On our trip to The Netherlands, we took a train to Haarlem to visit the Museum van de Geest- museum of the mind. I was a psychology minor in undergrad and so was my friend, so we were both excited to visit. This museum was super close to the train station as well.
If you aren't familiar with mental health disorders, this might be a good museum for you, as the majority of the exhibits have people sharing stories about their lives and mental health struggles. Some of those stories are also shared through art at the end of the tour. I did enjoy reading the quotes and took pictures of some to look at on days when I struggle.
I wish this museum had been more interactive and easier to navigate. I found myself needing breaks due to the content itself and the vast amount of exhibits, but the museum doesn't have many benches, chairs, or places to sit. The large room toward the end has a lot of exhibits on mental healthcare history, and it was my favorite area, but it was a little busy and overwhelming, especially at the end of the tour.
Like Nick said, I wouldn't make a trip to Haarlem just for this museum, but if you have the time it is convenient and a good place to visit. read more
