I gave birth to my first child recently, and while it should've been one of the happiest times of my life, my experience with Dr. Helen Salsbury and her daughter Anne (PA) left me feeling neglected, overlooked, and deeply disappointed. For most of my pregnancy, I was only seen by Anne, the PA, not Dr. Salsbury herself. I didn't even meet the doctor who would be delivering my baby until I was 36 weeks along. That alone was unsettling. Anne came across as impersonal and cold. My appointments were rushed, and she never really looked me in the eye or took the time to understand my concerns. Her responses felt robotic, like she was reading straight from a textbook. I didn't feel seen, heard, or cared for, which is the last thing any expecting mother should feel during such a vulnerable time. Eventually, I requested to be seen by Dr. Helen Salsbury. While she seemed slightly warmer than Anne, I quickly realized that she too was very quick with appointments--always in a hurry, like she had somewhere else to be. What really disturbed me was her rough approach during cervical checks. When I told her it hurt, she responded with an incredibly inappropriate comment: "I know your husband's penis is bigger than my fingers." That level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. She also tried to pressure me into being induced before my due date simply because she had a vacation planned. I refused, because I didn't want unnecessary interventions and I knew the risks of induction leading to C-sections. Thankfully, I went into labor after her return. While the delivery itself went smoothly, and she did her job efficiently, the care afterward is what truly shook me. About 8 days postpartum, I developed intense swelling in my feet and legs, along with persistent headaches. My feet were so swollen it hurt to walk. I called the office, and they had me come in. My blood pressure was extremely high--clearly in the hypertension zone. When Dr. Salsbury saw me, she didn't ask how I or the baby were doing. She simply asked, "What brings you in today?" I explained my symptoms, and she brushed them off. She said she wouldn't give me a diuretic like Lasix because it would be "overkill." Instead, she told me the swelling was normal and that my husband should massage my feet. She told me unless I had blurry vision, I had nothing to worry about. That advice almost cost me my life. A few days later, I went to the ER because the headaches persisted and something didn't feel right. There, I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia. My heart was enlarged. I had fluid in my lungs. My face, legs, and feet were severely swollen. I had dangerously high blood pressure and was at risk of seizures. I was hospitalized for four days. The same Lasix that Dr. Salsbury said was "overkill" was exactly what the hospital used to get the excess fluid out of my system. The fact that she dismissed my symptoms and sent me home, despite having clear signs of a serious postpartum condition, is beyond upsetting. I could have had a seizure or stroke. I could have died. Her carelessness and lack of concern put my life in danger. As a Black woman, I can't help but wonder if my pain and concerns were dismissed because of my race. I didn't feel heard. I didn't feel respected. I didn't feel safe. That is not how any patient should feel--especially not during pregnancy or postpartum. To be fair, the front desk staff and office nurses were kind and professional. I had no issues with them. But I cannot recommend Dr. Helen Salsbury or her daughter Anne to any woman--especially women of color. I'm sharing my story in hopes that it helps someone else avoid going through what I did. read more

Highly recommended!! The young blonde lady at check in is always on point and super friendly. But Selena and Jerry are the dream team. They kinda look like sisters!! The worse experience all 3 times! So unprofessional! Very careless about their patients! The issue I went in there for a month ago still has not been resolved. I have not received my lab results and it is going onto 2 weeks. I have to call the office multiple times just to get a answer. I was transferred around and got no where while on the phone with them. The office is very unhelpful and nonchalant about everything. Ive been with my nurse practitioner for years but once she left and they transferred to this office WORST EXPERIENCE . I was recommended to Dr Helen Salsbury, I came in to the office as new patient, the girls at the front desk were having a personal conversation about food plus they were eating,after 10 mins of waiting for them to ask me how can I help you. They told me that I need to pay $200 at front which I did then before seeing the doctor I ask-if the Pap smear was include they told me that that was an additional $200 but you pay at the end. The doctor saw me for 5 mins and again I ask the price they told me that they were going to let me know. I check out and was told that was ready to go and gave me a prescription for mammogram, 3 weeks late I get a bill for initial preventive medicine new patient. I been trying to speak to someone and no answer. This is such of bad service they provide I will not recommend this place and will call the health department and place a. Complain. I been in medicine industry and this is not acceptable. read more

I have been coming here for 2 years now, and I chose this place based on reviews after a little research. I feel from my experience, this place deserves to have another review written about it so maybe it can help others decide when choosing a doctor. I also live about an hour away and find it very worth while. Compared to any other experience, this has been by far the best ob/gyn office I've gone to. Dr. Salisbury is very unique in patient care as she does not rush, she's very informative, and takes time to listen. I have been here for a few years and with Selena, who I love. Unfortunately, I required surgery so was run around with other providers, namely Dr Salsbury. The whole process showed me how unaware and inefficient the office is. No one knew my medical history when they walked into my appointments (I believe it's her daughter in the practice, tried to order a redundant test that I had just completed), Dr Salsbury was consistently rude and demeaning when I had questions about medications, and attempting to prescribe me a medication that I had literally just told her I couldn't take. To top it off, she came out of the room, consulted with her daughter and again tried to convince me I should try some new birth control pill (which the office currently was already prescribing for me). Before I could check out of the appointment, I then had to wait for the doctor to place her take out lunch order with the receptionist. Unfortunately, as much as I like Selena and would recommend her, without hesitation, my experience with the other providers was so horrendous I wouldn't bother with this office. read more

I apologize in advance for any typos! I'm not gonna lie, the staff tends to be very kind so that distracts you from looking into other people or noticing their flaws. Plus, this is my first child so I didn't have anything to compare. Long story short. Every nurse was annoyed with her in my delivery room. I can't give you too many details on how my actual delivery went cause I don't know much about that part! I just know you shouldn't have a birth plan when you go to her cause it's almost as if you can't have an opinion cause hey! She's the doctor right? My sons circumcision was done 3-4 weeks after he was born because she couldn't make it back to do in the hospital in time for whatever reason. She insisted I just call her office, make an appt and get it done there. "It's better cause you get to be there with him anyway" is along the lines of what she said. I called the office. They only have one set of tools to do the procedure and it's only done I believe Fridays and their next appt was like 2 or 3 weeks later. I was livid and the woman on the phones response to be was along the lines of "people wait much longer than that" which I responded something like (pissed off) "okay and I'm talking about me and my child! ". Can't lie, i lost it. My cousin who was her patient briefly, changed doctors because certain things she should have been attentive to she just wasn't. That same cousin of mine delivered her child at another hospital and the conversation came up that she had to switch doctors and when the nurse asked who was her previous doctor was and my cousin answered her response was " all I'm going to say is some people don't know when to retire" Now, about me. I wasn't feeling myself for A month. I went for a check up, they said everything was normal. Maybe I'm just irritated down there cause of many reasons. Which caused me to go for MONTHS thinking something was wrong with me cause I just wasn't getting better with this "irritation" I went back in and due to unfortunate events i assumed it had to be an STD. I was in the office kind of panicked. I had to just wait and see. When my results came in, NOBODY called me. Lol. So I spent a week or two panicking and suddenly I get a notification that a prescription is ready for me at the pharmacy. My whole way to the store I was a wreck. I didn't know what medicine I was picking up for what cause nobody called, and if they did i got no notification and no message letting me know or telling me to call back. That was my last straw. I'll never go back. Last but not least, my son is 14 months old and I've recently had a issue with his private area. I have to get his circumcision redone. Someone look at my sons area and said "it doesn't even look circumcised" This is just MY opinion and I've met many people who wouldn't go back to her for their second child. Maybe this was just a series of unfortunate events! But my personal experience was not so good and I only put up with it for so long because i didn't know any better. But hey; she gets the job done. They're super nice and I don't think they mean any harm. I would just tell the rest of the staff that are actually nice and have a good heart to get out of there. read more

She was very attentive and in engaged in conversation to know a little bit more about my gynecology history, as oppose to a quick greet and meet. She took her time and made sure she answered my concerns. I am am pleased to know that I found a doctor and facility that care to listen to their patients . Today was my initial visit with this OB/GYN practice and I must say I am extremely pleased with the staff and the service I received. When I arrived, my paperwork was ready for me to fill out, with my name and other identifiers already printed at the top of the forms (saving time). Jerri was especially welcoming; however all the staff are super friendly! I was seen by Selena Hodgers, Nurse Practitioner, who was very warm and accessible, taking the time to be thorough obtaining my medical and family history and very easy to talk to. She truly CARES I moved north but I knew Helen was so KNOWLEDGEABLE that I did a 2nd opinion. She confirmed what I had been physically feeling. I had such high hopes going into the appointment being a new patient. The office staff was friendly enough and her nurse was great, but then it went downhill. I sat naked in a room for 1 hour and 45 minutes only to be told that the office staff had "checked me out" when I had never been seen. Finally, when the doctor came in she did a rough and quick exam, very rushed instead of getting to know a new patient. When I expressed to her my concerns she told me that I'm "stressed out and crazy" but "sorry for being so blunt" and "I'm sure it will get better soon". I have a master's degree and a biological background, I was totally insulted after waiting patiently then brushed off like I was nothing and on top of things "crazy". Absolutely amazing doc! I've been with her for five years and she has already delivered my first baby boy and is now about to deliver my second. She's one of the few doc's around that actually see's you day or night for delivery, answers her own calls, and will go beyond the extra mile for you and your baby. I had complications with my first delivery and was told by nurses at the hospital that any other OB would have made me have a c-section rather than take the two plus hours it took for my son to be delivered. I had to write this update because Dr. Salsbury is incredible. I had a breeched baby (head up, not in birthing position) my ENTIRE pregnancy. My little girl wasn't going anywhere, even after I attempted all recommended techniques to try to turn her. I had to schedule a C-Section because it's dangerous to deliver a baby breech but Dr. Salsbury said she wanted to attempt a procedure called an External Version. You should look it up...it's really intense. In a nut shell, they try to flip the baby externally by manhandling your belly. Most doctors would just go straight for surgery but Helen wanted to give me the best chance to have a natural delivery. I check in to the hospital at 6am mentally ready to get a C-section but giving the External Version a shot. After 20 grueling minutes, she was able to successfully turn my baby, break my water, and put me into labor. I was able to have a natural birth!! The whole process was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Every nurse I encountered was shocked that Dr. Salsbury turned my baby. Some shared that most Doctors would just do a C-section, others shared how great but rare this procedure was. They were all very impressed with Dr. Salsbury to say the least. I am just so thankful that she cares about doing whatever it takes to deliver babies as "natural" (vaginal...not w/o intervention) as possible but more importantly...healthy! read more

1. There is a fee for being a new patient whereas other places give discounts. Also I had been there several times but since too much time passed between visits I got recharged the new patient fee to "update my records" which I paid. Then they added even more fees that were not in the initial quote making not the Twice as much which I paid but well over 3X the quoted price in person at the front desk before going in. Then! Besides breaking patient privacy laws and sending my info to my exhusband whose insurance I hadn't used in at least 10 years, (updated records my ass) lied about how much the appointment would cost since they are still unwilling to honor even half the word of their front desk as I've already paid twice the quoted fee and don't want to pay the bill I am still getting that would make it over 4 times the original quoted charge: Next thing I know they keep sending my exhusband who I divorced 10 years ago bills for another charge they decided to add with no explanation. And guess what. This Yelp will have "no response" because that is what you will get from them. read more

This office is so excellent! Everyone I encountered was a pleasure to interact with. Jerry was very kind while taking my vitals and acting as the assistant present during my exam. I was seen by Nurse Practitioner Selena, who is hands-down the most caring gynecological physician I have encountered thus far, along with Dr. Salsbury, whom I have seen in the past. Selena was very kind, treated me meaningfully as an individual rather than just another patient, and truly listened to everything I said. Instead of basically shoving birth control pills down my throat like I have experienced at every other gynecologist office I have visited, she understood my opinion and just made sure I was using alternative birth control methods correctly. I felt very comfortable in her care. I found My Obgyn after moving to Miami from LA. As my husband and I were planning on starting a family, it was important to us to find a dr. who had a low c-section birth rate. Dr. Salsbury delivered our son on Aug. 31st. My birth experience was excellent, thanks to Dr. S. I was in labor for 36 hrs, and at no time did Dr. S push for a C-section. She was patient and monitered our well-being. Even the nurses at the hospital were surprised. I am very thankful to her and her staff (especially Jerri) for making my pregnancy and labor experiance so amazing! Now, before I was weeks into my pregnancy I too would get frustrated with the occasional long wait times to be seen. But I learned, however, that these are due to Dr.S being readily available to her maternity patients. She will always respond to calls/texts, and even drives to the hospital to see her patients! Having been one of those patients to have caused others to wait or be rescheduled (I delivered at 1:30 pm) I am a lot more understanding of the wait times. I would highly recommend Dr. S and her practice! read more
