Of all the museums in the Netherlands, the ones we went to and those we just looked into, I loved this one the most. It was about the history of windmills in Netherlands, the daily duties of the miller and the structure of a windmill. I can imagine this could be a very interesting tour for kids ( and those guys who are into engineering).
The entrance fee was €3.50 and included a guide. The guides are volunteers who take care of this windmill in Haarlem. This windmill is owned by the city and only has historic value. A miller still works there a few days per week. Apparently, this windmill was burned down to the ground in 1930s and was rebuild in the 90s.
The guide took us all the way up to the top of the windmill and explained everything about how a windmill is made, how it is adjusted based on the wind speed and how corn flour is made via the force generated from the wind.
Very very interesting.... Highly recommended. The only issue was that our guide was really hard to understand since he was sort of struggling to explain everything in English. read more
