I cannot recommend My Gym San Carlos highly enough for a child's birthday party! My daughter and her friends had the absolute time of their little lives. From start to finish, Megan made the experience exceptional and completely stress-free. She took the time to review our preferences and coordinate all the details well before the event, so when the day arrived, all we had to do was show up and celebrate. I was truly amazed by Megan's ability to juggle a million roles at once -- seamlessly acting as maître d', DJ, ringmaster, custodian, safety officer, and more -- all with effortless grace. I also loved that the children were safely contained in a lively play area where they could run, tumble, and explore freely without constant supervision. It allowed me to actually enjoy the party without chasing after my daughter every few seconds! Each activity -- from the parachute games and zipline to the bubble dance party, bean bag toss, and puppet show -- was perfectly tailored to my daughter's high energy and interests. I've been coming here for the past couple months and was a great place to "go" when it was cold outside and didn't have to think about what "to do" with my one year old everyday. The downside is that their only membership option is an "unlimited" one for $140ish a month - which is great if you can go a few times per week but not necessarily for going 1x a week (like on a Saturday) bc then you feel like you have to go. Would have liked to have seen another membership option like a punch card or something similar so that you can go when you can make it. The only other option I was given was "drop in" for $50 per visit. Otherwise, my son had a great time here and glad we found out about this place. read more

Our son had his 4th birthday party here and everyone (including the adults) had so much fun! Teacher Megan and Teacher Liz were phenomenal and kept all 20+ kids entertained and engaged. I liked how they had both free play and structured activities. The teachers remembered all the kids' names and called them by their first name during the different activities (it was everyone's first time at My Gym, too!). We were all really impressed! We chose a special theme for my son's party and everything was set up and cleaned up by the staff. I was 36 weeks pregnant when we had this party and it was the easiest and most stress free experience. 10/10 recommend My Gym and big thank you to Teacher Megan and Teacher Liz. They made my son feel so special on his special day. (Just adding that this location also has a zip line which is such a fun bonus, too!) read more

This review is long overdue. We signed up in the beginning of summer and have absolutely loved our experience. My toddler is high energy, and he almost always passes out after class. Kind of a scam for babies under 9 mos or so... I took my 3 mo old to the developmentally appropriate class and there weren't activities she could do -- or any attempts to modify the "class" to include her. It's basically a room with some cushions and mirrors, and I have both of those at home, for free. It's incredible they get away with charging as much as they could do, even for older kids. They shouldn't be advertising offerings at all for babies who are at a pre-crawling stage. read more

My son is 21 months old and the Gymsters class is a great opportunity for him to explore skills and meet other toddlers. I have been taking my two years old son to My-Gym for about one year so far. We haven't had any problems so far most of the time since they require kids to use the mask above age 2. The transition to using a mask wasn't as hard as we imagined, but running behind our energetic son, making adjustments to the mask falling below his nose while running, became part of the process. Today, one of the teachers handed out another mask so he could keep the nose covered, but my son became agitated. While I was dealing with his tantrum, one of the other moms asked me to leave because I struggled to put the new mask on. I can understand that as I see it from a parent's perspective, but what bothered me was another teacher coming to my two years old son and telling him, "I'm sorry buddy, but you have to go" she opened the gate and asked us to leave the place. She didn't even talk to me! I came to tears in the parking lot while trying to understand what happened in such a short time while still struggling to calm my son down. I have four more classes paid which I'm definitely not planning to use. I prefer to give up on those classes than come back to see the personnel and mom who did not understand I was trying to handle a situation with my son in such a disrespectful way. read more

I have loved taking both of my children to this gym for over a year now. We just recently had a joint birthday for my daughter (4yo) and son (2yo). Teacher Megan was phenomenal and did an incredible job engaging kids in both age groups, which is not an easy thing to do! Multiple parents came up to me afterwards complimenting the gym and teacher. On a weekly basis, I continue to be impressed with the teachers and the facility. My now two year old has been going to My Gym in San Carlos for about 9 months and he absolutely loves it. He gets so excited when we pull into the parking lot that he is practically jumping out of his car seat to to get in there. We checked out several other kid's gyms in the mid-Peninsula, and My Gym was the best combination we found of cleanliness (he has not gotten sick from his classes), class/scheduling flexibility, and spaciousness. The Unlimited Classes were a godsend during the rainy November and December, though they can get really crowded as there tend to be a lot of walk-ins. We also had my son's 2nd birthday at My Gym, and it was great! All the kids loved it, and the two staff members who were working there did a great job corralling the kids and keeping them engaged. They also helped serve food and cake, and overall we (and our son) had a great time doing his birthday there. This location is right off El Camino Real in a shopping center, so parking is very easy. What I also really like is that they change up the gym configuration regularly, so my little guy never gets bored. It's a great way for him to get out his energy, improve his coordination, and to have a great time! read more

We hosted my son's 1st birthday there and it was EXCELLENT. The venue was perfect for all the toddlers crawling/walking around with lots to do including circle time, bubbles, a zipline, great songs and open play. I have an older son who is almost 4 and he had so much fun on the trampoline, rock climbing wall, monkey bars. They have so much good stuff for all the kids. The party planning was seemless. MyGym provides awesome party planners (thanks Bailey!) who help you with the party. We just ordered pizza through them as well as the goody bags. All we had to do was come, bring our cake and any extra snacks and some misc utensils, drinks and that's it! The party planners took care of everything including set up and clean up. I've hosted so many parties at my home and it's really hard to fully enjoy yourself because you're busy making sure everything is just right. This is the first party we've ever had where we could simply take a nice fresh breath and ennnnnnjooooooy. I can not recommend this enough. Thank you MyGym!!! read more

My Gym is great. We've been coming here for about a few months and we recently had our daughter's birthday party here and Nick was amazing. He made sure everything was in order and did a great job in making my daughter feel special. 90 minutes was the perfect amount of time for the party. Nick called me earlier in the week to see if I had a preference on the set up and I said no. He took care of it after that. The birthday parties at My Gym is great as you get the following: - 90 minutes of fun - 6 balloons - free clean up (yay) - 40% off mountain mikes pizza (ask mountain mikes to cut the pizza's in smaller slices (which they forgot) and bring plates) - supply cake plates, napkins I've researched Gymboree and other places and My Gym seems more relaxed as Gymboree cost $375 for 2 hours and children that are 5 years and older are welcome to participate in the activities but are not permitted on any of the equipment (which is terrible!) Free Plays are fun but there are different age groups so if you have a little one, stay close by. It's also great to meet other parents. My daughter loves My Gym and is always ready for a nap shortly afterwards! :) read more

I've only been here once so far for a free trial, and the place itself looks awesome. There are so many apparatuses and things for the kids to do. I could tell that my daughter was dying to play before she could get her shoes and socks off. We had teacher Dana and she was sooo great with the kids! I love that there's time for the kids to play on whatever they want, and then they come back for a song, or for gymnastic type of fun, and then go play again. THEY EVEN HAVE A ZIP LINE! My daughter loves this place and the people are great. Kids go bare feet, and parents have to wear socks. This would be great for parties. Membership is kind of pricey, but you can go to as many classes that you want within your child's age, and there are free play days on tues and thurs. My daughter is almost 3 and it's not as kiddie as gymboree, and she learns to socially interact as well as build her developmental skills read more

We hosted my son's 3rd birthday party at My Gym in San Carlos. Bailey, Nessa and Jasmine did a great job of entertaining my son and his 15 classmates. I appreciated that there was a good mix of structured time as well as free play. The kids really enjoyed the set up - ball pitt, trampoline, beach balls hung from the ceiling and they all went crazy during bubble time. My son had a big smile on his face the entire time. As a parent, it was nice to just come, enjoy and not worry about setting up or cleaning up. Highly recommended for celebrations for your little one! read more

Worst experience! I had my little one enrolled here for just 3 months. The staff were not cooperating in getting her fully engaged in the class. They would just ask me to interfere. Not the way to treat a 2 year old. They have more free play time than any structure and theme. They keep making the same cake pizza week after week. When I wanted to quit they didn't even ask me why I wanted to quit. They seemed very happy that one kid has left. Very unkind. read more

As Gymoree has withered away in a protracted death spiral, My Gym has risen to take over the mantel of organized kids' play spaces. Most importantly, my 4 year old daughter loves her visits for "Mighty Mite" class and free play with her baby brother on Fridays. Her pre-school teacher had suggested we encourage our daughter to be more physically active. She took to the class like white on rice; running around and playing and singing and chatting away from the first minute of her first class. My daughter certainly doesn't look at My Gym as a fitness center to work on her gross motor skills. That's what's best about the place: it encourages physicality and involvement rather effortlessly. Space just the right size. Props and mats are regularly changed around into new formations to keep things interesting. Staff is very enthusiastic and engaging. I had tried out San Mateo Gymnastic Center in Belmont with my son, but he got immediately overwhelmed and turned off by all the hardcore Ulga Korbits running around at full speed flipping, somersaulting and vaulting. Way too hardcore. My Gym has just the right vibe. All in all, a great way for little kids to bounce off the (padded) wall and let off steam. She's really gonna sleep well tonight! read more

We love, love, love My Gym! We used to be members of Gymboree in San Mateo and while we loved Teacher Rose, the classes got to be a bit boring and not challenging enough for my daughter who is now 29 months old. I have a friend who recommended My Gym and I went to check it out as a possible venue for my daughter's 2nd birthday party, even though we weren't members yet. Out of all of the places I looked at, I thought this looked like the best venue and you got the most value for your money. Turns out I was right. We had the BEST birthday party there and the staff was great. They kept all of the kiddos entertained and the best part was when they brought my daughter out on a saucer sled and she was decked out in a pink feather boa and birthday crown and she was just loving it. After that birthday party I signed her up for classes right away. She loves to go to My Gym and loves Teachers Lil, Bailey and Dana. The staff is awesome and they interact so well with the kids. The activities are different every week and the equipment is very fun. It is perfect for my daughter who is really athletic, flexible and has great coordination--all skills that she couldn't really utilize on the equipment at Gymboree. At My Gym they have a trampoline, ball pit, parallel bars, balance beam, zip line, swings and a bunch of other things that bring out each week. The price is a bit high ($81 per month) and I suppose it would be worth it if you used the unlimited free play during the week, but we can't. The free play is weekdays during the middle of the day so if you are a working parent, then you can't go so you are basically paying $81 per month for four classes. The only thing I wish they would change is to have at least one open play class in the evening like 5-7pm. Other than that, this place is great and I highly recommend it for the classes and for birthday parties. read more

I just had my son's fifth birthday party here. I have only great things to say about this place. Great customer service and very friendly staff. Children were all involved in the activities that were very structured yet fun for the kids. The party started with free play until all the guests had arrived, followed by group activities. The kids were having tons of fun and were very involved in all the activities that were planned for them. After about 40 minutes of play, they gathered everyone for pizza and juice. The staff took care of serving the food.Then it was time for cake cutting, some more free play followed by wrap up. They took care of all the clean up too. Avi and Katie were just great and kept the kids fully entertained. Best of all they made the birthday boy feel super special. This place is AMAZING! I had my daughters 2nd birthday party here and the staff was so great with the kids! ThEy did activities and literally took control of all the chaos For the birthday song and cake they put my little girl in a swing and put the cake up on a stage area so everyone could see. The set up was perfect for feeding kids pizza and juice. AND they clean up everything afterwards! The music they plaY was great and all the kids just loved it!! We had a TON of people too. This place holds a bunch of people and a bunch of kids. I totally recommend this place for large children's parties AND everyday energy expenditure for kids. Again, the staff was amazing. So great. I can't believe my 1 year old's gym membership is more expensive than mine. It's 81/month and that gives you classes and some free play time. With both parents working M-F, the weekday classes are pretty much shot for us and that leaves us going to the 8AM Saturday class for our kid. Class itself is well structured. There's time to introduce the parents/kids then free play followed by some specific play sets and then self play where kids interact with each other and the teachers and the parents "hide" from the kids. All of the stuff is optional so if your child is too young and wants to just play by himself, that's also fine. I find the teachers to be caring and understanding and there's MyGym locations nationally so your membership can get you access everywhere. Outside of the monthly cost, I think it's great. read more

I can only comment on the birthday parties, see other reviews for the regular classes. Birthday parties. A term that sounded so innocent and fun when you were a child all of a sudden draws a primeval response similar to the term 'root canal' when you have your own kids. My Gym can help soothe that pain by making a fun experience for your kids while they get good and exhausted playing. The staff is what makes this place work. They have a variety of gym equipment and it's a blast to watch your kids climb all over the various poles, foam pits, and mini-zip lines. The staff is usually two athletic employees who are great with the kids and do a lot to get them involved. They also make your child the center of attention for quite a bit of the time (tell me that's not fun), and the play exercises are well planned. It's not an especially large place, and they don't really have a separate room for the cake and pizza, but there's more than enough room for everyone to sit and eat. One really cool thing, as usual I ordered about two pizzas too many, and we really didn't want to take them home. The staff member works in the City, and she said that she lives very close to a homeless shelter and she'd be glad to bring the extra food there. That kind of kindness showed in the way she ran the place (this has been a while ago, so she may be gone now, but it still made an impression). read more

This is a great place for little ones to safely tumble and get their energy out. My son has been coming to My Gym for about 7 months now. He really enjoys socializing and learning from the older kids. Teachers Megan, Jean, and Ben are great - really upbeat and the children seem very comfortable with them. The facility is decently sized and clean. They clean the ballpit monthly which is significantly better than other children gyms. They also offer unlimited classes every now and then. It's perfect for kids with lots of energy like my son. The biggest downside is that the parents and caretakers are incredibly selfish. They take sick children to the gym because why not? My son has been sick so many times (once seriously ill) since coming here. We do a lot of drop-ins and take advantage of free play so we come in contact with a lot of children, some months older with more developed immune systems. In the last week alone, I've seen 10 kids that were definitely sick (or symptomatic) at the classes, coughing, sneezing and licking everything. I could list the kids by name but won't because it's really the parents/caretakers who should be sbame Tl;dr - great facility and instructors, selfish parents spread their children's nasty germs because they want their kids to "get out of the house". UPDATE: MyGym enacted a policy that they would send parents and sick children home to keep other kids healthy. While it is awkward for the employees, I am grateful they are upholding their policy and keeping the gym a healthy space. (Kudos to Jean and Megan!) read more

We had our daughter's second birthday here, with kids ranging from 12 months to 8 years. The women who ran the party (2 of them vs. 23 children!) were awesome: energetic, friendly, and totally on top of things. On top of all that, they went out of their way to help us set up (food, juice, etc., that we brought) and tear down. They took care of all the cleaning. I can't saw enough about how terrific this experience was! The one downside has been the response time on calls. We typically get a call back from them the same day, but we've seen lags of 3 days, which is agonizingly slow. Seeing what the employees have on their hands, it'd be great if the management found another way to deal with calls--perhaps not using the same employees who are working with the kids. read more

Their classes are well structured, they change up/rotate the activities every week so it's fun and different and the teachers are great. My baby developed his love for bubbles here! He just enjoys it so much. I highly recommend this place for the classes. Our baby goes there once a week and they have some free time you can go and play as well. I can't say enough good things about My Gym! Love love love it! First off the success of any children's program is directly tied the people who run the program. I continue to be impressed with Avi's professionalism and and the caliber of people he hires to run his classes. The are well trained, motivated and great at what they do. They genuinely love to be doing it. We just had our son's 6th birthday party there- Star Wars theme! At first I was hesitant to do it there because I thought he was too old and it may not be right for his classmates. Oh boy was I wrong! Avi and Sasha ( another wonderful teacher) kept the 12 boys and girls happily moving the whole time. I was tired just watching them. The stamina they have to keep up with 12 kindergarteners even this mother of 3 doesn't have! They even had Star Wars music which my son loved! awesome one year old birthday party. We found this place while searching for a birthday party venue for our one year old. Their activities filled the entire time of the party and Gymboree only does 30 minutes activities. They can also accommodate for up to 30 kids whereas most places can only have max of 20 kids. There are also two sections for food, adult food vs. kids food. You can bring in alcohol if you want. Round table and baskin robbins are next door, so you can order stuff next door, which is very convenient. The activity leader are really great at leading as well as helping with the set up, cutting the cake and packing up the food. We as parents really got to enjoy the party as well. the only thing I wish they can do better is that it's kind of hard to get a hold of them on the phone, since they are always holding parties and answer the phone during the time b/t the parties, but I don't know what is that time frame that's good to call. Maybe they should state the time in their VM. We ended up just driving by to talk to them the old fashion way. read more

Five stars for the 2nd Bday party our daughter just had at MyGym. Our party was scheduled from 5-7pm on a Saturday and we got there at 4:45pm and everything was set up beautifully with piping hot pizza just delivered. The two ladies who hosted our party (I only remember one of their names, Jasmine maybe?) did a fantastic job. All of our daughter's kiddie friends got a good balance of free play time and organized activities. The zip line, bubble storm, and birthday swings were the highlights (I think we could've done without the stuffed puppets). The best part was once the party was over we only had to take our stuff to the car and didn't have to spend an hour cleaning our house. Some of our guests said it was one of the best children's parties they've ever been to, we owe it all to My Gym in San Carlos. read more
