I've visited twice within the past month -- once on a chilly weekend day to explore all the sights, and again this past weekend for Neon Night. The museum itself is pretty dense with exhibits. The Power of Poison exhibit was very well thought out and loaded with details and visuals. You could easily spend an hour in there. I enjoyed the Boost exhibit the most, as it was hands on. I don't have kids, so I can't speak for the kids-focused activities, but I did enjoy the reptile room quite a bit too -- especially the "search" for certain creatures in their tanks. Neon Night was well done and attended by seemingly half of the city. I kept running into people I knew. I'd definitely attend one of their after-hours events again in the future. At $25, admission was reasonable. Drinks were also cheap. A cup of wine was just shy of $7. I was shocked that the dome show was narrated, as I was expecting it to be more of a movie vibe. I do wish they'd add a coat check. It's nice they have a parking lot adjacent to their building, but it's still a decently long walk when it's 20 degrees outside.

I decided to take my mom to a dome show on a whim and was a little underwhelmed. I wasn't expecting it to be "live" and narrated by a person. I was expecting a recorded show. A movie, I guess. Documentary. The live part allows you to interact, which the kids seem to enjoy. But to me, that felt unorganized and not what I was there for. I know now, and will change my expectations. Maybe there are other "movies." I also didn't like how the navigation into the auditorium leads you to the bottom--the worst seating. It should lead you to the top where the best seating is. We didn't do the full monty and see the exhibits. Definitely would like to return to take it all in.

It's been over a decade since we last visited...and it felt as if I visited it the first time. So many new additions, it seems? I was especially interested in seeing the parts of the museum featuring the Dinosaurs and the Human Evolution...as I recently saw series on Netflix and PBS. The exhibits on both were phenomenal. I won't go into too much details since everything has been written and then some by other Yelpers...but all I can say is that this should be part of each and every DC trip. It's definitely one of the more popular (bustling!) Smithsonian museums...and with good reason! It's truly a treat to see this and other amazing exhibits and art works at these Smithsonian museums...and all for free!

The Museum is a relatively small building on the street (with exhibits primarily on one floor), with Wilson's birthplace in a home a few doors down. Despite the small size, the exhibits did a decent job of highlighting some of the positives (League of Nations, less dependence on tariffs for government income, workmen's compensation, among others) and negatives (the guy was, shall we say, not supportive of integration when it came to African Americans). We spent about an hour in the Museum, including a few minutes in the WWI trench exhibit in the basement. All very interesting, well presented, and easy to understand. The highlight of our time was the docent-led tour of the Wilson home. Although Wilson lived in the home only for his first 18 months, the docent told a number of stories about Wilson's parents, Wilson's life there and later and it was a fascinating almost-hour time touring the building, asking questions and hearing the history.

Since I'm a history buff, I have been meaning to visit this Presidential Library. It's not a large…read moremuseum but very informative. I recommend taking the guided tour of Wilson's boyhood home and then visiting the museum. It's located in a residential neighborhood next to Mary Baldwin college. The exterior is fabulous! The cream and rust colored paint, the tree trunk columns, the wrought iron- all add the the charm and allure of this post office, which used to be a general store. I love when government post offices are unique and have so much character! Inside is an incredible museum of the post office, with antiques, old photos, and lots of wood and brass fixtures, even a wood stove! Cameron, the postmaster, was kind enough to give us a mini history of the area and welcomed us like we were old friends! They sold the elephant stamps which I hadn't seen before! Immediately upon my arrival just before noon on a Saturday in early april, I wished that I'd arrived closer to the opening hour as the main parking lot was packed and I ended up about a 5 minute brisk walk to the visitors center. Since I travel 81 somewhat frequently, I purchased an annual pass which cost $30. Be advised that there is considerable walking necessary, a total of 2 miles according to my walking app and fitness tracker, and not all is level.i enjoyed all of the exhibits, some of which were oridinal (from England) and were reassembled here. There was a demonstration on making stew in early England as well as nail making. Ireland and Germany were featured along with living historian type people, all of whom were amazingly knowledgeable. Having some lung issues, I needed to bolt from a smoky dwelling,neither from the stove or a coal-fired nail forge. There is a small gift shop in the visitors center where I purchased a hood sweatshirt, lio balm, and "dirt-scented" soap ( I could not resist!) It's a fun place for my interests, and I shall return, likely in mid-June. Next time I'll arrive earlier!

There are live animals outside the Farmhouse.....not for petting or feeding! Henrico Parks and Recs offers lectures on VA and Henrico history and often meets here. The museum of Meadow Farm here behind Crump Park is a lovely example of rural farm life in circa 1860. It's well-preserved and has distinct architectural significance of middle class living in that time period. The outbuildings are also well-maintained and the grounds are nicely manicured. At times there are festivals here where folks dress in period costumes and demonstrate candle making, basket weaving, etc. and a blacksmith quarters. There are also animals dwelling in the barns and pastures of this natural living farm. They have many activities and historic events, including a history of "Gabriel's Rebellion". There is usually a big July 4th celebration and other calendar events. This is a wonderful family park as there's lots of trails, picnic areas, a lake and other amenities. Don't miss touring this beautiful park!

During yesterday's visit, I specifically went for the GIANTS exhibit showing the personal collection of Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys. A variety of amazing work both 2D and 3D, thoughtfully curated to showcase hip hop and black culture--and very generous of them to have it all on loan. The Basquiat was a must-see, though not one of the more impressive ones. The decommissioned prison uniforms was thought-provoking. The Kehinde Wiley paintings of Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys were everything. Gordon Parks and Jamel Shabazz photography. The Kwame Brathwaite photography were among my very favorites. Just wow. The color. The respect. The beauty. I would definitely go back to take it all in again.

On this visit, the special exhibition was Giants featuring works from the Deans (Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz') collection. Fee was $12. It was a very large exhibit and was quite popular too. I really enjoyed the wide variety of modalities featured on display. The museum is currently undergoing a huge renovation but there is still a significant amount of art to see. The collections on display are diverse in both range and medium-ancient civilizations to contemporary and painting, sculpture, photography, textiles, Fabrege, decorative arts. I was really impressed with the extensive collections of American and European Art with paintings from many well-recognized artists: Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Edgar Degas, Boudin, Winslow Homer, Salvador Dali and several more. The Asian art collection is also significant and ranges from sculptures to drawings to ceramics with a significant amount of Buddhist art. Unique to this museum is the large collection of decorative arts: silvers, furniture, Fabrege, glass,etc. There was also a small area near the interactive family lounge area highlighting art completed by children participating in one of the many programs they offer throughout the year. The museum shop is worth visiting and is nicely curated. There's also a cafe on the first floor and a restaurant on the third. Parking is available in the parking deck adjacent to the building for $6. Another interesting thing to note: the museum is open 365 days a year!
