But you can also find some really cool stuff that you just wouldn't see anywhere else. As the name suggests, this is not high fashion, and the store reflects that. The venue is underground and very little has been done in the way of decorating. It is not a place for the claustrophobic shopper. However, prices are cheap, there is a lot to choose from and the owners have never judged me for buying 16 pairs of bed socks at once.

Their prices are great, most pieces under $40, and there is a decent range of sizes, even though on first entry you assume they'll all be tiny, judging by the two petite girls running the store. There is a lot of eighties high-fashion moments in here - showy, outrageous prints and puffs. This kinda makes sense in North Adelaide - an old money sorta suburb. Prices are not super cheap but not unreasonable - good sales make it affordable. Yesterday when I stopped by there was a 50% off sale on and a big sale rack out the front. This store is great fun if you - like me - love the stunningly hideous in fashion. Leopard prints, puffed sleeves, pink zebra sweaters and eighties party frocks in lurid shades.

It's a small shop, but it's organised by size and style so you can navigate the jam-packed racks with ease. The older lady behind the counter is always helpful as well. Prices aren't majorly bargainous, but they often have 50% off everything sales to clear out the old and make space for the new. While I'm generally more of a minimalist, you can find the occasional interesting piece or accessory in here. Definitely worth a look.

Despite being located across the road from their fashion competitors TuYu, Nina Stephanie does a good trade and there is always customers in the store having a browse. They stock labels such as Bluejuice, Paradisco, Angel Biba and Sweetacacia and have a great range of casual and formal wear. The store is spacious and clean and everything is laid out well so it can be easily perused. There are a couple of large change rooms (I hate pokey ones) and the staff are helpful if you need any assistance. They also have a permanent sale rack where items are alternated and they are actually not all junk like most sale racks are; it is a good first port of call to look for a bargain. Most dresses are around $60-90 mark.

A wide selection of DVD's are available categorised for every fetish (I'll let you use your imagination here). The quality is great, but the prices are steep. $50 per DVD or $25 if you trade in. I'll start by saying that a business called "Whistles" is going to receive 5-stars simply because of the fact that I am a testosterone-filled male. But good heavens, this small shop racks up the sexiest dresses that are priced from $389 (for an amazing blue dress) to over $1000 for the most expensive black dress at the front (whattup beautiful girl....how you doin'?) ... shall I go on? There is usually one left for the best grabs...but if you are lucky enough to find it you'll be the envy of all customers for those precious, precious dresses (more than couple will ask you, "Where did you get that fine dress of yours that you're wearing?! Geez!"). Basically, apart from Rundle Street, Regent Arcade is another place full of "simply the best, better than all the rest!" fashion. Plus, the -sophisticated speaking staff are helpful, attentive and will not snob you off, topping off one of the best days I've ever had, largely thanks to the many beautiful Adelaide women I have seen previously today. So. So Sexy. Yes.

My desires were satisfied last year when this treasure trove of trinkets and colourful fashions and accessories sunk its roots into Adelaide's Rundle Mall. Whilst the window suggests it makes a largely hippy clientele happy, most who step beneath the boughs of the Tree of Life leave just as contented as any wood nymph. One of the sections you really can't appreciate until you're in the store is the fine jewellery located on the western side of the store. There are beautiful pieces of jewellery here, designed to give as gifts for those special occasions or a delightful self-treat. The reduced section is to the back left of the store, and always has unbelievable bargains. I got a Jimmy Hendrix-like orange velvet jacket from this section for $20. The staff are also really nice, helpful and vibrant. When friends had bought gifts from here that didn't really suit, returning the items with receipt was easy, and I snaffled home a beautiful marcasite set of earrings and ring instead.

The second shop assistant lady was much more helpful but when she told me, "All the clothes here are made in India because of fair trade," I didn't know how to respond. What the heck do you mean? What are you trying to say here? Was she on some "Third World makes these-First World wears these" power trip? I dunno. ...If only I could work out the meaning behind her words. In actual fact, when she starts our conversation by saying "All the clothes here are made in India because of fair trade," in my head, I was thinking: "....is the fair trade bit of your sentence really relevant to what I need right now? I'm not here to learn about International Politics. Damn it, I just need a nice blue dress with matching blue jewellery for my female friend for Xmas!" Worst, she pulled out several dresses and jewellery pieces that weren't even blue. I specifically asked for blue, young lady. Thus any women's clothing store where I am not being listened to, and pieces are pulled out in such a haphazard manner and not really matching what I want, I knew it's gonna be a looooong day inside this shop. From the outside, this store is so unnoticeable because of it's black sign, but once you walk around inside, there are plenty of Indian "Bollywood-like" clothing and jewellery designs. Most of the customers here are....(yep, you guessed it) Australian women. Nevertheless, the second shop assistant did not abandon me and although she took a long time, she did not lead me astray! We finally found a nice blue dress for $40 and matching blue necklace = a very affordable winner. If you want to feel like a Bollywood Actress in Adelaide, this is the store to go to for conversion.

Formerly Punch Menswear, Calibre has revamped the once unnecessarily large interior and added a…read moretouch of sophistication. Whilst very similar in style to its predecessor, Calibre offers styles for both casual and professional looks. Obviously the extra money that designer labels are able to put in makes a considerable difference - but the transformation of this shop is simply incredible. The decor is sleek, and the management seems a lot more streamlined. The clothing is expectedly a little pricey. I'm not the kind of guy that would regularly spend an average of $150 on a button-down shirt, but that's just me. However, I do think that the prices are a reasonable reflection of the design and quality that goes into the clothing, as most of the clothing here looks pretty sharp. The suits are also much classier than anything you'd find at discount menswear stores, so if you're considering spending big on a nice suit, Calibre is worth checking out. Alex, the manager of the Rundle Street branch, is also a super friendly guy and good to have a chat with, and he won't hesitate to give you a hand whilst you're browsing.

I was informed that most of the One Day In Paradise label will be stocked in Adelaide, whereas most of the Visage 'n' Vice stuff will be in Melbourne (though of course items can be ordered from either store). Here, one half is goth/alternative clothing by such labels as Dragon's Blood (we miss them!), Gallery Serpentine and PurPur, with the other half of the shop dedicated to Australian Lolita label One Day In Paradise. I purchased a pair of cute ODIP mary jane shoes, and the service was excellent - very helpful without being annoying (which is a fine art :P). This is a teensy tiny shop (but has a large lush fitting room!), but they have crammed a lot of stuff in here - jewellery, hair clips, makeup, stockings, etc. I really hope it sticks around, as I'm looking forward to what else they end up stocking (the girl mentioned T.U.K. shoes and New Rocks - woah there!). I will definitely be back!

This is Nicole Ritchie's retro inspired jewellery collection that has a cool edge to it (fun fact: I had a passer by moment in LA with the lass when she was knocked up with her first kiddy). It's ridiculously expensive for non-precious metal, but considering it's modern vintage it's not really going out of fashion anytime soon, see it as an investment. In a nutshell - exclusive brands!

They have a couple of different stores around Adelaide, and this is their smallest, and as well as the usual pieces from higher end labels, this one seems to have a slightly larger selection of local and lower priced pieces than the other stores. Oh, and lots of sass + bide jeans! I'm picky when it comes to clothes but pretty much every time I come in here I see something I want to take home and wear (...and sometimes I can even afford to!)
