Just because I give this place three stars doesn't mean it is unworthy of a visit…read more This is a pretty 25 foot water fall that tumbles over the Niagara escarpment onto an accessible river bed. Two small parking lots on both ends of the park give barely ample spots to leave your car for the easy walk to the falls. There is a foot bridge that crosses the top of the falls allowing you to look down on the falls. A major highway is a stone's throw from this bridge. At the other end of the park it a rustic stairway that takes to down to the river bed and gives you a nice view of the falls. Interesting that there are a myriad of padlocks on the stairway steps. This park also includes a statue of Jean Nicolet, who was a French fur trader and made first contact with the local tribes. There is also a historical marker with information about his experience of the local area. This is a nice spot to visit; but you'll share your time there with a lot of people. While this is a pretty spot worth your time to visit, I hesitate to give this place four or five stars. If you give this place five stars, what do you give Big Manitou Falls or Amnicon Falls? Bottom line, this is a pretty spot worth the time to visit. Take the time, there is no such thing as an ugly waterfall.

We started on the trail but quickly lost it and so we headed back after a short hike. But the view of the falls and woods is beautiful so we enjoyed ourselves anyway. I guess we just got our timing wrong. As we got back to the car we found ourselves parked among many trucks with bow hunters. They were friendly and heading deeper into the property but we felt it was time to leave since we did not have any blaze orange on and our dogs were with us. I imagine spring is a better time to visit and I will check further before we visit again. There is no parking or entry fee, but there is a box for donations as you feel are appropriate.

We got to a crowded parking lot, and parked in one of the few empty spots. The walk to to waterfall overlook is easy if not a bit muddy. This is a pretty waterfall about twenty feet high. There are trails that take you around and down to the bottom of the falls. Nice spot to visit and take pictures. There are no restrooms or picnic areas, just the falls. I have to add social commentary here. We met about thirty people walking to and from the falls. The twenty something's walked by with their eyes firmly on the ground. The forty something's looked up and said hello back. The sixty somethings made eye contact, smiled and said a pleasant hello. Generational differences were apparent. Bottom line, this is a very pretty spot for a quick visit. Be respectful of the private property.

Five stars for Fox River Trail!…read more I only come to Green Bay sporadically, to fulfill familial obligations. Going for a run in this trail is always one of the highlights of my visits (aside from being ensconced in the bosom of my family's love). The trail is very accessible from numerous locations. It is extremely well marked so even if you're unfamiliar, you know where you are and you can find your way back to where you started. The trail is wide and has space for runners, walkers, bikers, etc. There are restrooms along the way and plenty of scenic river views. For non-pedestrians, there is a $4 daily pass required, or you can purchase a season pass. It's cold in the winter, no doubt. But in the spring it's outstanding. On a run today I saw birds, squirrels, rabbits and other wildlife. I also saw some cougars and a couple of bears, but those were all of the spandex-clad variety, if you know what I mean! Great trail for enjoying the outdoors and you can go for miles.

I can't believe there is such a neat place so close to downtown. I was in the area and was…read moreintrigued since they mentioned they had wolves at the center, as well as a lot of other rescued animals that are unable to be released back into the wild. When you drive into the park, you immediately notice the amount of Canada goose and mallards swarming the area. There's a huge pond that they call home, and they're also joined by wood ducks, herons, and even a sand hill crane. It turns out that the center sells cracked corn that the birds go crazy for, which leads to a love-hate relationship as they love the corn, but are wary of you as a large animal. There's a nature center which has exhibits geared more towards children, although there's still plenty to learn for adults. There's also animals inside, and several bird feeders right outside. The observation building is where I had the most fun. Outside they have injured raptors, while inside they keep bats, songbirds, and shorebirds. Behind the glass, you can see the volunteers and staff nurturing baby rabbits. The woodland building is home to animals such as rabbits, opossums, skunks, and more. Outside there are foxes, wolves, and deer. I was surprised hear the wolves howling, and it was amazing that I could see them easily from the building. There's a daily program at various times where you can see a up close look at the animals. I went for the Eagles one, where the staff took out Liberty the eagle. She was found with severe visual impairment (likely from West Nile) and so couldn't fly or feed herself that well.

This sanctuary visitors center is full of hands-on exhibits that immerse kids and adults in animal…read morehabitats and fun! While moms and dads will feel this center is straight from their childhood, the exhibits have stood the test of time and continue to delight kids. There are many local species of birds and animals stuffed for up-close observation, and the deck features bird feeders for many close views of birds in action. There are tunnels and hollows to explore, a great underwater habitat exhibit, and an amazing otter slide. We spent an hour in the visitors center and could have stayed longer. It's not all taxidermy though, there are also live animals on exhibit that have been saved by the sanctuary but cannot return to the wild. My kids especially enjoyed the fancy mice. If you have more time, there are 5 different trails to walk or ski apparently. You can also sometimes purchase food to feed the many ducks which was our initial purpose, but avian flu nearby has the experience on hold. I wish we'd come earlier! This was an excellent way to spend a wintry hour while visiting Green Bay with our 4 kids. I hope for a chance to visit in summer and do it all.

The park seemed spacious and had few visitors. There is a nice view of the river, space to roam, and some wildlife to see. Whoever is in charge of the park is taking down some large trees to our dismay. For balance, new trees have been planted which is heartening. Ashwaubomay is a place to explore if you've been to Voyageur Park and thought it was too crowded. After all, they both are on the shores of the same river. If I had my way, there would be more greenery especially between the water treatment facility.

The staff completely yelled at me for making sure my child was safe swimming in the water. They claim that their lifeguards would save a child if they were to drown. But yet, all the Staff, mostly men, were to busy hitting on the few girl lifeguards and sat around sun tanning the entire time, not once did they look toward the water to see if people were safe. And if my kid can't be safe, this place IS NOT SAFE. Second- the cost is crazy! $13.50 for two adults and a 6 yr. old. I would rather drive all the way out to Shawano Lake and would not have spent that much on gas. Third- No coolers allowed. Even the small lunch coolers are not allowed. They would rather you die of heat exhaustion and dehydration. And then charge $2 for a small bottle water at their "store" And last but not least, I personally witnessed a mother allowing her 8 yr. old son to pee in the sand! He came out of the water screaming he had to pee, so his mother told him to lay face down in the sand and pee in the sand. GROSS! DO NOT GO HERE!!!

What an AMAZING botanical garden for kids AND adults!…read more It is sort mapped like a loose maze that you won't get lost in. It really lends a feel of exploring little areas and mini trails. There is a colorful children's area with slides and a shoreline restroom building. There is a large hiking area passing by a small farming area and pond. There is also a Japanese style hilly garden. The ladies checking us in were so friendly and sweet. The gift shop is worth a look. Many things were reasonably priced.

Marilyn's Oasis is a playground that was built on an underutilized parking lot just west of Bay…read moreBeach Amusement Park's Zippin Pippin rollercoaster. It's an all-inclusive playground, which means it's accessible for people of all abilities, which is great. It has a rubberized surface, and has lots of different playground equipment areas for all to enjoy. It's kind of part of the amusement park, but it's totally free and open to the public. This park has three zip lines! It also has musical instruments, wheelchair-accessible ramps up to the jungle gym, slides, swings, a merry-go-round with a zero-depth entry, and lots of other unique features that I had never seen on a playground before. Honestly, I've been to a lot of playgrounds, and this is one of the most inclusive playgrounds I've ever seen! Good job, Green Bay. One thing to note: There are no restrooms or water fountains at this playground. There is lots of parking, though.

Voyageur Park has a nice little playground for all ages…read more There are swings (including two-person swings and swings with harnesses). There's a jungle gym with slides, bridges, mini rock wall and lots of places to climb. (Super neat: The jungle gym has a ramp so people with wheelchairs can access it.) There's a merry-go-round, musical instruments, a pretend pirate ship and lots more. The ground is that soft, rubberized material, and it's all around the playground. There are a few benches around the playground for parents and caregivers, but not a lot of shade. This park is 21 acres, and the playground is steps away from the Fox River and the De Pere Riverwalk and Wildlife Viewing Area. You could spend a lot of time here, between playing at the playground, walking along the trails of the riverwalk and peeping the wildlife living around this area.
