The chicken and lamb are cut up into larger chunks and are flavorful. The lamb specifically has a cardamom/cinnamon flavor which makes it truly unique. The rice is tender, the salad is good, and although I fell into a food coma afterwords, the entire combo felt somewhat lighter than what you usually get at a famous halal cart that shall not be named. With all that being said, for full indulgence maybe go for the fries? The hummus was good, not great. But the falafel was a let down. Definitely tough a bit drier than I anticipated. But, for the value and the amount of food you receive, its definitely worth a visit!

SAMMY's HALAL IS THE BEST AND HERES WHY…read more I've been eating halal for over 13 years and have worked at two halal restaurants myself, one serving Syrian-Palestinian cuisine and another blending Middle Eastern and South Asian flavors; I'm very familiar with halal ingredients, preparation, and flavor profiles. What stood out to me about Sammy's Halal Food is that the meat is well seasoned ahead of time and then finished on the grill per order, which really elevates the freshness and flavor. I ordered the mixed chicken and lamb protein bowl, kofta sandwich, and samosas. The bowl was packed with flavor and sauce options, I went with the classic white and red with a little green, plus toppings like jalapeños, banana peppers, tomatoes, pickled carrots, pepper garlic, feta, and hummus. The lamb was tender and flavorful while the chicken added a perfect kick, especially cooked with onions. The kofta sandwich was just as impressive, the bread holds up well even to-go, the meat is rich and filling, and the creamy chipotle sauce with lettuce and tomato ties it all together. The owner was incredibly kind and even introduced me to Saudi Arabian dates to break my fast. I've already been back twice for the same order, and my girlfriend loved the sandwich as well. After living on Long Island for a while, it's refreshing to finally have a halal spot this flavorful and satisfying nearby. Ambiance was clean, and food is affordable.

So sad. I really wanted to like this place because it is 3 minutes from my home and I heard their…read morefried chicken was quite good. The fried chicken is really good, so are the buffalo wings. The fries are slightly above average but they could have fried them until they were crispy. Everything else? Terrible. Firstly this place is a take out joint. We were told it would be ready in no more than 20 minutes (on a weeknight, order placed at 4:45 PM) It took an hour and 5 minutes. No apologies, not short staffed, not slammed with customers. Now for the food: Gyro - the smallest gyro we have ever seen and half of it was an insanely thick pita. This is a Halal place??? Onion rings - pathetic, I think they were from the supermarket frozen section. Philly cheesesteak - HALF the sandwich had NO MEAT, no NOTHING. 12 inch sub, they filled 5 inches of it maybe a quarter inch thick. Saddest philly cheesesteak I have ever seen. Adding insult to injury we asked for extra white sauce and green sauce, sure, no problem. They gave us nothing. The only thing in the bag was 5 ketchup packets. I tried to get a refund on the Philly Cheesesteak through the app that I ordered from. They contacted the restaurant who blatantly lied and stated that they delivered the order on time and that the sandwich was perfect. They lied over 7 dollars. Never again. Not giving them my money for them to treat us this poorly.

However, I did not like the lamb. It tasted like hamburger meat, and it was tough. Tahir, one of the cooks, noticed that I hardly touched the lamb kofta, so he asked me what was wrong, and when I told him, he offered me that another skewer of beef kofta. Now that's good customer service. The basmati rice was delicious. I could not stop eating it. Tahir said that it is brown because he puts gravy and different spices in it. The salad was okay. The restaurant was relatively clean despite the huge traffic. I will return here, just to order the beef kofta with basmati rice (no salad, please).
