Steff, who was pleasant and professional during our conversation, said she would try to get a technician to my home today. I was quoted a price for the job which was fair and reasonable. Thirty minutes later, a Kiwi utility truck entered my driveway. Technicians Gabe and Regan introduced themselves and I gave them an overview of my woodstove and chimney. They wasted no time and immediately went to work. They thoroughly cleaned the chimney and removed all the glazed creosote; they went on to clean the stove, stove pipe, chimney cap and screen. A thorough inspection was performed, and I was happy to hear the clay flue was in good shape. Upon completion of the job, they vacuumed the area around my stove and cleaned up loose debris from outside. These two gentlemen did a great job and where very personable, knowledgeable. Gabe was at the ready with information on products currently on the market for upgrades and equipment that enhanced safety of wood burning stoves and chimney liners. This afternoon, I received an email from Gabe with my inspection report and before and after photos. What an absolute satisfying experience from start to finish with Kiwi. Probably had a breakdown in communication or something. Some weeks go by whilst I'm contacting other places for quotes. Long story short, I stuck with Alpha because they are honestly the most affordable option here. I call again, get a quote of $150 (even though the previous quote was 100 dollars less, but whatever), set a date for a full month later, call to reverify the appointment since nobody reached out via email or phone to reassure me I still had an appointment, got the time window narrowed down to one half hour (very impressive), dude comes out, inspects my chimney in 5 minutes, charges me the original quote of $50 and he's out. Bing-bang-boom! We got ourselves a usable chimney for the next foreseeable year. My only problems were regarding appointment confirmation and (evidently) receiving misquotes. The relationship ended before the chimney cleaning and resealing of a furnace vent into the chimney was done. However, I would recommend the following when dealing with the owner, John. These are practices that you could use with any vendor who works on your home. 1) Make sure that the proposal is broken down in terms of how much he is charging for each service (i.e. repointing, painting, chimney sweeping etc...). DO NOT accept a total cost only proposal. 2) Avoid being pushed into paying any money beyond the initial deposit before all the work is completed. 3) Do some research to determine how much his price for services compares to those charged by his peers in the area.
