Used to go to the deck cafe pretty often when I lived in Palm Beach a few years ago, so thought we'd go there. Unfortunately, being a public holiday, the deck was closed. But this place looked pretty good, and it was busy which is usually a good sign (but not so busy they didn't have a table). Food was good but a bit basic. They didn't have a "big" vegetarian breakfast on the menu, which always saddens me. And the eggs Florentine came on toast instead of English muffins, but otherwise the food was good. Serving sizes were more than adequate. The coffee was surprisingly good. Surprisingly because finding good coffee used to be quite difficult on the gold coast. The bean was one of the big brands (can't remember which unfortunately), so nothing special, but it was well-made. Service was great too. Very friendly staff, willing to stop and have a chat.

They have a small amount of both indoor and outdoor seating, and a tree steadily dropped large flower petals on the outdoor seats while I was there. I also appreciated that they serve their full menu continuously through the day (being irked at just missing breakfast elsewhere). The menu is mostly crepes and other breakfast cafe stuff. The crepe I got was definitely delicious and indulgent, between the perfectly melted nutella inside and the ice cream on top. It's the kind of thing you want when you're on vacation. Their waffles looked intriguing as well, and they had an appealing vegetarian savory crepe as well as the sweet ones. While it is vegetarian-friendly, if you are looking for something more restrictive, this is probably not your place (but you are in the right town; there are plenty of options, several of which I have reviewed). I could definitely see coming back to this one.

So, I thought this was a great choice to test their expertise. And it definitely delivered. What I love about the cake is that it is not too sweet. Sometimes orange cakes can be overdone with sugar and a little dense. This one was neither. It was fluffy, moist and comfortably orange in flavour. In fact, I just didn't feel naughty eating it. So they are doing something right! Oh and their coffee comes out in really large cups. Almost mug size! Good quality too, so another tick for me. Aux Fine Bouches, tu as volé mon cœur avec un gâteau!
