Impossible to miss when driving down the King Georges road with its bright pink sign :)!! Its on the left hand sign on the way to Hurstville and about 50 metres before the entry to the M5 :) I got to an old school gym in beverly hills and one of the hot topic talks is LA donuts, what's your favorite, when's the next visit lol!! When I'm chatting to someone about donuts at LA its always the same response, fluffy and light, not overly sweet, soft, they make the donuts fresh daily. LA DONUTS eat Fresh :D... not like subway lmao !! I'm a bit of a Homer when it comes to food so a favorite is the homer donut also the Apple fritter and the Long Johns & the eclair donut .. tbe sweet tooth shakes haha!! The owner and anyone of the people at the shop have been always super friendly and easy to have a laugh with .. not sure if they laughing about my enjoyement scoffing the donuts down or the amount of times i see they see me come past :D Have to say being a foodie i love my Melbourne visits for anything food but LA Donuts have definately been another addition to putting Sydney on the map contending for the best food in the capital of Aussie mate :)!!

We showed up about an hour til closing and all that was left was one classic donut, a bunch of fairy bread donuts, a couple apple fritters, and some holes. No fancy glazed or stuffed donuts, which was a bit of a letdown. I suppose it's good to know they don't overproduce and leave them sitting out for too long to go stale. As for the classic donut, it's lightly dusted with sugar granules and was thick and fluffy but not too heavy. Good, but not worth a trip for alone. I'm curious to try some more 'exotic' varieties - maybe next time I'll have better luck.

New stores seem to be popping up everywhere and when someone posted a picture on Instagram I decided to try Grumpy Donuts, purely because their packaging looked awesome and they were close by. They were actually in Annandale (in my gps anyway) and were open until 3pm on Friday. It was 2.45pm, just enough time to rush over and get a last minute sugar fix. It may have been the fact that I arrived at 5 minutes to closing or maybe it was the fact they'd been overhyped? I didn't think they were all that mind blowing. Sure they were light and the icing was tasty but I've had better elsewhere. Of course they've only just opened (sept 24) and there was only 3 flavours remaining at this time of day (raspberry, maple and pink lemonade) so perhaps I should reserve judgement and go back at a later date at a much earlier time.

I have always preferred more specialty donut flavors than traditional ones. My favorites in years past have been matcha green tea, earl grey, rose, lavender, etc. So imagine my elation when we stepped inside Shortstop and saw all these phenomenal flavors aligned with my preferences! I, of course, insisted on ordering the triple matcha, while my husband opted for their earl grey and rose. We also ordered coffees, a filtered coffee for my husband a latte for me. Their coffee is sourced from local roasters. The triple matcha had a matcha cake base and was topped with white chocolate, matcha glaze, and matcha icing. I'm never one to say "too much matcha," so this was perfect for me! I had a bite of my husband's earl grey and rose donut, which was a lovely balance of earl grey, lemon myrtle, rosewater, and rose. Highly recommend if you're in Melbourne craving some sweets. We're so glad we stopped in!

After the heaps of recent press about the cookie dough scoops on offer here, I knew I had to take…read moresome time to try it myself. Luckily, I was working the in the city recently and was able to score a half scoop each of the chocolate chip cookie dough and fudge cookie dough. I was blown away by how sweet this mixture was--maybe I would have felt differently if I'd been drunk, but as it was, I could barely make it through 2/3 of the cup before I had to toss it out. Still tasty, but very, very rich! They also serve "dough pucks" in a small range of flavors and American style coffee--all of which smelled good and might be worth a try. The woman behind the counter was kind, but I got the impression she was a little "over it" when it came to answering questions about the product and helping people decide which flavors to buy. Their hours are a little unusual (1-9pm) and she must be tired of answering questions about that, too. Kind of a shame--who doesn't love a sneaky midmorning donut run? Now that I've tried it once I probably don't need to go back--fun gimmick, though!
