I can't believe this is the first review since they re-opened with the three new owners. Went in on a Wednesday night. They have a TouchTunes internet jukebox turned up to a measured 83 decibels. The lighting is the brightest I've seen in here in the last 30 years. Removed the scuzzy curtains over the windows, and cleaned the windows. Threw out the booths and put in hi top tables. Too bad they didn't re-do the padding on the barstools, which have been there for 60 years. They kept the Formica on the bar, which has the pattern rubbed off due to all the patrons. Too bad they didn't re-align the barstools to the worn out Formica..would have been a cool touch. They still have the old time schooners for the beer. Last weekend my husband and I made the drive down to the Springs to see one of our favorite artists, Adam Hood, perform at Murphy's Tavern. It is a very nice, clean and fun venue that makes you feel like the artist is singing right to you. The staff was very friendly and they always made sure our iced cold beer was full. The best part was the owner and how excited he was that we had made the drive down to see the show. Great little venue/bar and even better people, can not wait to see who they bring in next!!! 10/10 would recommend. read more

Oooooh boy... I think someone I know put it to me this way: Murphy's Tavern is a real alcoholics bar, and upon entering the place, I know what they mean. You would have to be an alcoholic to like this place. Murphy's is the epitome of the dive bar....cramped, over-crowded, way too noisy, and full of obnoxious people. Thought it was a cool spot, until Jade, the new bartender, tried to double charge me for drinks, I mentioned it to their senior staff, that resulted in a permanent ban for me. The other bartenders are freaking awesome though, too bad. I recommend "Robin Hood", down the road. read more

Been going to this Pub for about two months. On New Years Eve, their new bartender misunderstood my giving her cash for a drink, and thought it was all a tip for her, paying for a shitty attitude I suppose. Then she tried to double Charge me, for drinks already paid for, and tried to lie about how much she was given. Made me feel like a jerk, and totally blew the usually welcome vibe. All resulting in a permanent ban for myself. Hire people: 1.Who can actually keep track of money. 2. Doesn't come across like customers are doing them a favor by drinking in the establishment. 3. There is no pretension about Murphy's, it is what it is...a converted gas station turned neighborhood dive bar with a horseshoe shaped bar and bar stools screwed into the floor. It's the type of bar where regulars have been going there for years, the laminate on the bar has rubbed off after years of being wiped down with a bar towel, and generations of neighborhood kids use this as a meetup place for holidays, because Murphy's is always open (Thanksgiving, Christmas...you name it!). Murphy's is cash only, and I have found that if I walk in there with a $20, I leave nice and liquored up! You don't go to Murphy's for good food, or fancy drinks...instead, it's a place to go to meet up with old friends, talk to new friends that are sitting next to you at the bar, and be entertained by the bartenders, or maybe a Journey sing-a-long with the juke box. read more

I grew up in Colo Spgs and Denver. My father worked for the USAF Acad. at Lowery from 56-58. Then we moved to the Spgs in 58 when the new facility was being built. Murphy's Tavern became my father's favorite watering hole for a number of years. I spent many hours there with him! Dustin G's comments are from one not immersed in bar culture from the old days! Obviously MT's ambiance still survives! If you google "Murphy's Tavern Colorado Springs" you will find a link to a Flkr site with some really good photos of the place. Although I haven't been there since maybe 1960 it looks just the same, except I don't think the building to the right of the tavern was there. I think it was a parking lot then. My fondest MT memory is sitting at the bar looking out the open back door at the colorful sun set clouds. Usually the doors and windows were open to let out the smoke and let in the wonderful mountain air. I wonder If they have ever painted it inside. I just remember the horseshoe shaped bar populated by a diverse clientele from guys like my old man wearing a suit to soldiers and airmen and construction workers--and me, with a Shirley Temple! These were hard-working guys, WW2 and Korean War vets, who just wanted to relax a little bit after work and forget the past before venturing out into the unknown future. These guys were evidently not interested in going to the bright and shiny bar at the new Holiday Inn down the road. When we moved to an apt downtown my father took up residence at the Acacia Hotel bar with the great HI Fi juke box and Mariachi band. It was even air-conditioned, and was dark, very dark. But that's another story. Odly enough before moving to CO from Nashville TN my old man's favorite bar here was Brown's Dinner and it too is still almost the same as when I would accompany my father there in 1953--another icon man, another icon. I loved Murphy's. I rolled in with my wife and brother in law for a place to wrap up the night. The reason I like it so much is because I didn't want food, video games, tv, live music, or any of the other things that alot of bars need to have to draw the people in. I was just thirsty and this place follows the golden rule of keeping it simple. The bar tender was perhaps the finest I've ever encountered. He knows three 30 something people rolling in at 11 o'clock are there to just hang out and drink. My glass was never empty. It seemed I would blink and there'd be a fresh beer in front of me. He was also kind enough to indulge us on a few custom shot type drinks and was just an all around nice guy. If you just need a simple setting and a cold drink, give Murphy's a try. read more

Drove into down and hit up this tavern. Read about it a little. Very historic. They kept the original bar stools which add to the character, but are terrible uncomfortable. After one beer, I was ready to go somewhere more comfortable. Cool place to check out, though. read more

It is, what it is..a dive. Sure, put in 10K and it could be cleaner, newer..but then, it is not good old Murpy's anymore. In out days of all being so commercialized and all being chains, it is a good variation, even though it is on the lower end of the scale. What the heck, I have a good time when I go there. read more

This is my favorite bar in the Springs. My brother introduced my husband and I to the Murphy's experience last year. I love how simple it is. There's a sweet and amusing older gentleman running the bar. He took such good care of us. It was refreshing to be in a bar where you could hear your own conversation and escape from any horrifying booty-shakin'. read more

Murphy's is the best bar I have ever been to in my life. I used to drink there almost thirty years ago(underage lol!!!) when I went to UCCS and I rolled in a bit ago and it hasn't changed a bit. If you want real people that are unpretentious and not full of it this is the place to go. No frills just good people who are there to have a good time and bs. Roll in mid to late afternoon after getting a Philly cheesesteak from Trevelli's and it just doesn't get any better. If I were to have a bar of my own it would be just like Murph's. read more
