Made an appointment here for my dog because he hurt his tooth- saw blood on a snack and now he's whimpering when eating. They charged me $395 and did not look at his teeth or discuss his potential injury/ pain with me. They told me they don't do that at their office- wish I knew that when I made the appointment. I called a week ago because of the blood/ potential tooth injury. It looks like one of his teeth cracked in half/ it's clearly cracked off. He was recently adopted from the shelter, so I also needed to establish vet care. I explained this on the phone. We went today and I reviewed with the vet tech that the primary concern is his teeth. She was aware of this as she had been given the concern list (made via the phone call) from reception. Other concerns were minor- getting up to date on vaccines & he's been chewing at his paws. The vet came in and asked that my dog be put on the table and immediately started listening to his heart with her stethoscope. My dog is a very mellow, gentle boy, but due to abusive past, he is scared of objects coming at him. He won't even eat peanut butter off a spoon cuz he's scared of spoons. The vet didn't even greet my dog/ let him sniff her, just told the tech to put him in a choke hold and started poking at him. He was scared and cried out a little. I tried to tell him it was ok and the vet scolded me and told me to firmly tell him "no" and not coddle him when he cries out. I'm glad that he expresses when he is nervous and he usually just needs a little reassurance- her method is how dogs bite "out of no where" when you tell them they are bad for communicating their discomfort. (I didn't stop the exam, I just spoke to him in a soothing voice and stood where he could see me.) She then lifted his cheek and barely glanced at his teeth. She maybe saw 3 back teeth from the side- the broken tooth is in the front. She stated he needed a teeth cleaning (I know and wanted to get that scheduled today.) She then said he was gaining weight because I have him on a grain free diet (no advice about how much I should be feeding him or any food recommendations). I tried to start a discussion around his diet and tried to explain why I chose the food he was on. I said "I've read the studies, but it seems that the main problem is replacing grains with legumes." She cut me off and only said "anyone can write anything on the internet." She then left the room with my dog to give him vaccines, but I wasn't really sure what was happening. The tech came back with the cost breakdown. This seemed standard and I signed. I had provided them with his vaccine paperwork, but they still gave his extra vaccines he wasn't due for yet. Then a new tech brought me my dog and told me they would be giving me his heartworm to take home and we would be all set to go. I asked if the vet would be coming back as we didn't really discuss any of the things that I came in to discuss- not his mouth injury or even his general health/ wellness. The tech told me that the vet didn't really talk to people. I asked if there was another vet or if the vet could come talk to me since I still had questions/ concerns. They said I could come another day, but the vet refused to come back into the room to speak with me anymore and that she had "moved on to other patients for the day." I had 2 employees tell me that there are other vets at the office I could request to see next time and it would be understandable- this seems to be a common problem with this vet (Briar Cunningham). The office manager said I could discuss my concerns or have a vet tech perform an exam on my dog, but I would still be charged in full as the vet "did perform an exam." (I stated I did not want to pay the $55 vet exam if the vet would not examine my dog for the problem we booked this appointment for.) She also said that they didn't know I was coming in cuz of my dogs teeth and they don't do that at their office and would give me a referral to their other location. I left crying and my dog is still in pain. Now dog has to wait another 2 weeks for appt at Morgan vet. read more

This place doesn't care if your animal needs help. They won't even come to your farm unless you pay a ridiculous fee over the phone. Get your credit card out because it's all about the money. Don't waste your time with these people. read more

Wonderful staff, good prices, very happy with the treatment my dogs got. They got me in right away.

Took my beloved dog in because she had a large abscess that appeared in one day. Did blood work, no biopsy, put in a drain tube, that stuck out of her body at the top and would never drain anything, gave me a prescription for antibiotic pills and some salve , said it wasn't cancer but didn't have any idea what it was. Charged over $700 and that was with my military discount. Second abscess appeared and I bought refills on the medicine. When third abscess appeared I had to have her put down. Wouldn't eat, couldn't get in my car. Charged me over $200 for two shots and 10 minutes listening to her heart until it stopped. I feel they are into money only and not caring about our animals. Will not go there again. Review says I am from San Francisco, I'm from Coos Bay, not sure how to change that read more

We moved here from Texas. I had my black Arabian stallion run away and tried to jump what appeared to him to be a blackberry hedge. It was blackberries overgrowing a 10' deep ravine. We cut away the blackberries to find him lying in a creek bed unable to get up. New to the area, I called Myrtle Point Veterinary Hospital to ask a vet to come out. This was during business hours. They refused. They left my horse to die in a ditch. I am a nurse. Medical people will go anywhere, anytime to help the injured and sick. Apparently, veterinary medicine is no longer like that. A year and a half later I called them to make an appointment to get my dog a rabies shot. The bill would have been $65.00. In Texas vets hold low cost vaccination clinics and I was shocked at the cost. I was told that other vets in the area are not taking new patients. This is not true. Shamed me during my visit for not having all the dog Vax. Really dirty exam room with grime all along the baseboard. Scared to leave this comment 8n this vicious catholic community for my dogs safety. We're tough though, and he had his first round of shots and rabies Vax. I have had the worst experience dealing with the front desk and office staff here. There has been numerous mistakes concerning needed medications and payments. Training is definitely needed. I wouldn't recommend this office. read more

We've been bringing our cats, dog, rabbits and goats to the capable hands of the affable staff at the Myrtle Veterinary Hospital for several years now and have never had a single complaint. The cost of treatment is very reasonable and the level of care top notch. The well being of their patients is definitely the priority here and I always feel confident that my animals are getting great care. read more

I have been using Myrtle Vet Hospital for over 2 years. At first they were very good. But the past few months have gone down hill. First I took my dog in for her vaccines. They charge for the syringe to administer the vaccine. Are we suppose to bring our own now? I can buy one at Currydale for less than I was charged! They are starting to nickle and dime me, for lack of another expression. The one that made us change to another vet was, I needed to get my dog in right away. She had blood in her urine. In order to get her in that day, I had to pay a $95.00 fee along with the the clinic visit. You should be able to get your pet that is a regular client in with out having to pay the $95. The other thing was I have 2 horses. They have been seen by the vet there before. I needed to get some Banamine for my horses to have on hand in case of colic. They couldn't give me this until they saw my horses. It is VERY expensive to have them come out to Bandon. I feel it is more important to them to not sell me the Banamine and let my horses suffer so they can get a house call fee, than to just sell me the Banamine to have just to keep my horses safe until someone could get to my house. I also need another Dormosedan Gel so that I can have my horses feet trimmed in a safe manner for them and my trimmer. Again, I can't get this unless they see my horses. I won't be using them again. I don't know what is going on with this Hospital. I really like Dr Amy, and I will miss her kind and caring way she took care of my dog, but we won't be going back. read more

Yes, the problem is the Business Mgmt personnel, who I think is now the owner. Dr's are very agreeable and competent, but processes are wrong, including roles that office staff are performing instead of Drs- Ordering tests, etc. I've experienced many mistakes and am now looking elsewhere. They are the only show in town, otherwise would be in bad shape. read more

Myrtle vet is all about the money no heart every visit has costed me at least five hundred and one visit was just to euthanize my horse now I know what it cost for a bottle of euthasol she was double dipping with her charges she charged me for her time and her time for travel and the mileage and a house all visits along with a technician fee which there was no technician I thought harbor lights was bad but myrtle vet hospital is getting so much worse no wonder Dr odonnell is full all the time he is so much better then the rest at least he still has a heart I absolutely do not recommend going there and after reading the other reviews not many people do recommend them read more

Don't go! I took my little doggie there yesterday, which was Sunday so expected it to be more expensive, but it was $450, just to get looked at. No blood work, no x-rays... nothing. It was awful. I ended up having to take my doggie to a Vet today... which was less than $40. So if you have to go to a Vet on a weekend don't go to Myrtle Veterinary hospital. read more
