a white frosted cake on a table

My Favorite Cake is a hidden gem. I found this small business via instagram. We initially bought a small cake to try before ordering the larger cake for our elopement. We absolutely love the minimalist designs offered for these cakes. The flavor is light, fluffy, and not overly sweet. We bought the strawberries and cream. Online order with pickup a few days later. Great communication - I receive a text when I ordered and then a text when it was ready for pickup (right near Mississippi in N Portland). Highly recommend giving this small business a try!

Hidden gem, charm overload serving delicious, rustic baked goods. Both outside and inside is pink,…read morewith lots trailing plants, vintage cake dishes and tiered platters, and an entire wall of framed pictures; another with dried flowers; with lots of hearts and stars sprinkled in. The footprint of the bakery is tiny, but there is ample seating at their various tables. The pastry counter has a variety of baked goods that changes by the day. The gentleman behind the counter explained that it's challenging to determine the traffic during the week, so weekdays do have a less varied selection. however, there are still plenty of options! The weekday I visited, after seeing someone on Instagram devouring several cookies, scones and muffins, they had all those items plus pinwheel pastries, biscuits, popovers, quiche, hotdogs in pasty, mini chocolate lava cakes, and tarts. Hard to choose! Especially when I no longer over indulge on sweets and pastries So I limited myself to just one item. Opted for the popover freshly filled with Bavarian creme upon ordering. The popover was light and airy, but it was the sweet, delicate Bavarian - or maybe French - creme that took it over the top! They need to be eaten there, not saved for another day. On weekends they also have frittatas and breakfast sandwiches which I love. lily coffee is also available. And they have a dish with day old items for $1.50. The only downside is the tiny parking lot shared by several other stores so it's always packed. I drive a tiny Smart car and still had to maneuver and do a few k-turns to get out safely. Recommend parking on the street!

What a gem we stumbled upon when we found The Village Ballroom!! Connected to The Oregon Public…read moreHouse, The Village Ballroom is a nonprofit event space where 100% of the profits are donated to a local charity!! Pair this with the fact that it ended up being the most reasonably priced venue in town, and my husband and I were absolutely sold. The space is beautiful, with very little need to decorate because it is so lovely on its own. The entire event staff was so helpful and responsive, getting us answers right away and clarifying with us along the way. All the costs were explained very clearly and they were up front with us in how cost might be affected whenever we wanted to add something or change something. For a very reasonable fee we opted to use their staff for bartending, as well as the purchase of non-alcoholic beverages. Additionally, we chose to pay their staff (again, a very modest fee) to take care of clean-up after the event, as we didn't want to burden our parents and friends with that task. The venue has very nice chairs to use as well as a good variety of tables of different sizes (included in your rental fee). They also have linens which can be rented through them, saving the hassle of renting from another company and paying for deliver/pickup fees. The venue coordinator even worked with my wedding coordinators, offering suggestion for ways to expedite setup and the flip (we did both ceremony and reception in the ballroom). I really feel like this space is an under-appreciated treasure, and can't imagine why more people haven't caught on. Because my husband and I met working with a homeless community, we felt so good about our choice to go with The Village Ballroom, considering their direct connection to social justice and giving back to the community. It was the absolute perfect setting for our perfect day.

(They could use a couch :) ) It's tucked away in a residential neighborhood a block south of Killingsworth and a few blocks north of Alberta. And yes, it does have a tiny skate park adjacent. I've never seen anyone use it. This is Jet Black's second location, their other being in Gateway. They roast their own coffee. lt is a vegan shop, meaning they offer coconut, almond, oat, or soy milk. They have pastries from an assortment of local bakers that are also all vegan. If you can, enjoy your coffee in-shop for some awesome latte art. On my most recent visit, I got their special (pecan pie latte) to go. It was good. The shop is definitely in my rotation of locations to visit when in the area.
