With Michael as my music/guitar instructor, my musical tastes have completely exploded so that I now totally enjoy and play classical pieces(Bach, Mozart, Carcassi), Country(Johnny Cash, etc), all classic rock(including all AC/DC!!). I have learned how to practice, what to practice, and how to have fun and really want to practice, from ground up. I have learned all the Modes, harmonic and pentatonic scales, how to finger pick, how to play rhythm, how to solo, how to actually read music, and how to appreciate the guitar and music as an fulfilling journey each step of the way. As a music instructor Michael has a customized game plan specifically for each individual student. He has a great sense of humor, has tremendous patience, and is easy to talk to. He is an extremely skilled and devote guitar player and working musician. His lessons are a great value. He is very flexible with lesson times and each hour is start to finish guitar. There is zero waste of time. Michael is serious about the guitar as a voice and now so am I. I absolutely recommend Michael as a music/guitar instructor. On Sunday, we had to drive several hours (~3) round trip to babysit our son so we could attend the…read moreblacksmithing class. We arrived about 10 minutes early, but there was nobody at the shop. We knocked on the door, tried calling, and walked around the building to see if there was someone there. After 25 minutes, we finally decided to leave. We later received an automated email explaining that their "auto-reminders did not go out to you and to our instructor as they were supposed to." At the bottom of the email, it gave me the option to unsubscribe from their emails. For a class that costs nearly $90 per person, I would expect a higher degree of professionalism. All of the class attendees were responsible enough to show up, without auto-reminders. There is no excuse for the instructor forgetting! The refund they issued did not cover the cost or inconvenience of babysitting services. Their automated email that I could unsubscribe was unprofessional and felt like they were making excuses. The customer service was awful and I would never recommend that anyone goes there.

We each had our own kits to make the candles and got to pick out our scents from a wide variety of options. The instructor was super helpful and took us through step by step on how to make a candle. We brought our own wine so we even made it a sip and candle make class ;)! There was about an hour that we waiting for them to dry so we opened presents and got dinner next door. It was the perfect activity to do for my birthday and well worth the time and money!

We also liked that they are a local, fair-trade, sustainable and organic whenever possible. We asked for colorful and tropical inspired flowers and they did a wonderful job! Kim listened to what I wanted and made it so much better. Due to Covid precautions, we chatted over zoom, email, and text. Payment was super easy over venmo (we stayed around the budget that I wanted), she sent "sneak peek" texts so I could give feedback on the bouquets and boutonnieres, and I was able to pickup the flowers from S. Minneapolis. The flowers are still looking beautiful a few days after the event and still make me smile every time I see them. We've also received nothing but positive and gushing feedback on how they look from our guests and others seeing pictures. Can't wait to order more flowers from them in the future!

The McPhail Center for Music, through its "Resources: Musician Referral" program led us to James Allan who was willing to adapt his talents to our choice of about 40 songs from the 60s and 70s (a few from earlier in the last century). James put a great deal of effort into preparation for our event, and on the evening of the festivities, he performed flawlessly. He specializes in jazz, Brazilian, South American, and classical music, but his expertise is such that he can perform other genres as well.
