Used to visit Museum Village in the 1960s believe it or not as a day camp trip from NYC. I would imagine the place has virtually no money and probably depends on volunteers. The website is sadly out of date and talks about a fundraiser that just happened that seems to have happened three years ago! We were there recently and I have to say it looks really ratty, worn out grimy, peeling paint and neglected. It's probably not nice to say this without volunteering to help out but I can't do that. Went here yesterday (5/5/2023) to attend "A Murder Is Announced", which is a play that they were doing this year. I enjoyed seeing A Murder mystery, and wanted to go there because I like horror movies, so why not attend this show. Overall enjoyed it. Definetely suggest if one has any hearing disabilities, get some seats towards the front, it really helps! Also enjoyed the dessert at intermission, but why only vanila? I prefer chocolate. I also didn't like the apple pie, as i put in the last review- how about different flavor pies? enjoyed the ice cream though at least. Also their restrooms seemed pretty clean, so that's good. Museum Village is a small local farm community where businesses band together to preserve and foster farming practices of the earlier times pre-metropolitan, pre-urbanize industrialism. Upon entering our party of four were immensely greeted and welcomed for a indoor farmer's market offering free food samples that are locally grown. Museum Village is a nice school field trip where students learn farming history and how to preserve the past but keep a determined future mindset with technology and progress. I am not sure if there are guided group tours for school children. There were no staff member to provide information educational knowledge about 19th or early 20th century farming or lifestyle pre-digital age, pre-machinery of manual labor for our party of four. This farm community village depicts life as it was of U.S. 19th century and possibly early 20th century, but no staff member wore clothing from this era for a authentic look nor were there any period songs played in the background as a glimpse of history. Progress has both advantages and disadvantages, but it cannot be obstructed with the passage of time progress is evolved further. I wanted to see 19th century and early 20th century daily farming lifestyle activities or routine: schooling, housekeeping duties, farming activities, etc. I believe the concept of a farm community is good, but it must be active in the engagement with visitors. My party of four had the opportunity to see and hear roasters emit crowing sound it was all natural no recording studio sound effects heard here. There is a functioning wind mill on the premise as well as limited live stock farm animals: roasters, chickens, cows, and quails. Select animals are free to roam in a open space without fences while cows are, unfortunately, fenced within. There are some hay visible on the grounds. I was hoping to see farm workers to tend a plow grain, make hay, cut corn, water vegetables, milk cows, farm tools, chop wood for wood burning fireplace. read more

This place is awful! Minimal interactions available for kids. I just chaperoned my sons first grade class and the children and parents were bored to tears. The "actors" seemed bored, unmotivated and super unfriendly! The lady in the candle making house needs to hang up her wick! She was incredibly nasty to the children, yelling at them and yelling at the parents and teachers. She made it very clear she wanted absolute silence in that house and did not want to hear the children. It was a class trip, the children were excited to finally go on a class trip. You could hear a pin drop in there, she had them so scared. The best part of the trip was when the children got to play tag outside on the lawn. This place was a bust! There was nothing there. I would post the video of the candlemaker, I want to protect the privacy of the kids. The candle maker should not be allowed to work with children and the rest of them could use some training. read more

I loved this place as a little girl, and now I love it as a mom.not much has changed and that's just the way I like it. Everything seems to change these days, faster, more modern, flashier...more shopping. I expected the worst and was delighted to be thrown back in time just as I was 20 years ago. Another fantastic trip to Museum Village! The entire fourth grade from our school district has been visiting this establishment for the past 20 years and the students love it every year. The docents are so knowledgeable and the artifacts and environment make the students feel like they have really taken a trip back in time. This experience pairs nicely with our Colonial America unit and allows the students to experience what life was like back then first hand. They were even able to make candles and dye bracelets just like the people did during the 18th century. We highly recommend visiting this amazing "village" and are looking forward to coming back next year! read more

This place is the best place to take family to see historical places. It is so fun to be at. The tours are great and the place is beautiful. Everything for what it is is very clean and well taken care of. It's a great place to send your kids to volunteer if you need school ours. The civil war reenactments are magnificent to watch, even all the young ones have fun. I would take my friends and family to this place any day. There's even a fully put together mastodon! There's only three fully put together in the country and one of them is there! The environment there is so friendly. They have chickens and roosters that can freely walk around. They have giant turkeys and other fun animals at the barn there. All of the old artifacts there are so nicely taken care of. In some of the buildings you can do hands on work like the candle shop. You can make your own wax candles there! The staff there are very very friendly and fun to talk to. Everyone can enjoy the wonders of museum village even if your there alone! read more

Our class trip was to Museum Village. We traveled with about 100 students and adults to the museum. We were greeted and provided with directions as to how to move about the museum. The children had a great time visiting the different museum venues and learning about life in the past. The staff was well informed and did a great job including the children in their presentations. Many of the venues offered the children and opportunity to participate. We had a picnic style lunch that we brought and enjoyed the green in the middle when we needed a break. The many wondering chickens made the green extra fun! Overall it was a great day for the first graders! read more

My elementary school has had the pleasure of visiting Museum Village quite a number of times for well over a decade. I can truly say that with the passing of each year the visit experience has only grown better and it was excellent from the start. This clearly reflects the staff's unwavering dedication to both caring meticulously for the grounds and providing an enriching experience for their guests. Museum Village is an amazing place for a field trip. Our school district has been taking the third graders for well over 15 years. It is very manageable if you have chaperones take smaller groups, and there is such rich history in the preserved artifacts. The staff working there transports you back in time as you visit each building. There is an old schoolhouse, drugstore, candle maker, broom maker and blacksmith, among other things. There are items that the children get to take home after learning the craft and trying their hand at it themselves. In these modern times, it is amazing to see kids full of wonder at all of the ingenious inventions of that time. read more

I've been going to Museum Village since I was a little girl. It's a fantastic place. The variety of artifacts and things to see is incredible. The place is very scenic, quiet and just lovely to walk around on. Each building is filled with fascinating objects from the 19th century, and the reenactors are wonderful! You can learn how to use a printing press, make candles, brooms, and more. It's a fantastic trip for families and adults alike! And very reasonable to get in. I highly recommend it! read more
