We were in the market for an upright piano and, seriously, we were NOT looking forward to dealing with trying to find the right one. Especially since neither my wife or I know how to play! We just felt too vulnerable to misinformation, both from online websites and at the stores. So we went into Music Exchange with a VERY skeptical attitude! What happened over the next hour was refreshing, educating, comforting and gratifying. The person that came to help us was Richard Olsen, the store manager. Richard did not display ANY of the traits of a salesperson! This is just my opinion, but I don't think he cared if we bought a piano or not! That is how non-pressure our experience was. Totally refreshing! Richard launched into the incredible and detailed history of Yamaha pianos. Without belaboring any particular area of Yamaha history, he elucidated all the pertinent facts, not hype or BS, regarding how Yamaha has come to produce a high quality piano; even throwing in how the later manufacturing of Yamaha motorcycles has affected the design of their pianos. Very educating, not to mention intriguing story! I discussed many ancillary issues with Richard such as matching the piano size with our room acoustics, the need to be able to play silently, our music taste, what we wanted to accomplish with the piano and additional areas that Richard pointed out as being important when purchasing a piano. Richard made many of his points by physically taking us into different rooms and giving us examples of what he was verbally explaining. Very comforting indeed! When we started honing in on two or three pianos we were considering, Richard played them for us so we could hear the differences. Then he showed us the many features; I don't mean he talked about them, he physically showed us; from opening the piano tops and plucking strings to plugging in headphones to showcase the silent feature. So we settled on a piano, settled on a price, paid for it and excitedly waited for it to be delivered in 3 days. A very gratifying experience as we have purchased the piano we wanted, even though we did not know exactly what that was when we walked into the Music Exchange store. I also want to mention how sweet the woman was that was dusting off the pianos while we were there. She had a great sense of humor. I also want to say how impressed we were with the three people that brought our piano to us and set it up. They arrived in the evening and did not exhibit any sign of fatigue, even though I knew it had been a long day of delivering and setting up pianos. They were totally professional, courteous and thorough. From the first information gathering phone call to setting up training on our new digital piano, Jeff was helpful, patient and knowledgable. The Music Exchange had a wide variety of both acoustic upright and digital pianos at a variety of price points to choose from. As a beginner, I was appreciative of Jeff's ability to teach us the difference between the two and he did an amazing job of demonstrating the features. We were never pressured into one kind over the other, Jeff genuinely wanted us to find the right piano for our needs and encouraged us to talk to other customers about what piano they decided on and why. Once we knew what we wanted, Jeff was able to help us with the purchasing and delivery very quickly. Mike Murphy's piano moving had it to us in two days! Mr. Murphy arrived promptly when he said he would and was very professional and kind. From top to bottom, our experience with the Music Exchange was top notch! We look forward to working with them again in the future. For those of you who may be curious- We purchased a Yamaha CLP 645 Clavinova and we couldn't be happier. It has a big sound in a smaller sleek body that will never need to be tuned and can easily be moved by two people... Plus I enjoy being able to use the headphones to practice (remember I am a beginner) when my family is milling about or asleep. We decided on this particular model because it has weighted, wooden keys and I had read in the reviews that will provide a more authentic feel moving from a digital to an acoustic upright (which my teacher has). There are a ton of features and like most technology, it's a very powerful tool if you know how to use it. From the very first time I entered The Music Exchange in 2007, Jim has been an excellent educator - he is more than a salesman. He helped me find my first entry-level Yamaha Clavinova and encouraged me to feel good about my purchase. He listens and is genuinely interested in my experience in shopping for a piano. Over time, I wanted to upgrade my piano, so I exchanged it for a more advanced model Clavinova. Once again, he was there to help my experience to be a comfortable and meaningful one. I had to part with my piano in 2008 and was financially unable to purchase one the last time I visited the store. Nevertheless, Jim was attentive, kind and encouraging, even though I couldn't purchase one at the time. More recently, I made the trip to The Music Exchange to try again. Jim was there--remembered me personally as he has each time I've visited--and spent a great deal of time encouraging me to feel good about myself in renewing my musical talent. He has never used a high-pressure approach. He is kind, compassionate and a great listener. He has, as each time, listened to my needs, guided me to the piano I could afford, and made me feel uplifted when I left. This time I was able to purchase another Clavinova, and Jim helped me to feel good about my purchase. Even if I had not been in a position to purchase today, he would have still been there with me every minute to help encourage me to pursue my dream and reach for the stars. He is totally different from other companies who may leave you for a more promising prospect. He never loses interest or compassion for you. We were looking for a piano that would fit the needs of our child who was progressing in her piano lessons beyond the limits of her first digital keyboard. After spending some time and effort doing research we looked at the nearby piano stores in our area. Both Piano sales places we decided to visit had competent and enthusiastic staff. What put us over the edge to decide on Music Exchange was twofold. First we really liked the Yamaha products for digital pianos, and second when we spoke to Jeff at Music Exchange he was, simply put, helpful, low pressure, and answered all our questions. He showed us various lines of digital pianos in our budget range. After 30 minutes of comparing the differences in the attributes of pianos in our budget range, we left armed with much better knowledge, and a promise to honor a specific sale price that was ending in a couple of days, even if we decided not to purchase until the following week. We went home researched some more and returned two days later to purchase. The delivery by Michael was timely and professional and it was in our home and set up by the time our child returned home for the day: a nice surprise. I loved everything about my experience with Jeff and Sherie at Music exchange in Sacramento. Let me start by saying not only did I get someone with incredible knowledge about pianos, I can honestly say he is one of the nicest most genuine people I've ever met. I wanted a piano but had no clue where to start. I randomly called a few music stores explaining my situation. Wow! Where do I begin? I stopped by Music Exchange today in search of a new Yamaha U1, and to my delight, they had one on the showroom floor. After playing it for a couple minutes, a gentleman by the name of Jeff Gillespie greeted me and asked me if he could help me with anything. I told him that I was looking to upgrade to a better piano, and he informed me of my options. When I decided in favor of the U1, he began preparing my paperwork and worked diligently to secure me the best deal. (Related to this, I tell you Mr. Gillespie managed to save me a few thousand dollars.) He worked so diligently, in fact, that the buying process took less than thirty minutes. He scheduled a prompt delivery of the U1 and set the appropriate expectations. I should mention he also gave me a gift--that's right, piano polish for the U1's finish. I really appreciated that. This was my first time purchasing a new piano, a Yamaha B3, but what a pleasure it was! Richard Olsen took time to explain everything to me and answer all my questions as if I was the only customer in the store (although I kind of was, that day!). As others have said, I didn't feel rushed or pressured in any way, and we even discussed pros and cons of the used inventory they had. Richard really LOVES pianos, you can tell. He didn't try to push my outside my budget, and explained all the technical aspects of this amazing instrument. In fact, I didn't even buy it that day since I wanted to go home and do some of my own research, and also wanted to try a similar style by a different maker (at a different store). When I returned a week or so later, I felt like Richard gave me an honest comparison of the Yamaha to the other piano that was totally in line with what the other seller had told me. In fact, the other seller told me the price Richard had quoted for the Yamaha was a great deal! As an added bonus, Richard was able to arrange for the piano mover bringing the new piano to take my old piano to its new owner at a cost savings to that buyer, which worked out great. Just bought a beautiful, used 2012 Falcone petite grand Georgian series piano, in rich mahogany wood. The Music Exchange just had a great piano sale. We saved money and got a great deal. The customer service at The Music Exchange store here was outstanding. Very honest, not pushy, no hard sells, answered all questions, allowed us to go home and research about certain piano brands. We came back the next day and purchased what we wanted. Piano warranty is included, even on used pianos. The prices were excellent and hard to beat, even after researching what other piano sellers are asking for. Our customer service sales rep was Gary, from the San Francisco store. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything. Delivery was the very next day! Delivery came right on time (within two-hour window) and Mike and staff were very careful in the delivery and set-up of the piano. They did NOT do a hurry-up job. They took the time to unload, assemble, and position the piano for me. Everything worked out well. We are glad we purchased our piano at The Music Exchange. When its time to upgrade, we will definitely check them out again because they have an excellent upgrade policy too. read more

I've been playing the piano for over 30 years and have never owned my own instrument. Had an upright growing up in my parents place and purchased a Korg N1 in 97 that somehow still turns on to this day. I finally decided that it was time to play some Chopin and Rachmaninoff on a piano that could do the music some justice! BUT it had to be a piano that I could also afford. After researching Yamaha pianos in the Chico area I was referred to Richard Olsen at Music Exchange in Sacramento. Upon arriving at the store with my 2 children ages 2 and 3 months, Richard greeted my family nicely and proceeded to answer all of my questions while asking the right ones of his own. It was a great experience working with Jeff choosing and purchasing my piano. He was so patient as I played nearly every piano in the store (continually going back to the one I adored, but wasn't sure if it would fit in my living room). He cheerfully and knowledgeably answered all of my questions about the differences between the different models I was looking at. He sent me home with a template so that I could see if the piano would fit in my living room and reserved the piano for three days while I researched and finally made up my mind that this was the best piano for me AND best deal I could find on this model. Delivery was solid and they were able to deliver within a week (even though it was a very busy time due to the sale). Cut to one month later when I called Jeff to ask if he could come out to move the piano one foot, because I had placed it too close to the wall for my playing comfort. We went in during March of 2019, and were helped by a charming young man named Jeff. We were interested in the Yamaha upright pianos, but were confused over the different models, options & prices. Jeff was friendly, and took his time explaining, demonstrating & showing us the features of all the models. He took interest in what would be best for us & our needs. He matched us up with the Yamaha U3sh2 silent upright piano. We got a real deal with the sale that was going on, which fit our budget perfectly. We even got 0% financing, and free delivery ! This piano plays like a regular piano, but has a silent feature which plays with headphones, so not to disturb others in household. Other sounds can be played over earphones or speakers, like harps, organ, ect. We got the most bang for our buck ! They do have a large selection of pianos from grands to electric. I purchased Yamaha WX-7, (1998 made in Japan) on May 2018. We were just lucky to find that piano when I first visit the store. The piano maintained nicely, and owned by only one owner in town. Jeff helped me to find right piano for us. There were a lot of piano in the store. So, even if I researched and had in strong mind what to purchase, I was overwhelmed what was the right choice for us. Jeff showed new and used pianos and explained clearly what is different between them. When you visit there and he helps you, then you will know how much he knows about piano in depth. Finally, we ended up Yamaha WX-7 and our 2 kids enjoy playing a lot. We also got free tuning service from Alex. It was little hard to make an appointment but you will deserve to wait when Alex is able to come and tune your piano. He is the best tuner we ever had. Aside of purchasing experience, they did good customer care like on time delivery service with notification and delicate move your piano and place it at my home. It has been 5 months since we bought our piano at Music Exchange. We have been thinking about buying a piano for my daughter because she wanted to learn how to play it. We went in to learn about electric pianos for our daughter and were greeted by Jeff, who was exceptional with his customer service and knowledge around pianos. We watched him set two other customers up to play on baby grands (extraordinary luck), and were treated to breathtaking melodies by these talented folks.
