Dodgy business practices. Avoid at all cost!
Bought a surfboard here and the guy who sold it to me made it sound like it was a clean, never repaired slightly used board. I paid accordingly for a price of a slightly used undamaged board. Came home and later found out that there has been a pretty big gouge on the deck that has been repaired -- with not the best repair job even. There was no foam filled in either; just fibreglassed over the top with the hole cavity left there. When you press slightly on where the fibreglass is, it would flex. However, the board had some color pigmentation on it as part of its design. So I told myself that maybe it could've been missed. I let it go and didn't make a big fuss about it.
On that same day, I also left one of my boards on consignment for them to sell. Mind you, it's a 20% fees on their end to basically have the board on the rack (and perhaps fool someone else into buying one of their boards). My board had small bumps on the deck and some small ones on the bottom but nothing major and there was definitely no damage on the rail. I represented it as such in the condition form that they had me fill out. I also had the board on gumtree and someone was interested in it a few weeks later so I went to go pick it up from the shop. When I'm showing it to the buyer, I see the rail has been damaged. It looks like someone had dropped it and cracked the fibreglass on the rail. Once again, no mention from their end when it happened or any offer to repair it. Obviously, a phone call from one of you folks that work in the shop is just too much effort!
Two for two. I think that's fair enough to say that these guys are some dodgy bastards at best. Avoid at all cost. I'm one for supporting local businesses but not when shit like this happens. read more
