Finding out that someone has ripped you off completely can be a very stressful discovery. Say you go to a mechanic for an MOT and he fails your car and suggests £350 worth of work that needs doing. He then takes his £45 up front for the MOT test and "strongly suggests" that you get the work done at his Auto repairs shop. If you go somewhere else and get another quote or repairs, you can come back to get it retested without any additional MOT test costs. BUT, it's highly likely he/she might fail it again and suggest more repairs just out of bitterness. Eventually you find a mechanic who treats the car as his/her own and suggests cost effective ways of geting the job done with your circumstances in mind. For example there's no point you spending £90 on a wing mirror for a car you plan on part exchanging when you can get it repaired for £10. This is a family run garage with great friendly service. I spent a few hours at the here while they serviced/MOT'd it. Normally I do this to keep an eye on the job being done, keep them on their toes. You get it done quicker that way and they don't procrastinate. On this occasion though I found myself merrily chatting away and getting to know Yassar, Hamza and Ali. What a great bunch of young lads! The three were cousins and varied in terms of mechanical experiance, but the banter and enjoyment they got outta their work was inspirational. Whilst there, I also saw how people treat these mechanics when they come in for MOTs. I was frankly shocked by the obnoxious nature of some people who weren't very subtle in hiding their attempts at looking down on these highly skilled and knowledgable individuals. I began to see why so many mechanics are always moody and evasive. All of these revelations made me appreciate these guys even more. They were just happy to have a customer who actually asked them how their day was going. I shall be coming back here for my MOT from now on and reassured them that I'd spread the word. So there...I've done it.. So don't be put off by the secluded nature of this place, or the fact that it looks rundown and a bit grimey. The service is very good!

Well mine's been into Cross Street Garage for all three in the last couple of months and yes, it has cost me significantly, but the friendly, honest and thorough mechanics there are the main reason I returned again and again. Terry, who runs the garage, is very open and up front about what they do: "We don't fit cheap parts" is his mantra, so you know that although you'll be paying a bit more than expected, it's much cheaper than going to a dealership for a service or alternatively buying cheap parts somewhere and therefore buying twice when they ultimately fail. They picked up on minor issues that should have been fixed in the four previous services I'd had at another garage, such as the headlights being wrongly aligned and the cabin air filter behind the glove box having never been replaced - it was full of grime. Fully recommend these guys for the peace of mind of knowing your car will run at it's absolute best.

I recently required the services of a vehicle bodywork repairer after someone reversed into my car…read morewhile it was parked outside my house. Fortunately, those pesky reprobates didn't count on someone witnessing the incident as well as the guilty party driving away without stopping! As such, with the involvement of the Police and my insurer, I have fortunately been in the position to get the work fixed at zero cost to myself... Step-in Lancashire Motor Bodies, saviour of the hour and supplier of some of the best customer service I have ever had the pleasure of receiving. True, I didn't have to shop around as they are the preferred repairer of my insurer, but I have to say that I was a little sceptical on first researching them as there were only a couple of aged reviews on the web (not on Yelp, obviously!) and these weren't exactly glowing. Well, my experience was different. On finding them, tucked away as they are in Salford, but only 30 seconds off Bury New Road, you could be mislead by the exterior of the business premises, as it isn't exactly glamorous, but then again, it is a car bodywork repairer! However, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They lead me through the whole process with my insurer, collected my car and delivered a courtesy car which was mine free of charge, phoned me regularly with updates on the work and again when it was finished. They even returned my car, resplendent with new front wing, fully valeted inside and out. I couldn't recommend them highly enough and think they are well worth every one of the 5 stars I'm giving them. I hope you don't require their services, but if you do, they'll look after you (and your car!).

The service was outstanding, excellent job my car went in Wednesday afternoon & was back with me by Friday afternoon, the panel that had been scraped badly looked as smooth, shiny & new as when I first bought the car. Every member of staff was friendly, gave me regular updates & knew what they were talking about. They definitely exceeded my expectations & I would feel very happy sending my car there again.

No phone call so returned to the garage a few hours later, to find they had already started fixing my exhaust (I needed a whole new exhaust the mechanic said) yet the guy would not tell me how long it would take or how much it would approximately cost. Hence I told him to put my car back into its previous condiditon. At first he refused to do this but eventually after much complaining he did. Afterwards the car sounded worse than before. Took it to another garage who said I did not need a whole new exhaust but just one part. Also the mechanic at Ridgeway Motors had taken a vital part of my exhaust off and not put it back on - the reason the car sounded so bad! (I can only presume he sold the part as scrap metal) So I had to pay for this new part also. Dishonest and unprofessional - dont go there!
