Fusion 59. I must say this has been a surprising…read moreexperience to where I would highly recommend you try this location when in town. Let's start with the ambiance it is definitely a date night/girls night option. The lights are dimmed and they have a slow to moderately fast tempo music playing quietly in the background. So for me I really appreciate that because you can actually have a decent conversation without yelling/shouting over the music. As for the food! I would say there's room for improvement. The samosa were definitely seasoned well both the chicken and the vegetables. I have no complaints. For the jerk chicken, I wasn't really a fan because I felt it wasn't really "jerk" as what I am used to when going to a Jamaica restaurant, however, I still would recommend it during happy hour. P.s happy hours is from 4-7pm so definitely get there before then. Now let's talk about the lamb chops. First I had it medium-rare and with no complaints it came out to right temperature. For the pasta, however, I really feel they could do a major improvement because it was very bland but I feel the lamb and veggies which were (zucchini and squash) made up for it. Dannie the bartender was on point with our service request. Our first round of drinks were the re/detox and the pleasure island and our second round of drinks were the sexy chocolate and the pleasure island once again. Hands down Dannie did such a great job with mixing our drinks. I highly recommend trying this location during happy hours or just in general for a date night. Oh and I forgot to mention they do offer hookah as well but you would have to smoke it in their outside enclosed patio which is very cute and chic.

This night I went with one of my close sorority sisters and ended up smoking hookah with her. This location was dark and very easy on the eyes. It showcased a heavy middle eastern influence since hookah is heavy there. The variety of options are given in a menu style and allow you to pick whatever fits your needs at the time. You are also able to freely smoke as long as you would like with the occasional waiter coming to replace the coals on your hookah. They also hire their DJs every night, so the music can change and control the mood depending on what is played. The do played a variety of music from hip hop to r&b and pop, there was no shortage on the tunes just know that they will change. The downside of this place is the smoke, if you're asthmatic or have trouble seeing this place might pose a couple of risk to you. You might have trouble breathing or being able to see the ground as you walk into the puff clouds of other patrons. There is also a mixture of patrons, some there to enjoy themselves and others to have parties and fun, if you're set on a flat consistent vibe then this may not be a place, there was someone on a couch enjoying their entire life while we were there, luckily we didn't care how they did anything it didn't interfere with us. Risk was also a major thing to be mindful of, the coals can be extremely hot and give damaging burns, people can also get sick from the hookah so be careful of the health risk and also use caution around the hookah to avoid coals! Overall a good place, if you're in Houston definitely stop by and have a good time.

Walking in, the decor reminded me of the pub in our hotel in Dublin. It was clean, and nothing very worn or damaged. Very clean, cleaner than I expected a tavern to be. The menu didn't have everything that we had seen when viewing online (here), but it had the things hubby was wanting to try so that's all that mattered, and not the first restaurant to switch up menus. Less options for my vegetarian needs than I expected but I got a couple of sides which were very good and a wedge salad which was tasty. It may sound weird but I often judge restaurants based upon their salad ... I mean if they serve me wilted lettuce and questionable toppings, why would I want anything else from them? This was great, super fresh ingredients without the lettuce being watery which is another said pet peeve. Husband tried both the fish and chips and shepherds pie (which he took to go). Fish was fried to perfection, crisp and he said very tasty. He said the pie was great as well. Our server was working the entire front of house, waiting and bartending, and several other tables filled up as we were eating and she handled it flawlessly, and said it was only her third day. She's a keeper (but please get her some help lol). I think likely only one person in the kitchen as well, but didn't impact the food quality or how quickly it was delivered, so overall I was very impressed with the team. Darts, pool, music and trivia rounded everything out. I highly recommend this spot, I think you'll like the food, the drinks, the team and the vibe.
