One of the few music stores in Raleigh that actually has a sound stage that's set up for recording…read morein a back room. Visit them on Tuesday nights to enjoy the open mic musicians and one Friday night a month for an open mic for praise and worship musicians. Steve, the owner, is very helpful (so is his wife). His son, David is running a little coffee shop on the opposite side of the store so be sure to order an espresso or cappucino while you're browsing over the instruments and equipment. This store specializes in guitars, guitar equipment and providing lessons. The instructors are top notch and if you've ever heard any of them play you'd wonder why in the world they settled for giving lessons. Why aren't they playing in some big name famous band somewhere with all the talent they have in them? I think these guys have more talent in their little pinkies than I have in my entire being but that's beside the point. When this shop gets guitars in, it's tough for them to keep most of those instruments in stock. My latest (big) purchase here was a mandolin - not that I'm any good at playing it, but I want to learn. Steve found me a decent quality Ovation acoustic electric mandolin at a very reasonable price that will far outlast some of the much more inexpensive beginner mandolins he typically has in stock. My last comments revolve around the techs who work on the guitars here. Not every broken down guitar is a success story and some just cannot be fixed. One of Steve's techs did wonders with one of my basses. I had an old Kramer Striker I'd gotten at a pawn shop years ago that was now virtually unplayable. This tech not only made it playable, but made it such that I was willing to part with my Fender P-bass shortly thereafter. Since then, the same tech has done set up work for me on almost all of my guitars, getting them all back into top playing shape.

Wonderful music school with reasonable prices. I am so glad I found this place. They have an…read moreextensive list of instruments they can help you work on. I might even take more than one class here someday. Amazing staff. Very responsive. Highly recommend. Such a blessing.

Born Again Guitars - Every guitar player has had a favorite "go to" guitar. Here is a shot of me when i started out...a '61 Strat...and I loved it.

After our first conversation I knew that Hans was (and is) THE guy. His easy going nature and passion for the instrument are genuinely evident and his professionalism borders on artistry.....the guy is a certified luthier, after all. Finding him within about 10 miles (I live in Wendell) was like finding an authentic Chicago (my home town) Deep Dish pizza place in Raleigh.....actually, there's no comparison. Hans wins hands-down. I won't go into some of the people he has run into over the years buying and selling and setting up guitars, but let's just say there some VERY big names there, ones that everyone would recognize. And unlike maybe about 85 -90% of most people, he doesn't plaster their names all over his website, monetizing them.....he just has a lot of really cool photos in his office. And a lot of great memories, I'm sure. On top of doing absolutely top-notch work (he had 'em done in about 3 days), he also spent an hour with me going over chords and other basic stuff....like I said, I am newly retired and a complete know-nothing newbie. In spite of that, he treated me with kindness and respect. Hans is the real deal. Not only is he outstanding at what he does but he is also just a great guy and a total class act. I love my new guitars, but the best investment I made was taking them to Hans' Born Again Guitars. Now I KNOW they are Ready To Rock! (His words).

Great service, engaging owner / luthier. Hans assessed the neck on my bass and found some issues…read more The vendor agreed to replace it and then Hans did a great setup for me.

Born Again Guitars - It's great to welcome the musicians who stop by the shop. Providing quality guitar restoration & repair work for them is a real pleasure.

There used to be four great music stores here and now we are down to one, and luckily, they are hanging in there. Harry has actually retired but the employees are still there. I always steer my students there since you can get a decent uke for just over $100. Then you can take your time to get a better uke once you are sure you want to get better. If you don't get their complete attention, it usually means they are dealing with a difficult customer, but they will get to you.

I met Harry Tueting the year he opened Harry's Guitars on Glenwood Avenue near downtown Raleigh. I bought strings and played new guitars I could not buy- no steady job. Still I had a clunker to bang on. I took lessons from Steve Howell in the early years. I met Terry Dineen when he began some years later. He was just a kid but he knew a lot more about guitars than I did. I'd played since I was 12, on cheap guitars, but I played. Thanks to the things I learned through visiting this business, I've developed into a modestly decent player. I've met musicians of every skill level in a place where I feel welcome. I've listened to people crank the amps and play for HOURS. No one ever objected. I know and understand the value of a good guitar. I've bought -and returned- guitars from Harry's. Nobody complained. I read the bad reviews given herein and I am STUNNED. Perhaps the reviewers are (1) upset because they did something out of ignorance and can't get over it or (2) have an ax to grind because they weren't regarded as royalty or (3) are simply mean spirited. I cannot in any way associate anyone I know, or have known, at Harry's Guitars with the ugliness I read in those "reviews". Not under Harry's watch. Not under Scott and Mike's watch. Not in the real world.
