Incredible perserved means of transportation. All the coches are well documented, with the century they belong to and who was using them. As well the purpose of the coche. On the side they also had some of the accessories they use. This museum currently is free during the week if you are a resident.

This was seriously cool! We had this on our list to see but not at the top of the list. We happened to be close by so we decided to stop in and thought we would spend a few minutes and move on. We ended up spending 2 hours and seeing everything and loved it way more than I would have thought. The detail, history, and unique coaches all with information about them and all different styles, it was really cool! This is for sure worth a stop. We used the Lisbon pass for a discount. It is well laid out, it wasn't busy when we were there but even it if was I think it would still be fine because the space is wide open, lots of light and worth a stop when exploring Lisbon!

The coach museum here is actually better than the one in Vienna, Austria. The coaches are well preserved. You can see the detail of the luxurious. The color is vibrant and shining. It has been in good care. The collection is throughout several kingdoms. The collection range fro 17th century to 19th century. The painting show the art illustration on the side of the coach. I would said the coaches are the Rolls Royce of our current century. The wood carvings to the carriage is beautiful. The engineering behind each coach is well designed. At 17th and 18th century mostly use the leather strap to support the middle coach. When it changes to 19th century, a two bow springs were introduced. I can see the comfort of the design to reduce the rocking of the passenger. The display not just the carriage. It also have some artwork and history of the Portugal kingdom. This museum actually house Royal Riding Hall carriage.

Please close at 17:00 if you don't want people after 17:00 pm!

My God! What a disappointment. Completely HORRIBLE!!! My family was just visiting. We entered the museum and between 5:15 pm and 5:40 pm we had 5 people reminding us every five minutes that we must leave at 6 pm. We didn't even enjoy the museum. Toward the end I told the last employee that it was 17:45 and we are still on time, he replied that the museum closes at 18:00. I said I wouldn't leave because it wasn't 18:00, and he said, "We don't need tourists like you. Stay home!" He yelled a couple times - "FICA EM CASA." The last ticket sells at 17:30 pm and we bought the ticket at 17:13 pm. On my husband's birthday I just wanted to go out with my family and the Portuguese seem to HATE tourists and treat us like we are a nuisance and an inconvenience. This will be my first and last trip to Lisbon! And the Coach Museum should close at 17:00 if you don't want people after that time! You depend on tourism and treat us like garbage! Please close at 17:00 if you don't want people after 17:00 pm or fire your employees and hire decent people who mind their own business until 18:00 and tell them to stop harassing people who have paid for the ticket UNTIL it's the EXACT time to CLOSE and not a minute earlier. Have that much decency!!! HORRIBLE experience... HORRIBLE!

IMO, this place is so much better than the Belem tower. I love the display of different Coaches from each era. They are beautiful. A MUST on anyone's list

We unfortunately did not get to see the Landau of the Regicide coach since it was at another location.

Beautiful piece of Portuguese history to check out!…read more Such a beautiful monastery to check out. You can buy tickets there at the kiosk, online, or through a tour group to skip the line. They have timed entrances and let in at least 800 ppl per time slot. There is a bathroom in upper level and the bottom near the exit. There is a free chapel to check out to the right of the entrance to the monastery. Not a place to miss!

The monastery is an ornate architectural marvel with incredible artworks and a beautiful courtyard that is an incredible testament the building prowess of that time. There are plenty of sights to see within and again the courtyard was the real highlight. There is a majestic sense of history that really surrounds you as you walk through the hallways and grand rooms that adorn this very large building. It is recommended to arrive early as I mentioned, the lines will get very long. The other aspect to be aware of is that people will harass you outside to buy things, it wasn't clear if they were gypsies or locals but it got a little annoying when a bunch of them swarm you and you really have to be on the lookout for your belongings. This place is also within walking distance of various other notable sights near the river so it's a great place to make as the centerpiece of your Lisbon walking tour.

Once inside I was bewildered by the scarcity of the "Art". And it somehow got much worse when I visited the galleries. I'm baffled that there is any cost to this attraction let alone 15 Euros and the cafe was no better. Wish I had read the reviews first. Definitely left completely bummed out. However the persons working the front desk were super kind and helpful and for that, they deserve all the stars.

There is also a nice fluorescent installation right on the river and when we visited recently there was some performance art happening outside. All this is free and open to the public. There are also often vendors selling ice cream etc. To see inside, you pay 15€ per person for non- residents of Portugal, which is ridiculous for what it is, IMO. This museum is interesting from a technology/ architecture perspective and anyone who likes steampunk or industrial art would appreciate it. The exhibit on climate change and the exhibits of the history of the former steam power station and its workings were interesting. However what they are displaying as "art" is beyond subpar in my view. I am a fan of contemporary art also visited the museum of contemporary art which has infinitely superior art. The "art" here was very amateurish at best and disgusting at worst. One exhibit featured gross depictions of overweight old women and traumatic scenes of childbirth. IMO this museum would do better just focusing on science, technology and architecture and just get rid of the so called art. The person who commented below about inappropriate themes is also correct in that we saw depictions of pedophilia in the "art" section of the museum, which was rather disturbing, especially as there were families with small children touring. If you don't mind paying 15€ for the science and architecture aspect of this place it's okay. Skip the "art".
