Recently I purchased an iPhone, rendering my iPod Touch a bit obsolete. Not wanting to throw it away, I searched online and discovered the charity Music & Memory. They use donated iPods to help dementia patients. The iPods are erased of personal data (I did this myself beforehand with help from an Apple tech) and reloaded with music specific to each patient's tastes. They find that the patients become less agitated and more socially engaged.
I've had several aunts and uncles who have died of dementias (mostly Alzheimer's) so this program really speaks to my heart. Also I'm very pleased that my iPod, which was very good to me, will have a second life, and one that benefits someone in need.
They accept donations of all types of iPods, new and used, and charging cords. If you are interested in donating, the website address is www.musicandmemory.org and they are located at 160 First Street, PO Box 590, Mineola NY. read more
