I absolutely love this park. Our coed softball team frequent this park for practices and pick up games. We are always able to get a field and the fields are well kept. The fields for softball were decent. We were here for a tournament on a Saturday and there was plenty of parking. There is no shade of you sit in the stands, but if you bring a pop up, you can easily set it up over the bleachers, plus there's room for your chairs. The one thing that needs improvement is the women's restroom. There were only 3 stalls, so there was always a line. And in spite of a city maintenance vehicle being parked right outside of it, the RR was always dirty, no toilet paper in every stall, no paper towels or dryer, the floors were always wet and there were no seat covers. Plus, it had a tight walking area, so you had to come close to whoever was in line next. read more

Since having my baby, this is the spot I frequent. (Yep, I have come a long wait from nigh clubs and bars.) I now spend my days at parks and "playtime classes." Oh, the joys of motherhood. I spend my Wednesday mornings here with a bunch of 6-9 month olds and their moms. We attend an infant class that offers different play stations for the kids, songs, bubbles, parenting tips and parachute play. Super fun to see your little ones interact with other children. The class is $80 for 3 months or so and we meet up every Wednesday. Totally worth it! This recreation center, offers a bunch of other classes like art, cooking, yoga, martial arts, Italian, etc., all for very reasonable prices. If your not into classes, the park alone is nice. It has picnic benches, gymnasium, basketball courts, baseball diamond, tennis courts, restrooms, barbecues, and small skate park. Parking is free. read more

Great neighborhood park that is underappreciated IMO. This place is clean and as safe as public parks get. Murdy was a favorite of my kids when they were smaller and we still visit it today now that my oldest is a junior high schooler. You see a lot of parents with newborns here. Murdy has a good sized kids' play area, actually two; one for the toddler set and one for the big kids. A large field which is often taken up by soccer matches, a picnic area with bbq pits and a skate park. Basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball diamond. I do wish there were more shady bench spots for parents to sit while watching their kids play--all the benches have been positioned in full sunny spots which is great in winter and hell in summer. During good weather you see the picnic tables taken over by birthday parties--did you know that you can officially rent tables for your party? I think a lot of people just show up and stake out tables without paying, but it's better to have a reservation in case it's a popular birthday weekend. The community center hosts a ton of classes and events; sign up online or at the front desk. In the past we've signed up for Buttons N Bows (cotillion), cardio kickboxing, gymnastics, pee wee basketball and soccer camp. I do believe there's an after school tutoring/ study hall offered, which I intend to look into this Fall. read more

I am always a fan of this park. I have been taking my kids here since they were little and the oldest one is 12. Lots of great memories here. The park has always been a little seedy but appears better since the restorations. There is plenty of room to run and play. Warning... the trees eat kites :) There is an ample playground for kids of all ages as well. Beware of kite eating trees. read more

Dirty, and seedy. My sons have a little sports practice in the afternoon, there is a lot of trash (cigarette packs, eyedrops, wrappers....) There seems to be some homeless people that congregate there. I swear I witnessed a drug deal in the picnic area. The playground is fun, and there seems to be a lot of facilities. I will never purposely bring my kids here to play. Too dirty, too seedy, and I don't feel safe there. read more

Ever since they have started classes and private lessons, the coaches have been taking over the public facility. They have even stoped allowing reservations making it harder for the public uses. read more

This is a review of the tennis courts. A friend of mine didn't want to me write a review for fear that the courts will become more popular. There are 4 courts off of golden west. All 4 courts are similar with the two closest to the park having more shade in general. On Tuesdays and certain other days/times, court 1 and/or 2 is taken up by HB/Tennis Anyone for their lessons. The other courts 3, 4 you can do a first come, first serve for free or pay $4 at least a couple of hours ahead to reserve the courts. I have been to Edison park, what I call marina park (near meadowlark golf course), Bolsa Chica Park, and a couple of other public tennis courts. Murdy Park courts are my favorite of these. Parking is easy/plentiful. The indoor bathrooms (the ones inside of the main building vs the outer ones) are generally clean. The courts are sometimes busy (sort of random times but more so in the evening and early morning). I'm grateful to have the Murdy Park courts not too far from my home and would definitely come often. I didn't give the courts 5 stars unfortunately because I have been tainted by country club tennis courts which are nicer, which is no fault of Murdy Park. read more

went here for a cpr class and had the class in the preschool room. it was clean and organized and the bathrooms were as well. the staff at the front were friendly when i asked a question. plenty of parking. would recommend coming here. read more

Great place to play tennis and basketball. Tennis courts are in good condition and the lights stay on til around 10:15.

I moved across from the park. I was pregnant with our son at the time. I thought it would be perfect to have a park across from us. They have a community center and so far my 1 1/2 year old has had gymnastics, which was fantastic! The gal who ran the class did a wonderful job with the kids and parents. They have a ton of classes to take. I'm really bummed right now because they have most of the park gated off for "refresh" sounds like the changes that are being made won't be for the benefit of children, so that makes me sad. Cute lil park, yes there are homeless here but they dont mess with you. Been coming here for years not too crowded before 4pm...the center is awesome too my child goes to the daycare LOVE IT! the teachers are wonderful and my lil one loves it! read more

My daughter and I live behind the park and my daughter's best friend lives next to the park in order for them to see each other they have to go across the back field entrance. The first time my daughter was screamed at by a bunch of 40 year old woman telling her she wasn't allowed to come home. When I had to drive to pick her up she was crying. I called the supervisor Ray who said he would speak to the team. Now today it happen again my daughter and her friend were trying to come home and they wouldn't allow them to go through. Not even to go in between the middle of the fields. The park is made for children and being apart of this community I find it very upsetting that this is going on. These are 10 year old little girls. What the hell is wrong with you? I am asking someone to please fix this problem because it is getting out of hand. Parks are for children!!! Definitely not child friendly park!!!! Someone needs to explain to their adult softball teams that the park is for children. Please fix this!!! read more

Need a tennis court near the Fountain Valley area? Look no further, and the courts are well maintained and opened late. There is ample parking and every time I've gone, there has been open courts. No need to TLDR, there's not much more to say about these tennis courts. read more

Murdy park is the Best public park in HB. There are many classes classes ranging from baby classes to karate and Ballet. Inside the facility are many rooms labeled A, B , C ,D and so on. Each room has its own unique feature and all rooms are very well sized. The biggest room is the one to the left of the entrance. also there are kitchens in some rooms that can be repurposed as a temporary office which most people do. Outside there is a basketball court and a park. the basketball court is very well sized and could probably hold a game with 30 people. Next to the court is a park, a open grassy field and benches. the benches also have grills. The park is full of children. there is two sub parks, a place for toddlers and another for older children. the open filed next to the park is great for running, throwing balls and playing frisbee. back to inside the facility. There is a waiting room when you first walk in that can hold many people. to the right of the room is a game room that has pool, pong and that game where you play as the little soccer players. You can ask the people at the desk if you need a ball. they would be happy to give you it in return for something like a ID card. you can trade back the ball once your done. They even have basketballs so you can play at the outdoor courts. Now with every review there are some bad things, but not that many. the bathrooms are ok, but not the best. still live able and not that dirty. Well they aren't really dirty. you have to see for yourself. Sometimes the free wifi does not work. Outside of the facility isn't the most attractive. having a lot of leaves and litter in some places. They could try to clean up the area. overall this is a really great park and I do suggest you come here. read more
