I chatted with them for a bit over email to pin down what I wanted done and what I wanted the experience to be like and then when the appointment time came, I was excited to get it done! I'm prone to fainting when there are needles involved so when I started feeling woozy I asked if we could change my position to laying flat on my back with my knees up and Phoebe reset the table perfectly so I could come back from that feeling and they could work once I was ready. I had to pause several times at the beginning and Phoebe was very kind and patient with me, letting me rest as needed and getting back to it when I was ready. When they were all done, it was super exciting to see the finished artwork! My tattoo is better than I could've imagined and I'm thrilled with it! This shop is lovely with soft music, a kind of gothic/witchy sort of vibe, and Phoebe clearly takes care to keep all tools and everything pristinely clean. I look forward to going again with my friends, this time as their support!

And I showed him the design I wanted and he said it was too big and it wasn't going too look right with the flowers all being inside the 2x2. And I said "okay then let's just do the ladybug and I'll add the flowers later" and he said "good idea!!" And I don't know where he got the tattoo I got from. This one has a different head. Different dots. Has legs. And was just not what I wanted. To be fair I didn't correct him but also I shouldn't really have to. I had someone draw it for me and I didn't take a second look at her drawing until he was already half way done. He didn't tell me how to clean or take care of it (maybe he assumed I knew how since I have plenty of other tattoos but different artists have different after care suggestions and I tend to do what each artist tells me so if something goes wrong I can tell them I did exactly what they told me to.) He was also rolling his eyes when I asked him to move the placement. I have other tattoos on my arm and the lady bug was not centered with the other ones and it would have look wack if I had not insisted on moving it over. Then when we were leaving there was blood dripping down my arm I asked for a napkin he rolled his eyes. I get that he has been doing this all day and he's probably tired. (8pm) but I would have much rather him say "hey im really tired how about you come back _____ for the same price" or something like that. Instead of getting something that I didn't want permanently on my body. My friend came in with me and she had a similar experience (him saying it's not gonna look right and doing something different than what she had designed)

Jenn also happens to be one of the kindest human beings that I have ever met; I never went on my phone during our two long sessions together, because she is such an engaging, incredible lady, and I didn't want to miss out on conversation with her. Parenthetically, I have seen her husband's work while he was tattooing next to us, and he, too, does superlative work. What a wonderful couple, and what a wonderful experience! This place is so neat! When we walked in the door there was so much to look at. The ceiling is so very elegant, down to the walls, loaded with antiques and vintage frames and art. It has a fun eclectic vibe. The owners greeted us upon walking in and got us all checked in. Everyone was so down to earth and welcoming. The vibes were good and the parlor was well kept and clean. The artist I had ( I apologize I forgot his name) was very nice and did a great job going over placement and preparation. He did a great job with the line work and overall I'm very happy with my new piece of art.

I lived…read morein Portland at the time, and it was so hard to get into the really good artists, that I gave up. Then, we moved to Salem. I decided after two years to try to get the tattoo again. I decided to look in the Salem area, but didn't think I would find someone as good as the best PDX artists. Then, my partner came across Dark Star's portfolio and we were really impressed. It was hard to pick between Ryan, Tim and Eric, as they all seemed excellent. But, Tim seemed to be strongest in realism and black and white, and that's what I wanted, so I went with him. I'm so happy that I went with Dark Star and Tim. Incredible work. It could not have turned out any better. His ability to create accurate dimension in a realism piece is a rare gift. He also has a light touch, so the pain wasn't as bad as I expected. The shop and Tim are also very obsessive about keeping everything clean and sanitary. Also, it seems the artists all like each other, so the atmosphere is fun and comfortable. And the prices are also more than reasonable. My only hesitation in writing this is that I am going to want more work from Tim and I don't want him to get so booked that it takes months to see him. :-)
