They come to your home which made it convenient and easy. The curriculum, materials, and tutor provided were all fantastic. They did a free assessment for us, and they customized a program which was delivered in the mail a few days after we signed up. They were very professional and friendly on the phone and I could tell they were passionate and knowledgeable about the SAT. It was nice knowing that I was speaking to a real teacher when we had questions, so we always felt confident in the service, and they delivered what they promised. It was a 10 week course, and it cost $1,199. They tracked progress, sent progress reports, and we were able to pay-as-we-go which helped since SAT prep is not cheap. Our son's score significantly improved throughout the program, and we plan to use them for our daughter as well. All in all, it was a no-hassle experience, and I am happy I found them.

His teaching style is to help her figure it out and follow her logic (which was sometimes a crazy route to the answer). He would say "you could also look at this..." to alert her of alternative ways to find an answer. He does assign homework and things to memorize. He's not demanding, it's your choice to listen and follow. My child's success was at stake so we did as we were told. She was very comfortable and saw each lesson as a path to new math discoveries. Derrick made it interesting and she always left empowered. Her parting comment "wow, time really goes by quickly"... who says that after an hour of math?! Sign of a good teacher.

However, my daughter showed up to their facility for tutoring and the tutor was not there, he tried to tutor her over FaceTime! No white board, or any visual adjuncts. He simply tried to talk her through the concepts. Unfortunately, her personality is not the type to say anything except at home, she was actually more confused and the tutor seemed to get frustrated with her. When I called the company up to get an explanation they were a little defensive saying my daughter is getting it, when she is standing next to me shaking her head no! This method of tutoring was not mentioned to us when we had the initial consultation with them and paid for the 14 private sessions and 2 SAT practice tests. The focus of the tutoring was math because that was here weakness with very little to no tutoring on reading comprehension. Funny, she improved 80 points on reading comprehension (no real tutoring) and only 10 points on math. Buyer beware! It appears this company is more focused on the the business aspect rather than the needs of the student! I would not and connot recommend this company.

Many lacked…read moreempathy, patience, knowledge about culture, or how to draw the reader in with more than facts in the short space of word count. JT was the gift she needed. He made himself available, is patient, accommodating and has the worldly life & writing skills to hit all the angles. My daughter did the base work and research on her own for the foundation for her essays, but JT knew how to hone them to make sense, and get everything in the word count without compromising the emotion my girl was seeking. She was distraught and overwhelmed until she found him through word of mouth at school. JT was the first college counselor that could work one on one with her and I didn't have to be part of the process because after reading what they produced, we trusted him. She ultimately earned full tuition in 5 merit scholarships to our local US News ranked top 25 college because she had put in the hard work academically, and holistically through the years, but JT understood her goals to write a story weaving in everything she had done (which was a lot) within the word count without compromising the quality of essays. My recommendation is for your teen do the research on the strongest activities they want to present in a bullet point list, pre-write out factual essays trying to squeeze in a coherent story and then go to JT to help him understand the direction. This saved her time and us money, plus helped her feel confident when they would hang up on what she was to go fix before the next call. She did all by Zoom, and maximized her time this way. From there, they crafted compelling essays that I'm still proud to re-read. Thank you Oxford for finding JT. We could not have gotten through this without him.
