After a long hiatus, my back issues crept back up and I started looking desperately for someone to help here in Southern Maine. Amy - like everyone else in the area - was completely booked up on the Friday/Saturday that I was hunting for. But after she could tell I was desperate, she STAYED LATE on Saturday to squeeze me in. And it was seriously awesome. Fantastic, relaxing, thorough massage. Now we communicate about appointments via text. She contributes to the pittie rescues in the area. She lets me know when she has an opening on the weekends (to support my work schedule). She asks about my pets. She laughs at my jokes. She offers me protein shakes or water when the massage is over. She warns me before she puts on the hot stones (even though I wish she didn't, the shock is awesome). She uses Square for CC payments, which is convenient as all get out. Oh yah, she gives rockstar massages, too. I always feel like a million (super relaxed, worthless for a couple of hours) bucks after leaving her office. If you're after deep tissue, this isn't the place...but if you need an excellent massage that will leave you dozing off occasionally, you must go see Amy. I've probably been in to see her a half dozen times already. And I'll keep going back.

As soon as she started working on me, I recognized that Thai Massage is more than a job to her, it is a craft. It is something that she actively studies, and as I later learned, has been actively studying for many years. Many therapists go to massage school for a year, then go to work, taking an occasional, often random class to learn something new. Jessica, on the other hand, consistently fine-tunes her work, works with a master to improve her abilities in Thai massage and Thai medicine. It's the difference between going to playing basketball in college for a year and then doing 7 years of pick-up games with your coworkers, vs. getting consistent coaching with a professional basketball player for 7 years straight. You get Really Good. This is a longwinded way of saying that I really respect Jessica's work, as well as her approach. Our session was both relaxing and effective. She did point-specific, deep tissue massage work in a way that was engaging, comfortable, fascinating, and peaceful. All I could think throughout the session was "How is she doing this?" and "Can I get this three times a week??" Also, she works in a really cool house that's been converted into a healing arts center. That was pretty awesome. Cheers!

I love to describe my experience with Jessica as a cross between a massage and a stretching work out - but one where I don't have to do anything! I really feel that receiving thai massage from Jessica is such a huge gift to my body, and really has helped me tune in and connect to my body, and move forward with some of my body issues. I've discovered where some of my little trouble areas are (and not so little!), and have learned a lot about how to relax more successfully. And, to top it all off, the fact that Jessica is also a yoga teacher that is able to give me customized yoga positions after knowing what exactly my body needs, is the icing on the cake. On top of all that, you can tell that Jessica truly cares about your body, and treats it in a loving, nurturing, affirming way. And is completely focused on helping you get what you need to progress into full harmony with your body & self.

I wanted to relax and deal with some neck pain, and after a lot of research, I landed on SOMA. They were able to fit us in on my birthday proper, and although they didn't have joint rooms for a proper couples massage, I was happy to know he was getting pampered down the hall. They were also accommodating and able to push our appointment a bit when we realized we were running late. Amy was a dream. She integrates holistic bodywork into her practice, and it was just what I needed. She was so intuitive and understood exactly what kind of pressure and strokes I needed, and I left feeling so refreshed and like I was walking on a cloud. Amy was very friendly and warm and we chatted a bit but not too much; just the perfect amount. My partner also really enjoyed his massage and felt looser and more agile. I chose this place because they had availability and had great reviews online. The two main reasons I did not like the experience is because we received the wrong massages. Instead of stone massages we received standard massages. Our masseuse was very apologetic when she realized the error while checking us out. I appreciate her confirming that because I otherwise would have thought that's just what stone massages are like. The second reason is because it was hard to relax. There are two massage rooms and the waiting room. We unfortunately could hear everything in the next room because the other masseuse talked very loudly to her patients. All this being said, the massage itself worked. I had some crazy tension in my neck/shoulders area and Brogan worked them right out! She was a professional with the massage and owning the mix-up with massage types. I really loved working with her and would still come back if she had an opening.
