I started my journey earlier this year and it's been roughly 8 months now and I am extremely happy that I did. The studio, firstly, is very clean and well-maintained. You can see very clearly that the staff puts a lot of care into the space through their facilities and equipment. They enforce a no-shoes policy and recommend shoes off inside, which really makes it feel even cleaner inside. The instructors here are also very welcoming and understanding of each individual. I had a neck injury halfway through the year and had to adjust the way I did some of the workouts and I was not pressured to complete a workout if I felt I couldn't. You will definitely feel supported in every aspect of your workout here as the staff is very accommodating. I have always felt comfortable and safe attending a class even throughout my recovery. I have noticed that my posture, physical health, mental health, and body have gotten 100x better. I feel stronger every day and more confident as the day continues. Doing mat pilates over the years at home, you aren't certain you are performing the moves correctly but after joining this studio I can confidently do mat pilates on the days I can't attend a class. I've since moved further away from this studio and I still make my now 1.5-hour commute to come to this studio. They have many classes throughout the week and their app makes it easy to sign up. I love their class size of 7, though it isn't 1 on 1, you still get a very similar feeling since the class is on the smaller side compared to other studios. Overall, I would 100% recommend this studio to anyone who is looking to strengthen their body inside and out. I've already invited several friends to join me and they have all loved it. Don't forget to bring grip socks though :)!

The teachers are all very effective. I have had classes with Alina, Lien and with Maggie, and was more than pleased with their teaching. I've been going to classes regularly for over 15 months and continuing to get more out of each class. My endurance, flexibility, strength and overall well-being is significantly better now. Recently some Pilates mat classes have been added to the schedule instead of the yoga classes and these are helping me to do the yoga poses better. The breathing and the core development in Pilates are different and complementary to yoga. My teacher Alina shared the purpose and meaning of Pilates method along with the practice of the unique Pilates poses. I appreciate the way she added something that is effective to advance my personal goals for my overall fitness. I love the way I feel after each class.

This is a very weird yoga studio. I had a class last week and it was canceled two hours beforehand…read more I tried to call and it was very hard to get in contact with someone. First off, the website is like a blog and mostly in Chinese and it was very hard to find the number and email. You cannot call as it is text only - and when you do you get an automated message that states that we need to download WeChat. Many people don't have that app. I scheduled the same class again this week and wanted to confirm that the class was still on. I texted the number instead of downloading WeChat and the owner responded back, which I appreciated. But she said they normally cancel the class if they don't have 3 or more people signed up. That is so bizarre I've never heard of that. I've taken many yoga classes and never had that experience- and sometimes I'm the only student in the class and the teacher still shows up. I didn't realize that you had to pay $5 to use their mat or to bring your own mat- however this was my fault - I should have read the email for that information. But again, I've taken many yoga classes throughout the years and never had to pay to use a mat. Another bizarre thing is you need to wait for the instructor in the lobby in order to enter the studio. If you click on the elevator button it will not go up to the "m level" as only the instructor has the key to go up the building. I got there earlier and was confused and kept pressing the elevator button and it was not going up. Luckily, I bumped into the instructor in the lobby. The yoga studio is dark and there are no windows or natural light. It also gets a bit stuffy in there The instructor was nice, but she is clearly new at teaching. There was no flow and the transitions were awkward. It felt like a Pilates class because she kept doing repetitions and would say "do this 10-20 times" and "hold it" On top of that she was doing adjustments on everyone. I am fine with adjustments but she should ask in the beginning of class if people are comfortable to being adjusted and touched. She adjusted one girl and I heard her say "ouch" and was in pain. This is a beginners yoga class and yet she was teaching headstands, one legged pigeon, and camel pose. All the students had difficulty with those poses and the instructor wasn't providing modified or alternative poses which is very dangerous. She didn't put music on until the end of the class- not sure if she had trouble with turning on the music. Lastly, she was looking at her watch/ phone every 10 minutes to see how much time was left and even ended 3 minutes earlier. She realized and decided to add a last minute exercise to fill the remaining time.

The Early Childhood program at the YMCA is one to definitely consider if you have a young child…read more Their 3-K and Pre-K classes help with fundamental learning and questioning of several subjects such as math, science, and reading. With top qualified teachers and aids, lead by the program's Director Lois Rothstein, rest assured that your child will have a rewarding experience at the Y. They create an environment that fosters a love of learning and friendship. Like everything, beginnings can be hard but with 3-K teachers such as Ms. Marieta and Ms. Ruby, children embrace starting school everyday and anticipate the next. Ms. Miri and Ms. Elizabeth reinforce children's curiosity of learning and play in Pre-K through deeper exploration of the various subjects. Adding interactive play elements to engage children's sense of independence, focus and accomplishment. The Early Childhood Program at the YMCA is a hidden treasure in our community. Join the many students and parents that hoped it could continue through 8th grade. I highly recommend this program to all parents with young children.

As a black person, I felt so uncomfortable at this gym that I only went once, ended my membership…read morethe same day and after speaking with the Membership Director, received a full refund for the month that I paid for. I recently moved to Queens and switched my YMCA from Prospect Park to Flushing. This Y is a major downgrade from the Prospect Park location in so many ways. most importantly the staff. I went to the small pool to do water aerobics. I have a mini tripod that attach to my phone and I watch a YouTube video of water aerobics and follow along. I have done this at at lease 3 different gyms, and SEVERAL times at the Prospect Park YMCA with absolutely no issues whatsoever. As soon as I walk in, although there are many swimmers in the pool, the white lifeguard immediately notices me. She is across the room and starts YELLING at me. "There's no phones allowed in the pool That's the Y's policy!" I say "what policy? I didn't have any issues with the Prospect Park Y." She then yells back, "Well this ain't Prospect Park." Then I ask her what the issue is and she ANGRILY yells, "We're not going to be responsible if you mess up your phone." I reply that I wasn't expecting them to be responsible if I damage my phone and that I'll pit it further away from the water. She waves me off. Then she yells to one of the swimmers that inquired about what was going on "Phones aren't allowed! She's on her phone!' I yell, "Well get the manager if it's a problem." She taps the walkie talkie on her hip and cockily replies "Oh, he's coming!" The manager comes in and says "We can't have phones in the pool, it's against our policy." Then escorts me out of the pool. I was humiliated!!! After I got dressed, I asked him to show me where this policy is written. He could not. All he could say was "It's against our policy to have phones in the pool area and the locker rooms" and gave me his manager's card to contact. After contacting his manager, she explained that their policy is that phones aren't allowed in the locker room nor the pool to protect the member's privacy. In my opinion, this could've been handled MUCH better and it would've been if she didn't immediately see me as a Nefarious Negro up to no good. All the life guard needed to do was ask me what I was doing with the phone. Instead she immediately started yelling and got aggressively defensive. Should I have matched her energy, I would've been labeled the angry black woman, the aggressor and I would've probably been banned from the Y. This was an egregious micro aggression that left me extremely embarrassed and made me feel unsafe. I was escorted out like I was some shady black criminal that should've never had access to that space in the first place. To add to this, the gym is filthy. The pool area had crud on it, the locker rooms were also disgusting. It's also very old with the exception of the cardio room that was recently renovated. Parking is also horrible. If you are black, I would avoid this YMCA at all costs. Not only does the staff not know how to communicate policies properly, and it's clear that they themselves are unclear about the policy, but they come off as RACISTS. This location also has very few black members which could be why the lifeguard was so startled that a Negro was in the midst.
